Review of speaker meeting Ms. Devina Kothari- My Lessons Learnt from Failures It is fine to celebrate success but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure. This message had been very well impersonated by Speaker Ms Devina Kothari in her vocalizations on My lessons learnt from Failures. The gathering started off with the Recitation of Rotary Prayer by Rtn Manish Patel followed by a very impactful Introduction of Key note speaker by Ann Jigna Parsana. Sub sequentially; a power pact monologue on lessons learnt from my failures had been presented by Ms. Devina Kothari. Ms Devina Kothari a nation renowned Innovative Designer ventriloquist or spilled the beans about her failures that had she encountered on her path to colossal success and the lessons she learnt from it. She enlisted few steps to be undertaken when confronted by FAILURE in life. Fail but rise like a Phoenix spreading your wings with higher determination and dedication, Chase for whatever you want - RUN AFTER YOUR DREAMS WHOLEHEARTEDLY, Taking calculated risks backed up by 100 percent loyalty and uphill battle will definitely lead to higher benefits, Indentify when the problem is YOU and take accountability of your failures, Surround yourself with wise and knowledgeable kin who could provide you right guidance at the right time, Be humble to others and grateful for whatever you have achieved in life, because success is short lived but soft spoken courteous words go a long way and creates enduring impression, Speak at last when affronted by any setback or crisis as this will give you a chance to know other s point of view and an upper hand at representing your own view point for the same, Give back to the society as there is nothing more rewarding than giving back to the greater community and lastly Love your family as they are your biggest support system through thick and thin These lessons shared by her gave us some very insightful memorandum on how Failure is the opportunity to begin again only this time More wisely. Henceforth, the entire quintessence of the convention being - Failure is not the opposite of success it is the part of success. Drawing to a closure, Rtn Ravi Chhotai marked the winding up of the assemblage by a rhyming literacy piece - When the great scorer comes to write against your name he marks not whether you won or lost but how you played the game. RCC Donation of Books to students of Pujeet Rupni Trust Books are the treasured wealth of the world and the fit inheritance of generations and nations. To enrich the future generations with this invaluable treasure RCC undertook a very considerate inventiveness of donating books to students of Pujeet Rupani Trust. Furthermore, the RCC team also explained the importance of reading to these students. They very well conveyed and articulated the message that Reading gives more lives, more opportunities --- Reading is to your brain what water is to a tree. Surprisingly, during the session they came across the fact that these kids had exceptional general
knowledge. The kids were also very inspirational which was evident in the manner they wished a fellow classmate or friend on his birthday with a group prayer as they did not have enough money to buy him a present. This act of gratitude may definitely inspire others to serve to their capacity. Review of Challenges for youth today and tomorrow and Eye Check Up Camp at Sunshine College Giving back to the communities and institutions that helped us achieve success - is a value we Rotarians share and a privilege we embrace dutifully. Such an obligatory inception had been undertaken by the Veteran Members of RCRG Dr Amee Mehta and Dr Ketan Bavishi at the premises of Sunshine College, Rajkot. Almost 140 female students of Sunshine College introspectively engaged in to the seminar on Challenges for Youth today and Tomorrow conducted by Dr. Amee Mehta wherein one of the most tabooed issues regarding female well being i.e. Menstrual Hygiene had been discussed in depth. Altogether, 115 students were benefited by the *Eye Check Up* camp organized in its first phase - wherein a free eye checkup had been conducted by one of the senior most ophthalmologist in the town -*PP Rtn. Dr. Ketan Bavishi* at the edifices of Sunshine College. RCRG is very grateful to Dr Amee Mehta and Dr. Ketan Bavishi for sparing their valuable time for such a righteous purpose. - We also highly appreciate and acknowledge -the readiness and the hard work of *Ann Monika Mehta* for co-coordinating this two day programme and undertaking such an inventiveness amongst the afresh anew novice of Sunshine College. It is correctly said that there is nothing more rewarding than GIVING BACK and MAKING a difference in the lives of people in this great community. President s Reminder 1) Giving is not just about making a DONATION It s about making a DIFFERENCE. As a far- sighted and dedicated action to serve the society, we *Rotary Club of Rajkot Greater* are embarking on a new mission of donating Used Clothes to deprived or under privileged personage. A modest appeal to all the members to donate their used clothes for this humanitarian purpose. We will arrange for adequate distribution of the received clothes to disadvantaged populace. A bighearted and generous contribution is anticipated from all the members for this charitable cause. To respect beneficiaries, we urge to donate duly washed and ironed clothes with marking of size. This arrangement would help us to distribute all the clothes to specific person only. We request you to also share this message in your personal groups, as a contribution from all of us; will ensure maximum distribution to beneficiaries. Please contact any of below Rotarians for further details to send used clothes: Rtn. Bhavesh Mehta Rtn Nilesh Bhojani Rtn Bhavesh Pabari Rtn Paresh Kalawadia
