5. și cea mai mare realizare? - dacă există
Roxana Alina ONE- Grenoble, Alpes University and Néel Institute My name is Roxana One, I am a master student in Solid State Physics at Babes Bolyai University, Faculty of Physics and my Erasmus+ experience was a placement mobility in France, at Grenoble Alpes University and Néel Institute. I have made this choice thanks to their famous history in the research field of magnetism and magnetic materials and after the whole mobility I can say that I would make this choice again. At the beginning, I thought I will continue on the same research subject I have started here, in our laboratory, by preparing rare-earth free samples, but at the host university not only that I continued on the old theme, but I started a new one. I have started to work on rare-earths and transition metals intermetallics, by synthetizing and evaluating their magnetic properties, but the most interesting fact was the study of their behavior regarding the hydrogen insertion under high pressure, a technique that was not available in our laboratory from Cluj-Napoca. It was a fascinating experience to actually see how a gas was entering in the metallic samples and to evaluate the structural and magnetic changes that the gas insertion has made. Also, a fulfilling result was the synthesis of new magnetic phases, some of which we did not expect to find, but this is just another element which makes this internship even more valuable. In what concerns the staff from the host university and the laboratories, they were kind and nice, so the administrative part was not a problem. I was also extremely impressed by their working system, technicians and engineers. It was only a bit difficult at the beginning because my communication skills in French were not quite the best, the technical terms were missing from my vocabulary, however after two weeks everything seemed easier and speaking came naturally. I was lucky enough to stay for three weeks with a family of native speakers in a neighborhood of Grenoble, and speaking with them every day helped me to improve my level in French and also it enriched my cultural experience. In conclusion, I am grateful for this experience because it helped me to achieve more confidence and independence while working in laboratory but also for making friends.
Sanda MOLDOVEAN - Lyon I decided to go in Erasmus mobility for various reasons. First of all I wanted to achieve experience in Radiotherapy treatment field, in calculating the dose distribution on phantom measurements and getting familiar with IGRT (Imageguided Radiotherapy) technique. I always had an interest in cancer development and treatment so for me it was a real challenge to join the Radiotherapy team from Lyon Sud Hospital. My expectations were partially satisfied. This is normal because the reality is not always the same with our expectations. In the first month it was difficult for me to adapt in a new society especially because I didn t speak their language. But with time things got easier. For me it was very helpful that I made friends, I traveled in my free time and I tried to minimize the stress as much as possible. The best thing that happened to me during my internship was that I learned how to live far away from home, from the comfort of having someone that will always help me. I also found out a lot of new things about myself, about what I am capable of and my abilities to adapt to critical situations. With the team I worked with, I was lucky enough to speak in English and in Romanian too. But I also needed to speak French when I had to solve an administrative problem. Knowing French, in my opinion, is mandatory when students decide to join an internship in France. In another case, learning French as soon as possible would be a great solution.
Timea GANDEK- Osnabrück My name is Gandek Timea and I m a student at Babes Bolyai University, Physics, last year of masters, specialty of Biophysics. I signed up for an Erasmus scholarship for 1 semester in Osnabruck Germany. The experience I gained here is amazing. We set up a project plan with my professor from Cluj Napoca and the professor from Osnabruck. In the first month here I received a bicycle from the University. Everybody is very welcoming. We organized weekly journal club which is basically a little gathering of the department in which somebody presents an article or a review which is relevant to our project, afterwards is followed by a short discussion about methods and result and how can we improve those. Here I learned the true value of working in a team. Every time I had a question I could address it to everybody in the department. I had no idea what so ever about electronic spin resonance, so for the first step was to gain a view about this technique. For this I had to follow a practical course which was very fun. They let me prepare everything and if I had some ideas regarding the experiment, they let me try it with supervision. They are very open to every suggestion. Even in collaboration with other department for purchasing substances they were very open minded. After 3,5 months in Osnabruck I m able to do my own research idea without supervision so I can continue with my research in Romania. I want to thank you for this opportunity to the coordinators from Erasmus, my supervisor Vasile Chis and last but not least to professor Heinz-Juergen Steinhoff from Osnabruck. I recommend to all the students to try this program at least once.
