NC Presbyterian Pilgrimage News Editor: Bill Wardlaw wrwardlaw@att.net October, 2011 Presbyterian Pilgrimage #108, Oct 13 16, 2011, Camp Hanes Dear Friends in Christ, Pilgrimage at Camp Hanes in February,2002 changed my life forever. Will Pilgrimage in October, 2011 change someone else's life? I pray that it will. I am humbled to be God's servant, and the Rector for NCPP #108. The scripture I am centering this weekend around is I Corinthians 16:14, Let all that you do be done in love." Please help us Lord - to do everything with love, as we are commanded to love one another, just as Christ loves us. We, as a team, are blessed to be a blessing. NCPP #108 has 16 first time team members and 4 speakers giving talks for the first time. I pray that we will glorify God and share His love in all we do. As Fourth Day we all want to show our love for new Pilgrims. Please pray for the guests daily. Sign up for the Prayer Banner. Ask your reunion groups to make pillow and table palanca. Don and Kristi will be leading the Serenade. Please join us for an evening of praising God in song and honoring (and surprising!) #108 guests. Remember the Ultreya is for ALL Pilgrims. It's a great time to reconnect with old friends and meet new ones. It will be at Jamestown Presbyterian Church on October 29th at 5:30 pm - bring a "covered dish". The new Pilgrims will be sharing with us their Fourth Day experiences. We will also be commissioning Mari-Jo Dryden as the Rector of NCPP #110. Let us all be God s love in action! In His service, David Farmer A Letter From The Rector

Page 4 NC Presbyterian Pilgrimage News A Note From The Editor Reunion: What s it all about? When I made my Cursillo weekend in San Francisco in January 1969, the idea of reunion was talked about, but not really stressed. In any case several of us did get together and tried to reunion with little if any idea what we were about. Needless to say, our reunion group soon ran out of steam and collapsed. Several years later, Susan and I moved to the Chicago area and immediately became involved with a new Cursillo movement in that area called the Ecumenical Cursillo Community of Illinois. It didn t take me long to find someone who had attended a weekend and wanted to experience reunion. Over a period of thirteen years I met with small groups that met in Church basements, restaurants and one that met at a small diner at the Clow International Airport. (Check it out, it really does exist!) During those years, the concept of reunion became firmly embedded in my life. When Susan and I arrived in Greensboro in 1993, I was almost immediately put in touch with a small group that met on Tuesday mornings at the Cracker Barrel on Wendover near Interstate 40. Eighteen years later, I still meet on Tuesday mornings. Yes, the original group has long since gone its separate ways. Members came and went as life situations changed. We ve changed meeting locations several times. These days twelve of us meet Tuesday mornings at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Our meetings with each other are important to us, and when one member found himself in Germany for several months, we met via Skype on the internet! We meet from seven till eight every Tuesday morning. Over the years a format for our meetings has evolved that seems to fit this group quite well. We rotate leadership of the group weekly so everyone has the opportunity to lead the meeting, opening and closing in prayer following the Commitment Card format. We share joys and concerns and these are included in our prayers. We ve read and shared many, many Christian books. We ve been on retreats together. We come back to the Commitment Card (Reunion Card) questions once in a while just to remind ourselves of the main function of our group. In the past eighteen years, we ve celebrated births, weddings, becoming grandparents; blessings as well as tribulations. We ve supported one another through illnesses, deaths, loss of jobs, and all sorts of life altering events. These are truly my brothers in Christ. If you have not yet found a group, keep on looking, or form one yourself. I ve met with one other person in reunion for several years. Remember that when two are gathered together, Christ is in our midst. God loves you, my brothers and sisters in Christ, and so do I! Bill Wardlaw- San Francisco Men s Cursillo #14, January, 1969

The Piedmont Conference voted unanimously at a recent called meeting to make some changes for NCPP weekend #108 in the Sunday schedule and events in order to allow the closing service to begin and end earlier than has been our experience. These changes are approved for this weekend only and will be reviewed after the weekend to determine if they should become part of our NCPP weekend schedule. The four main alterations are: 1) hold table discussion of the Commitment Card after the Total Security Rollo, 2) make some changes in the Commitment Card Dedication service, 3) at the Closing Service, call guests forward by table groups to receive their Pilgrimage Cross and, 4) move the Commissioning Service for the Observing Rector to the Ultreya. With these changes implemented in the weekend, the Closing Service is now scheduled to begin at 3:00pm instead of 4:30pm and will end around 4:00pm. We believe this will allow guests and sponsors to leave for home while it is still light. Please join us at the Closing Service for North Carolina Presbyterian Pilgrimage #108 on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at 3:00pm at Camp Hanes! Also, please plan to attend the Ultreya at 5:30pm on October 29, 2011 at Jamestown Presbyterian Church to meet the new Pilgrims, visit with friends and participate in the Commissioning of the rector for NCPP #110, Mari-Jo Dryden.
