Priesthood Sunday Do we like it when someone appreciates us when we do something for them? How do we feel when someone doesn t say thank you? The priests here work hard for us, so this is one way we can say thank you. Priesthood Sunday is the last Sunday in October. This year it is October 31th. Do one or more of the following: Write a little note like: 1) Thanks for all you do. 2) We appreciate your hard work. 3) You are a great guy 4) Thanks! Write something specific that you like about them:. Draw a little picture, for example A little cross A smiley face. A heart Make sure to sign your name!!!

Saints Let's look up the Saints that have our first name.
Key Words/Phrases 1) Temptation 2) Prayer 3) Meditation 4) Contemplation
What is Prayer?
What is Prayer? Communicating with God. A raising of the heart and mind to God. A response of the heart Longing for God. A laying down of our needs before God.
What are some types of prayer? Adoration Blessing Thanksgiving Petition Intercession Praise As Catholics we prayer both privately and as a community: in our rooms alone and in Church or Class.
What are some challenges in prayer?
What are some challenges in prayer? Temptation to sin Being too busy/stressed Needing some time to chill Not finding your style (i.e., a type or form you like and are comfortable with) Others
What are some things we can do to respond?
What are some things we can do to respond? Finding a specific time and a place reserved for prayer Having a supportive community family, friends and Church. Finding someone/something to pray for. Inviting God to help you pray. Affirming the fact that praying can be difficult at times. Others..
Mary as an example of prayer Believing the Angel (Luke 1:26-38) Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word." Magnificat (Luke 1:46-55) My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior... Holding things in her heart (Luke 2:51) He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them; and his mother kept all these things in her heart.
Pictures of Jesus Avoiding Temptation and Praying
Jesus as an example of prayer Temptation in the Desert After fasting for 40 days/nights Devil tempts him in 3 ways. Jesus response is toward God. Going off to a quiet place to pray Luke 5:16, 6:12, 9:28, Matthew 14:23, Mark 6:46. When disciples ask Jesus how to pray, he give them the Our Father. (Luke 11:1, Matthew 6:9) Garden of Gethsemane Prayer for cup to pass, but Your will, not my will be done
Meditation From the root word media - something that appeals to the senses. Reading Listening to someone speak Using images We also need to quiet ourselves down and listen to God. We try to do something with our prayer, for example doing something kind for someone.
An Example of Meditation Matthew 19:13-15: Then children were brought to Jesus that he might bless them and pray. The disciples rebuked them, but Jesus said, "Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." After he placed his hands on them in blessing, he went away.
Contemplation Prayer without images, words or thoughts. It is a resting in God s loving presence. Quiet Time alone with God. A self-emptying love of God Forgetting our wants and needs, and being present to God. If something distracts you in prayer you should Note and Let Go.
Sign of the Cross. Hail Mary. Glory Be. Our Father. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
