2 R P G F S : at am, fra Sergio M. Ziliani, the moderator, affirmed that for the first time, the Prior General would present a written report at this type of meeting. In his report (agenda n.6), the Prior General presented some important themes, which were subsequently given sufficient time for discussion. The themes included: Monte Senario, P.T.F. Marianum, Servite International Center for Studies and Holy Land. T, O 13, 2016 At am, the Eucharist was celebrated together with lauds, prepared and animated by the regional conference of Africa, presided by fra Sifiso M. Mchunu ( ), assisted by fra Francis M. Kawuki ( ). The biblical texts of the day were proclaimed: Ep 1, 1-10; Ps 97; Lk 11, During the homily fra Francis M. Kawuki invited all to note the attitude of Jesus in the Gospel towards the religious authorities the Scribes and Pharisees. Instead of understanding the criticism and attitude of Jesus, the scribes and Pharisees began to act with hostility toward him [Jesus] and to interrogate him about many things, for they were plotting to catch him at something he might say (Lk 11, 54). Fra Francis M. Kawuki noted that Jesus is addressing these things to us, who are in leadership in the Order. We are invited to listen to the invitation and criticism of Jesus to understand the will of God and to fulfill it faithfully. We are also invited to live what we preach, to be authentic and humble witnesses of Christ. M D M. T ( ) Fra Lino M. Pacchin informed the assembly of a Study Congress to be held on the occasion of the celebration of fra David M. Turoldo s birth Centennial (22 November ). G C G C S S : at 2.30 pm, fra Souriraj M. Arulananda Samy, the moderator of the session, introduced the theme: General Curia and General Communities (Agenda, n. 7-10), to be examined by the assembly. The theme P.T.F. Marianum (agenda, n. 7 [cf. CG 2013, n. 8]) had already been discussed in depth following the report of the Prior General. N, M L Fra Piergiorgio M. Mazzoleni presented the theme (Agenda, n. 8): New building, Marianum Library. He briefly summarized the history of the project, from its genesis to its culmination in the inauguration of the new Auditorium. It will take place on October 26, 2016, with the presence of the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin. C P OSM R The Prior General presented the theme: Commission on Presences of the friars OSM in Rome (Agenda, n.9), indicating the reasons that motivated the General Council to institute the commission. He introduced the members of the commission: the Prior General (president), one of the General Councilors,Sergio M. Ziliani, (member and Vicar of the Prior General, responsible as acting president in the absence of PG), the Priors Provincial of (Paolo Orlandini) and (P A ), the general treasurer (Piergiorgio M. Mazzoleni) G C and a representative of the financial council of the Order (Stefano M. Viliani). This commission will have its first meeting on November 30, C R C At 4.30 pm, fra Souriraj M. Arulananda Samy, the moderator of the session, invited fra Sergio M. Ziliani to present the arguments on the Commission Renewal of the Constitutions (Agenda, n. 10). Fra Sergio M. Ziliani offered the following information: 2

3 a) Mandate of the General Council: To verify with all the friars of the Order any needed updates of the Constitutions. To integrate the four sections of the Constitutions (community life, apostolic service, formation and governance). If possible, to insert additional spiritual and theological elements. b) The commission organizes its work: 1. From the mandate of the General Council. 2. From the work of the commission constituted in the previous six years' term: response of the friars, reflection of the commission, various other materials. 3.Suggestions of the members of the commission and any other suggestions from this assembly. c) Members of the commission are: Sergio M. Ziliani ( ) (president), František (Fero) M. Bachorík ( ), Eugene M. Smith ( ), Camille M. Jacques ( ), Lucas M. Michael ( ), Benito M. Isip II ( ), Tadeo M. Byomuhangi ( ) and Oldair José M. Gonçalves ( ). The commission will have its meeting on November 21-26, 2016 in Rome. V At 4.40 pm, Fra Hubert M. Moons, the moderator of the session, introduced the theme of Vocation promotion and initial formation (Agenda, nn ). Vocation promotion in the Order: the participants spoke about their respective present situations and about their common orientations for the future (Agenda, n. 11). Fra Jorge Luis M. Jiménez Delgadillo, general coordinator of vocation