From the Pastor s Desk wo weeks ago, we held our annual ministry fair, inviting all parishioners to share some of their T time and talent, share some of your gifts by serving on or joining one of the parish ministries or committees. I am grateful for the people who are continuing in their ministry of choice and the few new people who signed up. There is always room on any of the parish committees to employ your gifts and talents. oday s Gospel echoes these sentiments when Jesus points out to his disciples that positions T of rank or prestige are not his right to give them. Jesus says, Whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant; whoever wishes to be first among you will be the slave of all. We know that Jesus came to serve, not be served. Where would our world be if everyone expected everyone else to serve, but had no time themselves to serve? It would be a very sorry place with many disgruntled and upset people. Fortunately, goodness, and selflessness are still around, and so many people give of themselves to make their families, their neighborhoods, their workplace a better place. May we learn from their selflessness on this World Mission Sunday as we support those who are on mission bringing the Gospel to the far corners of the earth, bringing Christ s message to those who are hungry and thirsty for truth, care, and compassion and God s living Word. eing a servant, also echoes Jess Votaw s reflection last Sunday inviting us to put aside any excuses, put aside B any hesitations and support the work and ministries of Saint Anthony Parish. Each of us is called by name, invited into a vocation of service and support. I am sincerely grateful for all those who sacrifice much to support the parish and pray that more people will step up and be financially supportive through our Grateful Living, Joyful Giving program. I am also grateful for all those who turned in their commitment cards last weekend and look forward to receiving your commitment card soon. I pray and trust that every household will do their best to support the parish. Annual toiletry drive is happening now. The Outreach Committee distributes personal care packages at our winter shelter dinners to help those in need. We hope to distribute at least 600 bags again this year, so your contributions will be greatly appreciated. Please bring in hotel size toiletries of unopened soaps, shampoos, conditioners, lotions etc. and place them in the Outreach basket in the foyer when you come to Mass, or drop them off at the church office. The 2 items of greatest need are toothpaste and deodorant. Collection continues until October 28. Each package contains; shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotions, toothpaste, toothbrush, dental floss, and deodorant. Grateful Living Joyful Giving Thank you to all parishioners who have completed and submitted your Commitment Card to the church. For those parishioners who have not yet had the opportunity to submit their card, a letter will be mailed to you with a personalized Commitment Card. It is important that all parishioners complete a Commitment Card as we will be mailing out a Summary Report of the program and need all commitments accounted for in this report. If you have any questions, please contact the church office. We also encourage all parishioners to consider our electronic giving method and to setup your reoccurring offertory gifts electronically.