Moments of Pride, Praise and Glory for RCRG On the occasion of Independence Day Celebration International Youth Exchange student Kathe Braun from RI District 3060 had been invited by Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Flag Hoisting Ceremony, at Red Fort Delhi. She along with her host family and her exchange Diya Kotecha received once in a lifetime chance to be present at such an emblematic and nationalized event. Lets us know from both of them How was their representative allegorical experience? The Independence Day Jitters by Diya Kotecha It was like an honor to me to attend a national event of our Independence Day in the presence of our prestige prime minister Narendra Modi, held in Red Fort. The preparations and decorations started 2 days ago and there was a feeling of patriotism all over Delhi. There were many people including us who came 2 hours before the actual event was going to start. All the guidance for parking and sectors were really easy to find, and because of 6 different gates for parking it was easier to control the traffic around Red Fort. The security checking was really appreciable as they checked all the luggage in the cars, as well as our shoes and mobile phones. We weren t allowed to take anything except our mobile phones and ID- cards inside. There were people from all states dressed in their own attires and it felt like India was all together at once. Till now I had been hearing Modi say Mere Priya Desh Vasiyo just on the television but it was astounding to listen him in real. And it was an enduring period of time to watch our Indian politicians like Rahul Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Lal Krishna Advani and also some foreign ministers at the Red Fort. This day will always be one of the most eventful one as I was present at this national event with my host sister. My experience with the Indian Independence day: from Käthe Braun In the beginning I was very excited as I have never attended an Independence Day ceremony before and so I did not know what I will see. At the 15th of August my day started at four o`clock in the morning; we had to wake up and get ready. When we arrived at Red Fort, there were already so many security guards and people at six o clock in the morning, but of course, everyone wanted a nice site for such an important event. It was very fascinating to see people from all over India wearing their own different traditional clothes, celebrating together their country and the Independence Day. Then at 7:18 the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi arrived and hoisted the flag and everyone cheered, clapped and was very happy. After this the prime minister talked about the great developments of India in the last four years and the public cheered him all the time. Passionately we all sang the national anthem of India and balloons with the colors of the flag of India flew to the sky. It was a very amazing experience to join the Independence Day at red fort and that I was able to meet the prime minister Narendra Modi. The best Moment for me was, when the prime minister hoisted the flag, because there you could feel the happiness of every single person. A big thank you to my host family and all who helped me for making this happen, because usually it s difficult to get an invitation for this event. It was an incredible experience for me!
Editor s Mashable: Every myth in Hinduism is not only mere stories The Hindu religion is one of the most ancient religions of India. Therefore, lots of stories, myths and folklores have enriched this religion. The Trinity, Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva, are the bringers of this pious religion. The Hindu calendar comprises of the months which stand as symbols of these gods. Sharavan month in the Hindu calendar is considered as the sacred month of Lord Shiva. Shravan is the fourth month of the Hindu calendar which starts from the end of July and continues up to the third week of August. This month is named after the star, Shravana. It is considered as the holiest month according to the Hindu religion. Lots of rituals are maintained by the Hindus at this month. Some people fast at this month, many people avoid non-vegetarian foods etc. Have you ever wondered as to what are the reasons for Sharavan masa that people follow certain customs? These customs and rituals are passed on through generations. It is true that some changes have occurred in performing these rituals, but the beliefs are equal as those were in the past. So why do people follow saintly habits during Shravan masa? Besides having some religious causes, you can t avoid the scientific reason behind Shravan masa. Here are some true reasons for Shravan masa Science behind not having milk in Shravan Masa Are there any reasons for Shravan masa and avoiding milk at this