3 THE LITURGY OF THE WORD FIRST READING Isaiah 60:1-6 RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm 72 Cantor, then All: Owen Alstott SECOND READING Ephesians 3:2-3a, 5-6 ALLELUIA Murray GOSPEL & HOMILY Matthew 2:1-12 CREED I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
4 (all bow through and became man ) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. 7 As we begin the New Year 2016, there are a number of important transitions and events that lay before our Cathedral Family. First, we are in the process of hiring a part-time Coordinator of Religious Education. The number of families in our parish with children continues to grow, and we currently do not have any program for children after sacramental preparation and before junior high youth group. Our catechists and youth volunteers do an outstanding job. That is without question. However, we have come to the point of needing a paid staff person to coordinate the overall approach to comprehensive faith formation under my direction as pastor. I have formed a small committee of parents to assist me in this effort and hope to have someone in place very soon. The experiment with using the Parking West garage turns out to be not as successful as we had originally hoped. In short, it is costing the parish $15,000 per year with an average of 35 cars using the garage over the course of an entire weekend. After consultation with the Parish Pastoral Council and the Parish Finance Council, it has been determined to discontinue the parking option. As of today, your Parking West parking passes are no longer valid. Part of our Cathedral Culture has always been enduring the parking sacrifices involved in attending Mass in a crowded downtown core. It looks like that culture will continue. On a brighter note, we intend on diverting the parking expense to help us offset the costs involved in hiring a new Coordinator of Religious Education. The first two phases of the Cathedral Campaign for a Second Century are finished. We are now in the process of preparing to enter the third phase which will consist of removing the cloud over the altar. This will also necessarily involve addressing issues of sound and lighting. We need to take the next several months to allow parishioners to continue to fulfill pledges (I myself still owe $1,000 on my pledge) so that we have enough funds to begin this third phase. What we do to the sanctuary has the potential to inspire the faithful for generations to come and so we will be very careful and deliberate as we move forward. Please be prepared for slow but steady progress and I will keep you fully informed as we move ahead. As you are aware, Robert Carr begins his officer candidate program with the United States Navy this week. As he has moved on, we have pieced together temporary leadership with regard to directing our Cathedral Choir. Our next step is to form a committee and conduct an national search for a new Director of Music. This is an incredibly important leadership role for both our parish and diocese and so I want to take the time necessary to make sure we have the right person for the job. Please watch the bulletin for updates on our progress. Finally, 2015 was a very difficult year for me personally. Never in a million years did I expect to be diagnosed with cancer in fact, there are still days when I wonder if all of this is real. Although I continue my chemotherapy protocol for the next three months, I believe that the hardest part is behind me. I look forward to this summer when, God willing, I can get back up to speed and live my priestly life to the fullest once again. May the New Year 2016 hold many blessings and much hope for all of us! Asking for the prayers of Our Lady of Lourdes, I remain, Sincerely yours in Christ, Rev. Darrin Connall Rector 7

Frequently they bring a new evangelizing fervor and a new capacity for dialogue with the world whereby the Church is renewed. - (Evangelii Gaudium, 29) Pro-Life Ministry Bible Quote When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. - Psalm 139:15b-16 The three wise men who came from the East to pay homage to the infant Jesus brought Him rich gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh as part of their worship. What gifts have I brought to this celebration to offer to the newborn Savior? Cathedral Altar Society The January envelope packet contains a purple envelope that is your opportunity to support and join the Cathedral Altar Society. This is the Cathedral s oldest, continuing organization and it sponsors community building events, fundraisers, and opportunities for spiritual growth. Everyone may join and help with the organized events of the Altar Society or you may simply support the Altar Society with your membership envelope and receive the benefits of having a monthly Mass that is celebrated for the members on meeting days.