promotion, presented a video ( and informed the assembly about the available materials on the Order s website. Porteous informed the friars about his departure in the late evening, in order to be with his mother, who is suffering ill health. We wish and pray for his safe return journey to Australia and for his mother s good health and speedy recovery. At 6.00 pm, we prayed vespers, prepared and animated by the regional conference of Africa, guided by fra Francis M. Kawuki ( ). In the evening, two regional conferences met. CASA and AFRICA did not elect their respective coordinators at this time, while the EUROPEAN Conference elected, as its new coordinator, fra Paolo M. Orlandini ( ). Peter M. Porteous F, O 14, Paolo M. Orlandini At 7.00 am, the Eucharist was celebrated together with lauds, prepared and animated by the regional conference of Asia and Oceania (CASA), presided by fra Rubén M. Bello Enríquez ( ), assisted by friars Deogracias Jr. M. Alejandria ( ) and Alvin M. Cabacang ( ). The proclaimed biblical texts are: Ep 1, 11-14; Ps 32; Lk 12, 1-7. Fra Deogracias Jr. M. Alejandria, in his homily, insisted on the importance of formation. Following the footsteps of our Master, Jesus, who invited his disciples to himself, in order to form them before being sent out in mission to witness to the Gospel we who are invited to be in the service of leadership in the Order need to be vigilant of the formation of friars who are called to be part of our Order, so that all might witness the Gospel, and be faithful and good servants in the Church and in the society. S S : at 8.45 am, continued the reflection on the theme of vocation promotion. F O The following themes were taken into discussion: Formation in the Order: sharing about the different present situations and common orientations (Agenda, n. 12); preparation of formators (Agenda, n.13). Fra Hubert M. Moons, the moderator, invited the assembly to continue discussion on the proposed theme of fra John M. Fontana, that is, Common schema for the formator s report. I 2017 Fra Jorge Luis M. Jiménez Delgadillo, General Secretary for initial formation and Regent of studies, presented the theme of the International meeting of formators in 2017 (Agenda, n. 14), indicating the essential elements: The meeting will be held at Aquamarina Beach Hotel in Cancún, Mexico on March 27-31, The following programme is foreseen: two days of personal, spiritual and psychosocial formation of the Masters guided by Rodolfo Jiménez Delgadillo; a day of archeological visits; and two days of sharing and reflection on the formation experience of the participants.

4 N O (E, A, A, A ) E S : at 2.30 pm, fra Hubert M. Moons, the moderator, invited fra Rhett M. Sarabia to present the theme: Novitiates in the Order (Europe, Africa, Asia, America): Current reality and orientations for the future (Agenda, n. 15). Fra Rhett M. proposed 5 elements for reflection: 1. Statistics on the entrance into novitiate in the last years; 2. Who are the novices? Who are those who enter the Order? 3. Who are the formators? Who are those who accompany the novices? 4. What are the materials (texts for history and spirituality ) that we use for formation? 5. What has been our experience of common novitiates? C O At 3.40 pm, fra Rhett M. Sarabia, presented the following points of the Agenda: Centres of study in the Order: Rome, Manila, Bangalore, Uganda, Lima, Sao Paulo, Guadalajara, Chicago, Québec, Innsbruck (Agenda, n. 16) and Projects Studying in a northern jurisdiction in view of future service (USA, CAN, VEN, TIR): Experiences, challenges, common orientations,... (Agenda, n.17). Following the presentation, the assembly reflected on, and discussed its experiences on the themes. C At 4.45 pm, Fra Jorge Luis M. Jiménez Delgadillo, the moderator, invited fra Souriraj M. Arulananda Samy, to introduce the theme Elderly and sick friars in the Order: orientations, care and appreciation (Agenda, n. 18). Fra Souriraj presented statistical details on the present ages of friars in the Order, according to the jurisdictions. The assembly appreciated and shared the importance of the presence and life of the aged and sickly friars in various community and jurisdictions. Alejandria ( ) on behalf of the regional conference of Asia Oceania (CASA). R C At 7.30 pm, the Regional Conference of and had their meeting to elect their respective coordinators. Fra John M. Fontana ( ) was elected as coordinator of, while fra Rinaldo M. Stecanela ( ) is elected for. 4