time? According to Ayurveda, this is the time when the Vata Dosha' aggravates in body. It causes joint pains, knee aches, arthritis. Milk comes from cows which feed on grass and Vata intensifies in their body. Why to avoid spicy foods in Sharavan Masa? The scientific reason behind Shravan masa will amaze you. Ayurveda says the immunity becomes lower at this month. Therefore, any spicy and oily food can only exaggerate your health problems. You must follow a light and healthy diet during Shravan. Why to avoid Non veg foods? Shravan is the month of rain. Monsoon is the bredding season of insects and pests. The cattle and poultry birds are fed on grains and grass which may be affected by such perils. So, eating anything non-vegetarian may cause diseases like cholera, diarrhea, hepatitis etc. Why fasting at Shravan? Many people prefer to fast at Shravan. Actually, this is the time of incessant raining. As you get less sunlight, your digestive system doesn't work well. So, people choose to fast during the month. Generally, they fast on every Monday of this month What is the reason to avoid shaving? Such scientific reason behind Shravan masa is very surprising, isn't it? Actually, the reason to avoid shaving at this month is the razors may get rust because of monsoon. If you use it you may get infection. So, every myth in the Hinduism is not only mere stories. You can find scientific reason behind Shravan masa if you concentrate minutely on the rituals. The ancient saints have made such norms based on science which are applicable even today. FRESH THOUGHTS CONTACT AND CONNECTION by Dr. Ketan Bavishi It was April I was returning from Delhi by flight with a monk of the RamaKrishna Mission sitting next to me and a journalist from the US sitting on the third seat. The journalist started interviewing the monk as planned earlier. Journalist - Sir, in your last lecture, you told us about Jogajog (contact) & Sanjog (connection ). It's really confusing. Can you explain? The Monk smiled and apparently deviating from the question asked the journalist: Are you from New York? Journalist - Yeh... Dr. Ketan Bavishi Monk - Who are there at home? The Journalist felt that the Monk was trying to avoid answering his question since this was a very personal and unwarranted question. Yet the journalist said: "Mother has expired. Father is there. Three brothers and one sister. All married..." The Monk, with a smile on his face, asked again: - "Do you talk to your father?" The journalist looked visibly annoyed...
The Monk - "When did you talk to him last?" The journalist, suppressing his annoyance said: "May be a month ago." The Monk: "Do you brothers and sisters meet often? When did you meet last as a family gathering?" At this point, I saw sweat on the forehead ok the journalist. I wondered who was conducting the interview, the Monk or the Journalist. It seemed that the Monk was interviewing the Journalist. With a sigh, the Journalist said: "We met last at Christmas two years ago." The Monk: "How many days did you all stay together?" The Journalist (wiping the sweat on his brow) said: "Three days..." Monk: "How much time did you spend with your Father, sitting right beside him?" I saw the journalist looking perplexed and embarrassed and scribbling something on a paper... The Monk: "Did you have breakfast, lunch or dinner together? Did you ask how he was? Did you ask how his days are passing after your mother's death?" I saw drops of tears coming out from the eyes of the journalist. The Monk held the hand of the journalist and said: "Don't be embarrassed, upset or sad. I am sorry if I have hurt you unknowingly...but this is basically the answer to your question about "contact and connection (jogajog and Sanjog)". You have 'contact' with your father but you don't have 'connection' with him. You are not connected to him. Connection is between heart and heart... sitting together, sharing meals and caring for each other ; touching, shaking hands, having eye contact, spending some time together...you brothers and sisters have 'contact' but you have no 'connection' with each other..." The journalist wiped his eyes and said: "Thanks for teaching me a fine and unforgettable lesson" This is the reality of today. Whether at home or in the society everybody has lots of contacts but there is no connection. No communication.... Everybody is in his or her own world. Let us not maintain just "contacts" but let us remain "connected"; caring, sharing and spending time with all our dear ones. President s Desk On the occasion of Janmashtami Let us all imbibe/ absorb - partake the sayings of Lord Krishna from Holy Bhaagvad Gita in order to better serve humanity above self and lead a productive and fructiferous life. Perform your obligatory duty, because action is indeed better than inaction. Be fearless and pure; never waver in your determination or your dedication to the spiritual life and benefaction to humanity. Give freely. Be self-controlled, sincere, truthful, loving, and full of the desire to serve Learn to be detached and to take joy in renunciation. Do not get angry or harm any living creature, but be compassionate and gentle; show good will to all. Cultivate vigor, patience, will, purity; avoid malice and pride. Then, you will achieve your destiny. Lord Krishna HAPPY JANMASHTAMI TO MY RCRG FAMILY
