Knights of Columbus Incarnation Council #15332 May 2018 Page 1 A note from the Editor So I say to you, Ask and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. - Jesus Christ Phil Riordan, Editor phil@riordanhome.com 941-924-5906 He loves us without limit, and offers Himself to us in the Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist. Can we not give Jesus a few minutes of love and adoration in return? On the third Tuesday of each month, our Council participates in the Eucharistic Adoration at the Church Chapel. We are assigned the 5:30 to 6:00 pm time period. The Council s next Eucharistic Adoration will be on Tuesday, May 15th. Grand Knights Report Time flies when your active and involved! There are only two more months left in this Fraternal Year. The year has been moving very quickly. In the past ten months, we have accomplished a lot as a Council. From the Youth Programs to the Pancake Breakfasts, from the Bingo and Trivia Nights to the fix up, clean up, paint up projects; and of course the Spring Training Concession Stand. All of these programs and projects keep us involved in our parish and our community. Each one of us has a God given talent or two. It's what we do with those talents that makes a difference. When we share our talents and when we combine those talents with the talents of others, great things happen. I would like to thank Brother Art Reilly for coordinating the funding for an ultrasound machine for the Sarasota Medical Pregnancy Center. Brother Reilly combined the funds raised through our Baby Bottle Program with the Baby Bottle funds from three other Councils to submit an application to Supreme, through the Florida State Council, for matching funds. The matching funds have been approved and the ultrasound machine is on order. May 2018 Page 2 Grand Knights Report On April 24th, Andi Zdrava, the Music Director at Incarnation, attended his Admission Degree and became a First Degree Member of the Order. Please welcome Brother Andi into the organization. With the admission of Brother Andi, we need one more Catholic gentleman to join our Council to achieve Star Council for the seventh straight year. Who do you know that has been thinking of joining, but has not? Who is that gentleman sitting next to you at Church, but you don't know his name and his is not wearing a K of C lapel pin? These are all opportunities for new members. JUST ASK HIM! God bless you and your families. Vivat Jesus! Dale Haas, PFN Grand Knight Field Agent Report A Personal Message from your Fraternal Benefits Advisor I would like to use my regular column in the Council s Newsletter to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the Brother Knights and their families for the many cards, calls, E-mails, prayers, and well wishes I have received over the past few weeks. My family and I have been very touched by the outpouring of support from everyone. For those of you who do not already know, I had a sudden attack of massive blood clots in the lungs at the end of January, and I was in the hospital for the better part of a week. My guardian angel was certainly looking out for me, because if I had not heeded the advice of my family to go to the hospital after experiencing severe shortness of breath, I would not be speaking to you today. The good news is that I am fully recovered and back on the job working hard as the Fraternal Benefit Advisor for you, my Brother Knights and your families, and you should not hesitate to contact me if I may be of any service to you and your family. As a member of the Knights, the motto Tempus Fugit Memento Mori ( Time Flies, Remember Death ) never had a more personal meaning to me than when confronting the very real possibility of my own mortality. What would happen to my family if I Wellness Section If you are aware of a Brother or their family member who are ill or in need of support, please contact Grand Knight Dale Haas at 941-914-6228. May 2018 Page 3 died? Would they be taken care of? Did I have enough life insurance? Of course, the time to think of these questions is not in the Intensive Care Unit. Fortunately, the answer to these questions for me was yes. Because of this unexpected health crisis, I am no longer eligible to obtain insurance benefits through the Knights of Columbus or from any company. But that doesn t matter, because I had prepared in advance. This time I was lucky, but things could have gone much differently. And if it could happen to me, it could happen to you too. A sudden heart attack or stroke, a sudden diagnosis of cancer or diabetes, a sudden accident, and your ability to get the insurance you need could be forever gone. Don t wait until it s too late call me today. Vivat Jesus! Frank Burns KofC Field Agent (941) 923-7912 Frank.Burns@kofc.org. COUNCIL NOMINATING COMMITTEE SUBMITS SLATE FOR 2018-2019 OFFICERS At the April 10th Council Business Meeting, the Council Nominating Committee Phil Riordan, Deacon John Crescitelli, and Art Reilly recommended a slate of Council Officers to serve during the 2018-2019 Fraternal Year. After the nominations have been closed, the election will take place. The new Officers will take office on July 1, 2018. COUNCIL TRIVIA NIGHT The Council s monthly Trivia Night was held on April 24th. Fourteen teams enjoyed good food and comradery as they tried to answer various trivia questions. On Tuesday, May 22nd, the Council will host it s next Trivia Night. Please join us for another fun filled evening. It is open to the Knights as well as members of the Parish. May 2018 Page 4 avoid the Memorial Day Weekend. Come and enjoy breakfast and conversation with your Brothers, their family and Incarnation Parishioners. Defund Planned Parenthood Rally. After speeches at the Community Pregnancy Clinic, a Jericho walk was held around the block that included the adjacent Sarasota Planned Parenthood. The rally concluded with singing by all participants to musical accompaniment. NOVENA FOR LIFE MASS On Friday, May 25th the second Mass of the 2018 Novena for Life will be celebrated at the 11 AM Mass. This Novena runs from March 25th till December 25th (on the 25th of each month) to commemorate the nine months Jesus spent in the womb of His Mother. The Incarnation Council of the Knights of Columbus and the Incarnation Women's Club provide the parish stipend for this initiative of the Respect Life Office of the Diocese of Venice. Let us join together to reflect on the sanctity of all human life, from fertilization/conception to birth and throughout life until natural death, regardless of age or condition. This larger rally, unlike similar recent, but smaller rallies, benefitted in that Planned Parenthood had not organized a counter-rally of overwhelming numbers to vocallyimpede the ability of the 50-75 pro-life participants in the past to pray and sing in unison. DEFUND PLANNED PARENTHOOD RALLY Thanks to all Knights and other Incarnation parishioners who were among the approximately 200 people who participated in the very successful Saturday, April 28th continued on page 5...

May 2018 Page 6 WITH GREAT SADNESS It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Brother Bob Roland s wife, Sally. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Brother Bob and his family. HAIL HOLY QUEEN Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve: to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Amen. May 2018 Page 8 ONE MEMBER, PER COUNCIL, PER MONTH Membership growth is essential to the success of the Knights of Columbus. With the addition of each new member, the Order can better serve the Church, local communities and particularly those in need. But it isn t just the Order that benefits from a new member. Each new Knight benefits also. Since its beginnings the organization has promoted the principles of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism. Knights contribute to the welfare of their parishes and communities, and seek to help the needy through financial and volunteer support. In addition to the fellowship and faith development that Knights enjoy through their affiliation, the Knights offer a top-rated and competitively priced insurance program for the security of member families. Please do your part as a member of Incarnation Council #15332 to recruit a new Knight.
