The partnership is focused on extending Native American Natural Foods national momentum with the Tanka line of 100 percent buffalocranberry bars, bites, sticks and hot dogs. The IGNITE team will manage the business development and sales processes for all Tanka products. Mark Tilsen, president and cofounder of Native American Natural Foods, who has been managing the Tanka brand s growth since the line s launch in 2008, said the addition of the IGNITE team comes at a crucial time in the company s development. When we launched at Natural Products Expo West four years ago, we had no brokers, no distributors and no retailers. We were a small reservation-based Native American company with a big mission, Tilsen said. Today is a different day. We are now working with our brokers at Natural Specialty Sales, our distributors -- UNFI, Tree of Life, KeHE and Nature s Best -- and more than 4,000 retailers to bring Tanka products to every natural food consumer. It s time to bring in a sales management team with the experience to help the Tanka brand reach its full potential. Spurred by social media and grassroots outreach, Tanka sales have been growing at a rate of about 273 percent annually. Also embraced by a number of niche consumer communities, including gluten-free consumers and outdoor enthusiasts, the Tanka Bar Spicy Pepper Blend was awarded the 2010 Editors' Choice Award from Backpacker magazine. This award led to an explosion in the number of retailers carrying Tanka products, including a national rollout to outdoor retailer giant REI.
