Remember to label your notes by number. This way you will know if you are missing notes, you ll know what notes you need, etc. Include the date of the notes given.
Textual Evidence is another way of saying evidence from the text. In other words, you use quotes from the text you re reading in order to prove what your response is to it. Remember, quotes doesn t mean dialogue. You can use any part of the text as quotes in your own writing... not just the parts that are already in quotation marks.
When we have ideas about what we read, we need to cite Explicit Textual Evidence to support our ideas. When we read, we often are asked to answer questions or express our ideas about the text. In order to let people know we aren t making stuff up, we should use Explicit Textual Evidence to support our opinions or answers. Explicit = direct Textual = from the text Evidence = support for your answer, opinion, or idea
Try to limit your words to FIVE words from the text in your quotation marks. Don t start or end a sentence with your quoted evidence. Every sentence should be filled with YOUR words not words from the text. Remember that the evidence is SUPPORTING your point. It doesn t MAKE your point.
If you were to read The True Story of the Three Little Pigs and the prompt was: The wolf in The Three Little Pigs says that everyone is wrong about him. Do you agree that everyone has the wrong perception of him? Use evidence to support your response. What evidence would you use to support your answer?
Reword: The wolf in The Three Little Pigs believes that he is a nice wolf and everyone has the wrong perception about him. Answer: The wolf in The Three Little Pigs believes that he is a nice wolf and everyone has the wrong perception about him, however, he is best described as devious and violent.
1.) The wolf ate the first little pig 2.) The wolf ate the second little pig 3.) The wolf threatened to blow [their] house in 4.) He was a sly old wolf
Cite: The wolf in The Three Little Pigs believes that he is a nice wolf and everyone has the wrong perception about him, however, he is best described as devious and violent. For example, the wolf is characterized as a sly old wolf in the story. Furthermore, the wolf bullied the three innocent pigs, threatening that he would blow [their] house in if they did not let him in.
EXPLAIN the Evidence: Explain how the quote(s) or paraphrase(s) you pointed out support your idea. Sentence starters This is because... This means... This reveals... This illustrates... This highlights the difference between... This demonstrates
Explain: The wolf in The Three Little Pigs believes that he is a nice wolf and everyone has the wrong perception about him, however, he is best described as aggressive and violent. For example, the wolf is characterized as a sly old wolf in the story. This is because he tries to trick the pigs into letting him into their homes, all so that he could eat them. He is sneaky as he interacts with the pigs and pretends to be nice. Furthermore, the wolf bullied the three innocent pigs, threatening that he would blow [their] house in if they did not let him in. This reveals his violent nature, as he destroys their homes for his own selfish purposes.