Andrei CODESCU - TU Chemnitz As a student in the last year of my Master s programme and because I have not experienced an ERASMUS + internship before I thought this could be a perfect opportunity for studying abroad and so it was. I chose to go through an academic experience at Technical University of Chemnitz (Germany) - more exactly inside the Semiconductor Physics Research Group - due to their Optical Spectroscopy research field where I had the opportunity to learn a new technique like Spectroscopic Ellipsometry, which is not available at my home university. I found it interesting due to its nondestructive and contactless way to measure a sample, in order to determine the optimal conformation for the best performances of an electronic device, which is similarly as final purpose regarding my field of study. During my stay in Chemnitz, I have improved my foreign language skills and also the way to look after new opportunities. In terms of a social life in Chemnitz I must say I could not live there more than half a year since it is a very small city with absolutely nothing to do, except going to work. But this is just my statement. Since my period of stay in Germany was too short, due to administrative issues, (3 months unusual, considering that a normal period of stay is a semester, 5 months) I didn t have big expectations, but still, I was lucky to sign up for the A1 German class offered by TU Chemnitz and so I was able to obtain the A1 certificate at the end of the course. Even though it was a short period of stay, as an overall experience I can say that I am satisfied with it since it was a good way to expand my horizons regarding the academic life and considering that I am looking for the bigger picture.
Adam Szabolcs IAMANDI - Coimbra As an Erasmus student, this was my first time when I had chance to go to study to another university outside of the country, in my case to the University of Coimbra, Coimbra, Portugal. When I arrived to Coimbra I had the first and only negative think about this Erasmus+ program. I had the appointment to arrive to the university but my problem it was that I didn t know the language. With the English I asked in vain about the bus to go to the university but the people they are tried to help me, to explain the things in Portuguese but I didn t understood but with luck I found what I want, by the way, the Portuguese people are friendly. At the university everybody was friendly. The professors they helped me when I had problems, they taught me new thinks for example how to use the instruments. In Coimbra I lived in the university residence. A part of the students from the residence was from the countries which in the past was Portugal colonies. They was friendly and I made friends there. I learned from them new thinks about their culture and countries. The Christmas I celebrated with a Portuguese family and I experienced their Christmas traditions. I traveled in the most important cities from Portugal like Lisbon, Porto, and Fatima and also I was to the Azores Islands. For me the Erasmus+ program it was very good, I reached every think what I planned to do there. SEM instrument used and a 10 μm zoom on Ba 10 Ti 10
Örs ISTOK - Lyon Participating on a nine month period Erasmus+ mobility helped me enormously, because this way I could finally imagine if I would like a future job in the research field or not. My expectations were to meet a well organised research team that has first of all a good communication plan between student and team. Happily my expectation where almost met, except a few little things, that is not worth mentioning. As for the communication with the research team was held in English, at the beginning they held monthly a meeting where we discussed about my findings and after it got reduced by unknown reasons. After arriving in Lyon in July 2016, at first it was hard to figure out where everything is, where to pay my rent and where is my lab, here is where communication problems occurred, by not speaking French. I am happy that I was offered this possibility because I realised that living in a foreign country is not so hard and I am more opened in trying, or why not, moving to other country. Thank you Erasmus!
Antonia Teodora PERJU- Erlangen My name is Antonia Teodora Perju and I am a student at Babes-Bolyai University, Faculty of Physics. I am now in my last year of a Bachelor Program. I was with the Erasmus Scholarship in my second year, second semester in Germany. I have chosen to go to Germany, because I have learned in a german highschool in my homecity, and I was interested to see how the students are learning there. I went in Erlangen, Nurnberg, at Friedrich Alexander University. I was also very excited to have the oppurtunity to improve my german skills. I have chosen the FAU University, because they have wide known laboratories and results in the Medical Physics domain. I took some courses with the students that were in the same semester as me, but also some courses with students from master programms. I was astonished by the way they are allowed to choose any course from any faculty and any program. I was truly amazed by the liberty that they have to choose what they want to study. I had also a very good feeling, observing that the teachers were involved in their teaching classes and concerned that all the students understand the subjects, they are teaching. I had a great advantage, because I know the german language since the kindergarten, so I didn`t have any dificulties with the language. It was also a advantage, because I had a lot of oppurtunitites to practice the english language. I also had a Erasmus buddy, which helped me very much. We began to talk before I went to Germany and he answered me to a lot of questions and helped me with a lot of administrativ things. I am glad that I used the oppurtunity that Erasmus offers, because I have made a lot of friends and I had experinced another sistem, that helped me realise what I want to do with my future.
