2 About Choral Evensong Evensong is part Daily Office, along with Morning Prayer (said here daily). The Daily Office is derived from regular services monastic communities in early Church. The first part (which is quite brief) prepares worshipper for sry which is follow.the second part is narrative God s redeeming work, beginning in Old Testament ( Psalms First Lesson), proceeding New Testament (Magnificat Nunc Dimittis Second Lesson), reaching its climax in Affirmation Faith ( Creed). The third part is response a God revealed in hisry, in es Christ, in Church. Evensong is a fragment worship which is fered God by Christian people every h 24 in every part world. O God, make speed save : O Lord, make haste help. Glory be Far, Son, Holy Ghost: As it was in beginning, is now ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Praise ye Lord. The Lord s Name be praised. The people may be seated for Psalm. Psalm 34 Benedicam Dominum setting: ohn Harper (b. 1947) I will bless LORD at all times; his praise shall ever be in my mouth. I will glory in LORD; let humble hear reoice. Proclaim with me greatness LORD; let exalt his Name ger. I sought LORD, he answered me delivered me out all my terror. Look upon him be radiant, let not y faces be ashamed. I called in my affliction LORD heard me saved me from all my troubles. The angel LORD encompasses those who fear him, he will deliver m. Taste see that LORD is good; happy are y who trt in him! Fear LORD, you that are his saints, for those who fear him lack nothing. The young lions lack suffer hunger, but those who seek LORD lack nothing that is good. Come, children, listen me; I will teach you fear LORD. Who among you loves life desires long life enoy prosperity? Keep y ngue from evil-speaking y lips from lying words. 4

5 Turn from evil do good; seek peace pursue it. The eyes LORD are upon righteo, his ears are open ir cry. The face LORD is against those who do evil, root out remembrance m from earth. The righteo cry, LORD hears m delivers m from all ir troubles. The LORD is near brokenhearted will save those whose spirits are crhed. Many are troubles righteo, but LORD will deliver him out m all. He will keep safe all his bones; not one m shall be broken. Evil shall slay wicked, those who hate righteo will be punished. The LORD ransoms life his servants, none will be punished who trt in him. The First Lesson Genesis 44:1-7 Then he commed steward his hoe, Fill men s sacks with food, as much as y can carry, put each man s money in p his sack. Put my cup, silver cup, in p sack youngest, with his money for grain. And he did as oseph ld him. As soon as morning was light, men were sent away with ir donkeys. When y had gone only a short distance from city, oseph said his steward, Go, follow after men; when you overtake m, say m, Why have you returned evil for good? Why have you slen my silver cup? Is it not from this that my lord drinks? Does he not indeed e it for divination? You have done wrong in doing this. When he overok m, he repeated se words m. They said him, Why does my lord speak such words as se? Far be it from y servants that y should do such a thing! Lecr Here endeth Lesson. 5

6 The people st. setting:. Harper My soul doth magnify Lord, my spirit hath reoiced in God my Savior. For he hath regarded lowliness his hmaiden. For behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath magnified me, holy is his Name. And his mercy is on m that fear him throughout all generations. He hath showed strength with his arm; he hath scattered proud in imagination ir hearts. He hath put down mighty from ir seat, hath exalted humble meek. He hath filled hungry with good things, rich he hath sent empty away. He remembering his mercy hath holpen his servant Israel, as he promised forefars, Abraham his seed for ever. Glory be Far, Son, Holy Ghost: As it was in beginning, is now, ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Magnificat The people sit. The Second Lesson Romans 8:1-10 There is refore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ es. For law Spirit life in Christ es has set you free from law sin death. For God has done what law, weakened by flesh, could not do: by sending his own Son in likeness sinful flesh, deal with sin, he condemned sin in flesh, so that t requirement law might be fulfilled in, who walk not according flesh but according Spirit. For those who live according flesh set ir minds on things flesh, but those who live according Spirit set ir minds on things Spirit. To set mind on flesh is death, but set mind on Spirit is life peace. For this reason mind that is set on flesh is hostile God; it does not submit God s law indeed it cannot, those who are in flesh cannot please God. But you are not in flesh; you are in Spirit, since Spirit God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have Spirit Christ does not belong him. 6

7 But if Christ is in you, though body is dead becae sin, Spirit is life becae righteoness. Lecr The people st. Nunc Dimittis Here endeth Lesson. Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according thy word; For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, which thou hast prepared before face all people, To be a light lighten Gentiles, be glory thy people Israel. Glory be Far, Son, Holy Ghost: As it was in beginning, is now, ever shall be, world without end. Amen. The people remain sting.
