Without reason we dream the impossible dream. Yet today it is apparent only a tiny percent of the world lives their lifelong dream. Why? Are Dreams impossible? Or does the magnificent capacity of our imagination overwhelm us into thinking so. Everyday in this bustling metropolis of what we call home, there seem to be unfulfilled and uncontent people. I believe each of these people feels so because they have, through an impoverished support network, stopped dreaming their impossible dream. Today s unlimited offers of instantaneous satisfaction enable one to live comfortable without any effort whatsoever apart from a few clicks of a mouse. "Generation X" as they have labelled us. We have become accustomed to everything happening 'now'. Although as technologically liberated as we are, we seem to be forgetting an important part of our heritage. Hard Work. Nothing would ever be possible without it. And for this generation, Hard work can be an overwhelming expression, because we are accutely aware of how much work must go into grasping ahold of our dreams. So we turn to those around us, also held tightly by the grasp of instant satisfaction and they say this is hard and we learn to settle for less. But the human spirit was not meant to give up. And when we are not working towards our dreams, we feel unfulfilled, feeling like there is so much more out there. I am here today to deliver a message. Never Give Up. Never give up your impossible dream. You see, human beings are social beings. We turn to others for clues on how to lead our own lives. When one becomes enflamed in passion, the passion that comes from perusing ones true purpose, we all find passion. When we become defeated, crushed against life s hardships, we all become defeated. We are the next generation of world leaders, and those we touch will look to our own lives for guidance on how to lead their own lives. Never stop dreaming the impossible dream, and sooner or later you will never confuse a single defeat with a final defeat. Everything is always impossible before it works. The truth is, virtually anyone who has done anything worthwhile has overcome hardship, stared down adversity, and weathered stormy seas. Just look at the ships log of Christopher Columbus. In the year 1492 Western Europe had become highly dependent on China for spices to prevent meat from going rancid during the summer months. The Turks were attacking the caravans to China, and pirates were attacking the shipping routes to China. There was a desperate need to find a new route to the east to get these spices. But there was a hypothesis that the world was round and not flat, and that by travelling West one would reach the far East. Christopher Columbus had an impossible dream. He believed so strongly he could circumnavigate the globe a King granted him the resources he needed to undertake this journey. During Columbus s darkest hours when all hope seemed lost, he persisted. On this day we sailed on. Wrote Columbus, The storms were buffeting the ships. On this day we sailed on. 8 We can all learn from Columbus s pain. As we visualize ourselves thriving in our glistening dreams at their full glory, you will realize there is a tremendous amount of work you have to accomplish. But work is the lifeblood of greatness. So when your dream seems so overwhelmingly grand, do not be overwhelmed by the measurement of hard work. Be inspired. For it is a measurement of the greatness becoming you. We must never stop dreaming our dreams. For dreams are the jewels of our future. They provide the hope for tomorrow. And it begins with Ill try.. I can.. and I will.. One day at a time". Believing in yourself is an endless destination. Believing you have failed is the end of your journey. Bicycle across the United States. Try bobsledding. Try anything. Speak out against the designated hitter. Travel to a country where you don t speak the language. Call her. 11 I tell you what most people are unhappy...they don't move!...look at our lives today: and most people live in a box, don't they? they get up in the morning, and have a box cereal breakfast, right? and then they get in their box and drive. And sure enough they drive to their box office. They go up in a box elevator. They type on a box, talk on a box, they have a box lunch, they drive their box home, they turn their box to be entertained, and maybe... maybe they just really go for the variety and have a cylinder to try and change their state! Listen, life is gotta be about movement! When you move in your life, Emotion comes from Motion. The more you move, the more you feel. On the other hand, the less you move, the less you feel, the less alive you are. If you are totally rigid, totally inflexible, no movement, it's also known as death! If emotionally you are stuck, Move! So everyday you gotta move! And that can be a simple gentle form of exercise. The quality of your Life is the quality of the consistent emotions you experience. 12 So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people. Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide. Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place. Show respect to all people and grovel to none. When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself. Abuse no one and no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision.
