1 Ginosko Philippians 3:8-10 Session 5: God Makes; Doctrine of Creationism (part 2) Doctrine, What Christians Should Believe authors Mark Driscoll & Gerry Breshears Read pp The bulk of our time this evening will be spent in discussion and expansion of what we covered last week on creation and more specifically the impact of Darwin s Theory of Evolution on our culture and thinking today. Discussion #1; Differing biblical theories on the timeline of creation and age of the earth: Our first discussion session will deal with the different ideas presented on the method of Biblical creation and the age of the earth. Keep in mind: 1. The Bible is not clear on these issues therefore these are just ideas and opinions. 2. There may not be any discoverable right answer. 3. Our purpose is not to argue a point but to familiarize ourselves with the explanations scholars offer to answer these questions. Please divide into groups of 8-10 people, appoint a moderator and a scribe. Use the material found on pages of your book for reference. Your sense of right and wrong is a product of evolution and is of your own making. I have every right to disagree with you. 3. If there is an established right and wrong it is public opinion and is subject to change at the whim of mankind. As with all Godless philosophies, the final conclusion is an unyielding despair. You have no reason for existence and no future after you die. If things are not going well for you then suicide might be the best answer as it will end your misery. This is the ruling philosophy of our world today. Abortion is not the killing of babies, it is the fixing of an accident. And even if it is a baby, it is a product of chance and no different than a dog. It is expensive and a burden on society to care for the mentally handicapped, old, and infirm. These are the soulless products of chance and are disposable. What a hopeless view of life!! BUT: God is not like that!!!! Because there really is a living God who is a person that created us and is very involved in our lives we have a firm foundation for everything we are and everything we do!!!! This is not a cruel vindictive God that plays games with people but a God who LOVES us with a perfect love. He has gifted us with the 4

5 capacity to love Him back and to love others. He has given us a SALVATION based on His goodness, justice, and grace and blessed us with the ability to respond to that Salvation which gives us a future and a hope. We have an eternal reason to live and a fulfilling purpose to guide our everyday life. He has blessed us with beauty all around that demonstrates His Glory and Majesty. He has created in us a conscience and the understanding of right and wrong. He has authored and preserved His written Word for our guidance and protection. We of all God s creation are the most blessed!! Our only response can be to love Him with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and reflect back on Him all the Glory that is His! Sola Gloria Dei ALL GLORY TO GOD ALONE! 5
