2 what does the word liturgy mean??? well samantha, liturgy means "the work of the people" because we do it together. I'd like to know about confession and forgiveness, pastor. ok danny--it's in the beginning of the service because it's so important. every week God is ready to forgive us again for our sins. it's a promise he made. as hard as we try-we always seem to mess up but god will aways forgive us. so take the time to remember the things you did wrong and know that you are forgiven - again and again. listen for : if we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us... 2

The Apostolic Greeting is simply like a "Hi, how ya' doing?" listen for : the grace of our lord jesus christ, the love of god, and the communion of the holy spirit be with you all... and also with you. we want to know about the apostolic greeting-kyrie & prayer of the day. samantha reminds us- Kyrie ˈki(ə)rēˌā (also Kyrie eleison iˈlā-iˌsän; -sən )noun a short repeated invocation (in Greek or in translation) used in many Christian liturgies, esp. at the beginning of the Eucharist or as a response in a litany. ORIGIN from Greek Kurie eleēson Lord, have mercy. we are asking the lord to grant us peace. The prayer of the day always has something to do with the readngs from the Bible for that Sunday. sometimes after the kyrie and before the prayer of the day-we sing a hymn of praise. it's a way to thank god ahead of time for giving us the gift of peace He's promised us. "thanks God" we say- We know you'll keep your promise, we know you'll give us your peace. 3

4 what about the scripture readings? where do they come from? you see brady, the readings come from the bible and we always have a reading from one of the four gospels. that's where we hear jesus himself talking to us or we hear stories about jesus. all the readings fromthe bible help us understand who God is. but then where does the sermon come from, pastor? well timmyit's my job to write the sermon. It is based on the readings for the day. I read them over and over again. I study them. I think and pray about them. I try to make the readings easier to understand. That's what the sermon is all about. no matter where you look in the bible- it's always telling us about god. 4

5 I like all the music and singing, mrs. daniels. let me explain the musical parts of the service hayley... lutherans used to be called the "singing church". the first "hymns" we have in our book of worship are the Psalms. The next group of hymns in our worship book is called "service Music". they are hymns we use at different places in our worship service. but it's the next section we usually think about when we think of hymns. Psalms come from the old testament and means "praises". It comes from a greek word meaning "songs sung to a harp". "It's music that next to the word of God, deserves the highest praise."-martin luther there are hymns for all seasons of the church and for other occasions. every week pastor chooses the hymns to fit in with the day or season. 5

6 allyson wants to know what the creeds are about... why do we say those? creed means "I believe" Lutherans have three creeds. The one we use most often is the Apostles' Creed. can you tell me about the prayers and the sharing of the peace? when we say it together we are pledging what we believe. we pledge allegiance as a christian and as a member of our church family to God. sure zoe, During the prayers, we take time to ask God to help those in need like the sick or homeless. We pray together as a church family. after the prayers we share the peace of Christ with each other. we want to be at peace with one another and with God. 6

7 listen for: And the offertory is when we put money in the plate? We offer with joy and thanksgiving what you have first given us... Yes Hannah- when we give gifts to God they are called offerings. The church uses the money to pay for things like electricity, gas, the candles and wine. Since we work for our money it is like giving a part of ourselves back to the church. Theses are gifts which God has given us first. He never gives us gifts just to keep to ourselves-they are to share. Kara- what do you remember from first communion classes? Communion is a gift from God. the gift of Himself to us in Jesus, is in the bread and wine. Jesus told us to "do this in remembrance of me." our father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. for thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. amen 7
