We pray for the people and organisations that work to keep the light of hope burning for those unjustly imprisoned. Give us courage to be prepared to stand up for what is right. Amen Children s Involvement Children s reflection Spend a few moments thinking about how people must feel when they are separated from their families and imprisoned for what they believe. Introduction Sometimes bad things happen to people because they refuse to change their minds about what they believe to be good and true. The story today is about someone who continued to believe in God and pray to Him every day even though the king made a law against it. Text - Read Daniel and the Lions The Lion Storyteller Book 1

Development Although people don t get thrown into dens of lions today, people like Nelson Mandela and Ghandi were imprisoned because they stood by their beliefs. Reflection Spend a few moments thinking about how people must feel when they are separated from their families and imprisoned for what they believe. End of CW have a look at where The Oarsome Bouys (Ryan Barter & Shaun Pedley) are in the Atlantic Challenge. https://www.taliskerwhiskyatlanticchallenge.com/ Tuesday Deputy head Courage Theme The Courage to Stand Firm In this worship students will be offered the opportunity to learn about the life of Peter Beneson the founder of Amnesty International -Will have the opportunity to reflect on what one person can achieve but just doing what is right. Entrance Music - Ke Na Le Modisa by the Soweto Gospel Choir. Mp4 file. Visual Focus - Image of Mandela, Gandhi & Dalai Lama slide 1 Introduction Yesterday we explored the story about Daniel and the Lions; Daniel stood by his faith and trusted in God. Text Slide 1 - Image of Mandela, Gandhi & Dalai Lama Can anyone tell me who these people are? What are they famous for? Give chn time to discuss and respond. Slide 2 Display names and short summary of Mandela, Gandhi Hymn Give me oil in my lamp Dear God We thank you for people who have shown us what it means to have the courage to believe in you. We ask you to watch over those who have to be brave to express their faith. Give us courage in our daily lives to be honest and true. Amen Peter Benensen showed that one person can make a difference and that many people working together can help to make the world a better place. What can you do to make a difference? What can you stand up for that will make the world a better place? 2

and Dalai Lama. Establish they all stood up for what they believed in, even when they were punished for it. What do we think about this? Slide 3 Display Amnesty International logo & Peter Beneson. What do you think the candle surrounded by barbed wire symbolises? (eg barbed wire might remind children of prison, the candle flame of freedom and remembrances, the candle flame goes on burning even with barbed wire around it symbolising hope.) This is the symbol of an organisation called Amnesty International, which campaigns for the freedom of people who are imprisoned unjustly. This is the story *****See the last page for Peter Beneson s story ********* Development Peter Benenson is remembered in our assembly today because he demonstrated compassion and stood by what he believed. He showed by example that even one person can make a difference by standing by their beliefs. Reflection Close your eyes and think about this Peter Benensen showed that one person can make a difference and that many people working together can help to make the world a better place. What can you do to make a difference? What can you stand up for that will make the world a better place? 3

Wednesday 1.30 pm (KS1) (KS2) Rev John Leonard/ Teachers Courage Collective Worship led by Rev John Leonard. ** EYFS/KS1 to be taken by teachers ** KS2 to be taken by Rev John Leonard Entrance Music - Ke Na Le Modisa, sung in Sotho, is an interpretation of Psalm 23 sung by the Soweto Gospel Choir. Mp4 file. Hymn Shine Jesus Shine The Lord s Personal reflections - Can we include these in our prayers? Visual Focus - Daniel and the Lion If taken by teachers EYFS /KS1 Retell the story of Daniel and the Lions using stick puppets(paper plates for the lion heads and paper cones for people) Talk to the chn about Daniel s dilemma he did not want to break the law but knew that worshipping God was more important! How must he have felt when we was told he would be spending the night with lions? Ask the chn if they have ever felt frightened about going somewhere or doing something/ It is at these times that we need to have courage. KS2 Daniel thought that his freedom to pray to God was important enough to risk his life. What is important to people in the world today? Look at recent newspapers to find stories of people who are willing to put themselves in danger for the sake of a cause they believe in. (See.ppt for historical figure Gandhi)) Do the chn believe it is ever right for someone to risk their safety for a good cause? Thursday Teachers Courage Songs of Praise.
