You are invited to join in an Evening of Prayer for the GREAT NEEDS of our time - Respect for all Human Life; Support of Traditional Marriage; Religious Freedom; The Catholic Church; Peace and Justice. It will take place on the eve of the Election, November 5, 2018, at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, at Tamm and Nottingham Avenues. Bishop Mark Rivituso will be the main celebrant at the 7:30 p.m. Mass. Rosary will be recited at 7 pm. A special image of Our Lady of Guadalupe will be at the Mass. It has been blessed and touched to the original Tilma at the shrine in Mexico City, and also received a Papal Blessing from St. John Paul II in Rome. St. Ambrose Bible Study - Update Please join us on Tuesday, November 6 as we begin the St. Ambrose Bible Study! Why should we study the bible? St. Jerome, a priest and Doctor of the Church, famously insisted that Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ. If we are to be authentic disciples of Jesus Christ, therefore, an ongoing and ever-deeper encounter with Scripture is simply required of us. When will the bible study be conducted? The first series of study sessions will begin on Tuesday, November 6 and will run for six weeks, concluding on December 11. The next series of sessions will begin after the holidays. Stay tuned for those dates and times. What will be studied? Each week the Old and New Testament readings will be studied for the upcoming Sunday Liturgy. Thus each week is a new beginning, and if you have to miss a particular study session you will never be left behind! Successive series of study sessions will also be conducted to follow the readings of the liturgical year we will simply be studying the Scriptures along with the whole Church. How will the studies be conducted? The class will be conducted by way of lecture and collaborative conversation/questions. There will be no homework or advance préparation necessary for any session. Just show up and participate in whatever way is most comfortable for you. There is no cost to participate and we will have bibles available for participants to use during each session. While the New American Bible (NAB) will be the preferred translation for our study (as it is used in the liturgy), you should of course feel free to bring your own personal bible if you prefer, of whatever translation. We will also provide recommendations for more extensive study materials that can be pursued outside of class, for those who might be interested. We would love YOU to come and share this momentous occasion at a special liturgy at our Cathedral to commemorate the beatification to be celebrated on Sat., April 6, at 1:00 PM. Sr. Sandra serves at St. Ambrose parish as pastoral minister to the elderly parishioners. We also are blessed to have the presence of the Apostles that serve at Sacred Heart Villa. St. Ambrose Society Candy Drive Nov. 10 Nov. 25 The St. Ambrose Society will be putting together 300 brown bag meals for the children in the Read & Feed Program at the Claver House at the end of November. We are looking for candy donations for the children. Anything you donate would be greatly appreciated. There will be containers in the back of church for three weeks, Nov. 10 through Nov. 25 th.