5 S, O 15, 2016 At 7.00 am, the Eucharist was celebrated with lauds, prepared and animated by the European Regional Conference. It is presided over by fra Paolo M. Orlandini ( ), the newly elected coordinator, who was assisted by friars Sergio M. Ziliani ( ), Silvo M. Bachorík ( ), and Lino M. Pacchin ( ). The proclaimed biblical texts of the day were: Ep 1, 15-30; Ps 8; Lk 12, Fra Paolo M. Orlandini, in his homily, solicited all to accept the invitation of Christ to be open to the mystery and to believe in the Holy Spirit: do not worry... about what you are to say. For the holy Spirit will teach you at that moment what you should say (Lk 12, 12). N S : at 8.45 am, fra Sergio M. Ziliani, the moderator of the sessions of the day, invited the Prior General to announce the modified Agenda and to share other practical information regarding the implementation of the day's work. S O (Agenda, nn ) Fra Jorge Luis M. Jiménez Delgadillo introduced the topic Friars from Southern jurisdictions (PHI, IND, MOZ, SWA, ZUL, EAF, MEX) who render a service in Northern jurisdictions (VEN, PRF, ANN, ESP, ISL, USA, CAN): experiences, challenges, common orientations... (Agenda, n. 19) and invited the assembly to share their experiences in the different jurisdictions. P P G Fra John M. Fontana presented a question affirming that at present the Prior General s consent is needed to transfer any economical contribution from any of the Servite jurisdictions to another; in relation to this he asked, is it not possible to follow the same modality for the distribution of friars in different Servite jurisdictions? There was an open and lively sharing in the assembly on the topic, which highlighted differing opinions. S F, S A, R, Fra Gottfried M. Wolff introduced the theme of Scholarship Funds, Saint Alexis, Rome for the academic year (Agenda, n. 22), asking the General treasurer to present a detailed report on this regard. According to the General Council s opinion, 7 scholarships are needed: 3 /, 2, 2. The friars in leadership of the following jurisdictions were asked, and accepted the responsibility of offering needed scholarships to our students at Saint Alexis, Rome: (2), (1), (1), (1), (1), (the Prior provincial will consult with the Australian Delegate - absent at this point - regarding the delegation's continuing availability to contribute as well). The Prior General expressed his appreciation and thanked the donors for their gestures of generous fraternity. T S : at 2-30 pm, fra Gottfried M. Wolff introduced the following topics and invited the assembly to continue discussion of the various themes: Financial reports in the Order (PHI-PRF/ISL/USA, IND-VEN/TIR, Indonesia-MEX/ USA/CAN, EAF-VEN/ISL/TIR, Mozambique-BRA/ESP, ZUL-USA/ISL, SWA/ANN): perspectives and orientations for the future (Agenda, n. 22). New foundations (presently: Indonesia, Myanmar, Mozambique, and future: Vietnam): current reality and financial perspectives for the future (Agenda, n. 24). Merrivale, South Africa: current situation regarding its projected sale (Agenda, n. 24). I G F O The moderator, fra Sergio M. Ziliani, invited fra Piergiorgio M. Mazzoleni, the General treasurer, to present the report (Agenda, n. 26), Increasing the General Fund of the Order (cf. Dir. gen. 40). N C / N G D Fra Gottfried M. Wolff asked fra Hubert M. Moons, to highlight some of the points in his written report on the theme: the New Constitutions: presentation of the changes (Agenda, n. 28). N O Fra Souriraj M. Arulananda Samy, the General Secretary for the Centre of Communication, presented the new website of the Order: 5

6 G At the end of the work (meeting), the Prior General thanked, from the bottom of his heart, the Prior Provincial of Brazil, fra Charlie M. Leitão de Souza, for extending his fraternity in the organization of this international meeting, and in the celebration of Brazil's day of cultural and spiritual importance, the solemnity of Nossa Senhora da Conceição Aparecida, patroness of Brazil. The Prior General also thanked fra Oldair José M. Gonçalves, the treasurer of the province, for his total commitment, for his availability to serve, and for the smooth running of the scheduled programs. The Prior General also extended a word of appreciation and gratitude to fra J. Alvin M. Cabacang for his service as a translator for all the sessions of the meeting. At the end, fra Gottfried M. Wolff thanked every friar in the service of leadership in different jurisdictions, and the friars on the General Council, for their collaboration in the success of the meeting. fra Charlie fra Alvin fra Oldair C C R N Fra Souriraj M.
