Indeed it s our pleasure to present to you our second newsletter! We are excited to share with you our thoughts and what Character Aroma Project (CAP) has been up to in 2018 and what we are aspiring to do in We invite you to join us on this journey of national transformation. CAP Vision: Uganda, the byword for character 2018 Events 1. Commissioning Ceremony for the participants of the 2017 Personal Development Youth Training at Brovad Hotel, Kalangala, Uganda on 22 nd March Commissioning Ceremony for the participants of the Leadership training at Prime Hotel, Tororo, Uganda (24 th March 2018). Our Mission Statement: To improve, strengthen and increase the quality of Ugandan life through character building Goals: 1. To raise leaders of character who will take responsibility for their nation and continent; 2. To establish a culture of discipline in Uganda through trainings, seminars and workshops; 3. To educate the population against corruption and discrimination. 4. Enhance Uganda s reputation in terms of justice and righteousness on the International platform 5. 2 A Word from CAP Trustees Transforming Uganda through NGOs Greetings dear Friends! Transformation is not just a buzzword, it s a possibility. Every country you see and admire in the West today had to be transformed from their underdeveloped state to where they are as first world nations. More importantly, its people had to be transformed for their nations to become an envy of the world. It takes a civilized people to build a civilized nation. An important tool that has helped bring transformation to the widely admired peoples of the West is a unique tool called a nongovernmental organization (NGO). A non-profit organization (NGO) is a body that operates independently of any government, typically one whose purpose is to address a social or political issue. John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States of America famously said: "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." The global entrepreneurship monitor in 2015 named Uganda as the world s most entrepreneurial nation. Meaning more businesses was started per capita in Uganda than anywhere else in the world including the United States of America and China. This fact informs the world that Ugandans are upstarts, ambitious, innovators, hard workers and goal oriented people. It is time for the resourcefulness and pro-activeness of Ugandans to be taken to another level of effectiveness by channeling it into building people especially those who are less privileged. It s time to focus on giving back to our communities and lifting up those who are not as fortunate as we are by setting up an organized system of outreach in form of NGOs. Many people think they can t run an NGO. They think they don t have the time and resources to get it done, but it is easier than you think and far more effective and rewarding than many realize especially when the work is done right. One of the ways Western countries have made huge progress is by setting up NGOs that catered to the needs of the people. An organization like the famous Boys Scout was set up by a man called Robert Barden Powell in 1908 who was a member of the British Army. He got inspired to start this now famous organization from his experience while serving in South Africa. Great men like Martin Luther King Jr. Michael Jordan, Neil Armstrong, John F Kennedy, Bill Gates, George W. Bush and lots more were members of the Boys Scout. Great leaders have credited their success to the values and discipline they got from been members of the boy s scout all because one man out of many took an organized action. I doubt Mr. Powell knew what great impact his little movement was going to make on the world when he started the Boys scouts. Ugandans have to be able to set up such organizations that will help lift up whatever failing part of society that they are passionate about. The little knowledge and skill you have that has made you successful or comfortable can help others who are doing less than you are. You just have to begin by asking yourself what you are passionate about and begin seeking knowledge on how to fix it. Our organization CAP can help you do that. You might be passionate about helping widows, politics, the uneducated, the poor, the old, the handicapped, the homeless, the drug and alcohol addicts, the prisoners, the sexual and domestic abuse victims, etc. You can do it. One of the unique things about an NGO is that you can do it alone or get partners to join you in funding and running it. Government corruption and administrative bottlenecks have little to no impact on your activities. Friends, well-wishers and the public are able to contribute just by hearing about your project and seeing your passion and results. The scouts currently have about a quarter of a billion dollars income annually from private donations alone. Edition 2, Volume 1, Issued: Dec 2018 Page 2 of 6

3 The world is full of generous and kind-hearted people who are willing to contribute to good causes but they need a channel they can trust. You can be that channel in Uganda today. There are about 1.5 million NGOs in America and 12,500 in Uganda many of which are not fully functional. We can help lift each other by been organized in our approach to lending a helping hand. If you think you don t know how to start or how to go about finding what you re passionate about, contact us at CAP Organization and you would be guided and trained to become a nation transformer. Uganda needs its people to take responsibility for each other instead of being mad at politicians. You can have an NGO to raise good politicians as well. The failures in leadership that we see can be fixed. You have to be the change you want to see. There are desperate people out there waiting for a helping hand. Most people cannot transform themselves; all they need is an organized system and a guide. You must stop waiting on God and the government. Choose to begin today and in the near future, you would be surprised at how many lives you have been able to positively transform. Godspeed! I learned how to maximise my life and the opportunities around me and to put passion in all that I do. - Immaculate, Kalangala "I understood the quote by Myles Munroe When the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable I was really encouraged to pursue my life purpose. There is always a price or pain in achieving our goals. I have learned to be strategic and be a role model to those around me. - Michael, Kalangala I realised that we all have potential to make it. Everyone has what it takes to be the best in life. - Junior, Kalangala I learned the importance of planning. There is so much wastage when we do not plan. When we seek knowledge, gain understanding and then acquire skills, then we can be prosperous. 4 The Light has Come to Shine, Let s Shine with It Uganda a Country in Need of You! Honestly, coming to the Youth Empowerment week at Kalangala - Uganda was a great blessing. I have a principle which I live by: when you know something and you cannot impact others with this information, then it is useless. I really learnt from other speakers and our hosts Esther and Samuel Adedoyin. Upcoming Events 2019 Youth Empowerment Week in October 1) Discover Yourself Seminar With Ms. June Bugenyi I saw a lot of weeds in the land as well as countless opportunities to develop the country. I found out that my area of calling; Media, Drama, and Filmmaking is such a relevant tool in actualizing this, such a useful tool despite cultural and language barriers. You can imagine shooting and directing a movie in an entirely different dialect or language. The 2018 CAP Youth Empowerment Week programme really exposed me to a lot of God-given potentials in the lives of the youth of the land and I can't forget my experience will be unforgettably evergreen. I want to appeal to as many out there who believe in imparting lives positively and building nations to join the chariot of Character Aroma Project Uganda; let s do this together. There are a lot of children and adults that are without vision. And God's gifts in them, which are purposed to transform Uganda positively are rotting away. We can support them. Let s go there and effect a change that will help in transforming their character and attitudes.
