1 Attestations for Tamil fractions and Symbols Shriramana Sharma, jamadagni-at-gmail-dot-com, India 2013-Jun-12 I recently submitted to the WG2 the document N4430 L2/ Revised proposal to encode Tamil fractions and Symbols, which is a minimal revised version of the original proposal L2/12-231, and hence did not duplicate the attestation for the characters and the discussion of those attestations from the earlier document. For convenience of the WG2, I now reproduce (only) the required attestations in this document. 1. A short note on linebreak and other properties I also take this opportunity to note that in the UTC meeting last month I was asked about the line-break and other such properties for the proposed characters which was missing from N4430 L2/ I hereby note that my research did not uncover any special linebreaking or other special property requirements for these characters which would not be automatically predicated by their requested GC values. I also note that I had already mentioned in my original proposal L2/ p 61: Linebreak and other properties may be allotted as of other similar Indic characters. For instance, the proposed and 11FEE/11FEF TAMIL ABBREVIATION YUM/VUM are given GC=Lo (see N4430 L2/ p 3) since they are abbreviations of what would be written out using letters: ய ம and வ ம. Thus one can write the following: without the abbreviation as: or using the abbreviation: malaiyum maṭuvum மல ய ம மட வ ம மல மட If the non-abbreviated form of yum ய ம would not present a linebreak opportunity between itself and the preceding malai மல, so should the abbreviated form of yum also not present such an opportunity. It is my understanding that this is taken care of by default by the given property GC=Lo. Thus I repeat my earlier statement that my research has not uncovered any special linebreak or other property requirements for these characters other what the given GC would entail in Indic or other scripts. 1 of 28
