2 Page 2 HEARTS ON FIRE at Sacred Heart Where Faith is Known, Lived, & Shared I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing. (Luke 12:49) As you read the Archbishop s letter, based on Synod 16, ask yourselves, What is the Holy Spirit saying to me? LISTEN to the Archbishop: GUIDEPOST 5 - NO BYSTANDERS: Marker 5.1: The Laity The special calling and privilege of the lay faithful is to bring Christ into the secular world. Since the laity, in accordance with their state of life, live in the midst of the world and its concerns, they are called by God to exercise their apostolate in the world like leaven, with the ardor of the spirit of Christ. Their role is to transform every aspect of the culture through the Gospel family life, education, government, business, the media, entertainment, sports, science, the arts. They do so both by engaging in temporal affairs and ordering them according to the plan of God and by revealing Christ by word to those around them. UNLEASH THE GOSPEL, pg 33 PRAY: Tear or cut off this prayer and keep it where you ll remember to pray it throughout the week Come, Holy Spirit, to the lay faithful at Sacred Heart Church. Give us strength and courage to bring Christ into the secular world. Lead us into transforming through the Gospel every aspect of our particular sphere of influence in our culture. Reveal to us how to engage and order these temporal affairs according to the plan of God and to reveal Christ by word to those around us. Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Amen ACT: What is this letter saying to you? Do you hear God s special calling to YOU? Consider what are your primary spheres of influence in your life family, work, sports, etc. How might you engage them and order them to the plan of God? Try using Jesus or God in a conversation this week. To read the entire letter, Unleash the Gospel go to unleashethegospel.org Notice Senior Moments Luncheon will be canceled for April due to Holy Thursday observances. Are you looking for some new means to draw closer to the Lord? A new way to love the Lord your God and neighbor as yourself? St. Vincent depaul Society can help you in all of these ways by helping our neighbors in need within the parish boundaries. You may be asking, What skill sets do I need to be a Vincentian? The answer is simple, only one: the desire to help those in need. What does a Vincentian do? They go to client s homes in pairs, and conduct interviews using a standard form to attempt to understand what that family may need. Then they report back to other Vincentians at a bi-monthly meetings and try to determine the best path forward for that family. The rewards of this service are infinite. As Jesus tells us whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve. If you have questions please call Mary Alice Merlo at Thank you to all those who generously provide food for the St. Vincent de Paul Easter Food Drive. The food you provide will help give the Easter Hope to those who live to day wondering how they will pay there next bill or provide their next meal. If you forgot to bring your food in today please bring it next week because our pantry will be completely empty and we can use it to restock for future clients in need of a meal. Sunday at noon, we will be packing the food that everyone has so graciously provided. If you would like to help please come over to the social hall at noon. If you have any questions please call Mary Alice Merlo at St Vincent DePaul Hope Warming Center A special thanks to everyone who helped with this year s outreach to the homeless in Pontiac. Thanks to those who donated their time with intaking clients, monitoring the showers, and preparing/serving food. Thanks to all who provided food for us to prepare. We served over 300 meals to approximately 60 people each of our 4 nights and the Center. A special Thanks to Bill and Cecile Brown who have coordinated this for Sacred Heart for many years. Their dedica on and service has enabled Sacred Heart to facilitate taking care of those in such great need. Christian Service Commission
