Jung Foundation of New York is proud to sponsor a unique educational tour of India from January 6th to 20th, This trip will provide participants with an opportunity to see India through the lens of analytical psychology, tracing the steps of C.G. Jung on his journey in the 1930's. It will allow tour members to perceive something of the archetypal depths of life and psyche which Indians knew and expressed in their myth and art, and to understand how the experience and expression of these archetypal dimensions greatly influenced culture and civilization. We are honored to have as our tour leader Dr. Ashok Bedi. Ashok Bedi, M.D., is a psychiatrist and Jungian analyst. Educated and trained in India, Great Britain, and the U.S., he is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists of Great Britain, Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association; clinical professor of psychiatry at the Medical College of Wisconsin; and a senior member of the Milwaukee Psychiatric Physicians. He is presently helping several psychiatric groups in India establish the "India Jung Center" in affiliation with the International Association for Analytical Psychology. The educational focus of the tour will be on the role of myth in psychology as a living experience as well as on the mythology, psychology, art and architecture of India. Throughout the trip there will be group meetings and scheduled times to discuss and assimilate these experiences. The itinerary has been planned to allow time at the close of the journey to relax and explore New Delhi. Please note that the size of the group will be limited. It is important, therefore, that you register early in order to secure space for yourself and your friends. We will be pleased to have you join us for this special educational venture." Itinerary January 6-7, 2006 US -Mumbai Depart USA Arrive Mumbai late evening on second day You will be met on arrival by our representative at the International Airport and transferred to your hotel. 2 January 8, 2006 Mumbai You will be free this morning after breakfast. Time at leisure to relax before proceeding on a post lunch excursion to the famed Elephanta Caves, a magnificent Island, an hour s launch ride away from Gateway of India, famous for its caves and various Shiva statutes from the Mauryan dynasty. The entire cave temple complex covers an area of about square feet and it consists a main chamber and two lateral ones, courtyards and several subsidiary shrines. Above the temple is the mass of natural rock. Return to Hotel for dinner January 9, 2006 Mumbai Aurangabad After breakfast and checkout leave for a highlight tour of Mumbai. Visit DHOBHI GHAT a Mega laundry site, built in the British era, where once thousands and thousands of clothes were washed everyday by scores of washer men and women. Today, you will find heavily scaled down activities at the Ghat. Visit the Church gate Railway Station of Lower Parel to see the sorting of the TIFFIN BOXES by the Dabbawalas, who carry lunch boxes from homes to be delivered to people at their work place. Drive past tour of Marine Drive, Chowpatty Beach, Malabar Hill, and Haji Ali Mosque. Lunch at the Khyber Restaurant in town. Departure transfer to Airport tofly to Aurangabad. Transfer to Hotel Taj Residency. Dinner and overnight at hotel. January 10, 2006 Aurangabad - Ajanta Caves - Auarangabad After breakfast visit the Ajanta Caves Ajanta Caves The world famous rock-hewn caves of Ajanta are 100 Kms from Aurangabad. These 30 caves, arranged in the shape of a mammoth horseshoe date back to the 2nd century B.C. Discovered in 1819, by a group of British army officers, these fabulous temples took around 600 years to create. Carved with little more than a hammer and chisel, Ajanta, once the retreat of Buddhist monastic orders features several 'chaityas' (chapels) and 'viharas' (monasteries). The exquisite wall and ceiling paintings, panels and sculptures of Buddha's life are renowned worldwide for being the earliest and finest examples of Buddhist pictorial art. Lunch at Ajanta. Return to Aurangabad for dinner and overnight at hotel. January 11, 2006 Aurangabad - Ellora - Delhi. After breakfast excursion to the Ellora Shrines Ellora Shrines Ellora, with its uninterrupted sequence of monuments dating from A.D. 600 to 1000, brings the civilization of ancient India to life. Not only is the Ellora complex a unique artistic creation and a technological exploit but also, with its sanctuaries devoted to Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism, it illustrates the spirit of tolerance that was characteristic of ancient India. January 12, 2006 Delhi - Agra. After breakfast drive to Agra and check into the hotel Taj View Hotel Mughal City has, in addition to the legendary Taj, many monuments that epitomize the high po Mughal architecture. In the Mughal period, in the 16th and 17th centuries, Agra was the capital India. It was here that the founder of the dynasty, Babar, laid out the first formal Persian garden the banks of the river Yamuna. Here, Akbar, his grandson raised the towering ramparts of the g Red Fort. Within its walls, Jehangir built rose-red palaces, courts and gardens, and Shahajaha embellished it with marble mosques, palaces and pavilions of gem-inlaid white marble. Afternoon visit of Agra Fort and Taj Mahal. Dinner at hotel January 13, 2006 Agra - Delhi After breakfast leave for a morning excursion to Fatehpur Sikri. Lunch at Bharatpur. Afternoon drive back to Delhi. On arrival check into the Uppal s Orchid HotelDinner and Overnight at hotel January 14, 2005 Delhi Varansi After breakfast at the hotel, fly from Delhi to Varanasi. On arrival transfer to the Taj Ganges Hotel Afternoon excursion to Samath, only 10 km away from Varansi, where the Buddha first preached his message of enlightenment, 25 centuries ago. Excursion to Sarnath includes the visit of the Stupa and the excavated sites. Return back to Varansi for dinner at the hotel. January 14, 2006 Delhi - Varanasi. After breakfast at the hotel, fly from Delhi to Varanasi. On arrival transfer to the Taj Ganges Hotel Afternoon excursion to Sarnath, only 10 km away fromvaranasi, where the Buddha first preached his message of enlightenment, 25 centuries ago.excursion to Sarnath includes the visit of the Stupaand the excavated sites. Return back to Varanasi for dinner at the hotel. January 15, 2006 Varanasi Early morning wakeup with tea and coffee at the hotel. Pilgrims from all over India come to this city of redemption to wash away their sins or to immersashes of their ancestors in the sacred Ganges. We watch these ancient rituals on our dawn boat ride as the sun rises over the Ganges.Return to hotel for breakfast. Continue with sightseeing of the Vishwanath Temple at the Benares Hindu University. Afternoon at leisure.towards sunset transfer to the Ghats to witness evening Ritual, Aarti Ceremony. Special VegeDinner at the Amritrao Peshwa Haveli, on the banks of the Ganges with a cultural program of classical dances. Dinner and Overnight in Varanasi. The air we breathe is full of fragrances of the past, as also the fresh and piercing winds of the present. This country capital of India stands to represent a perfect blend of tradition and modernity. It s no fairytale city, but a city where dreams get converted to reality. Delhi offers vast cultural distinctiveness within its boundary. The hub of the metropolis is Central New Delhi, which presents a picture of the orderly, planned city capital established by the British. Old Delhi however is quintessentially Indian, with a warren of cluttered houses, traditional lifestyles and ageold monuments such as the Purana Qila and Red Fort. The city is lush with a plethora of temples, forts, mosques as well as parks, gardens and beautiful colonial mansions. The strategic location of the city was one of the prime reasons why successive dynasties chose it as their seat of power. January 18, 2006 New Delhi After breakfast we continue our visit in New Delhi with sightseeing of Humayun s Tomb, Qutab Minar.
