OVERVIEW CARD Key Question: Bottom Line: Memory Verse: Who has a plan for you? God has a plan for me. For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. ACTIVITY PAGE Story: It s Hard to Be Five What You Need: It s Hard to be Five by Jamie Lee Curtis and Laura Cornell Gather the children together on the carpet and read the book.. What You Say: Learning not to hit? Having to wait your turn? Sitting still? It's definitely hard to be five or four or three. Right? Today, we heard another lesson from the Bible about. The plan God had for him was super duper hard to do. Do you think did the right thing? Yes, your absolutely right. was a hard worker and a good one. He did his job without complaining one little bit. Boy, that would be really hard to do! But did it!

ACTIVITY PAGE Jail Time What You Need: Masking or painter s tape and cd player and fun music. Before the activity: Make a large square on the floor with tape. This will be your jail. During the activity: Choose one person to be It. (The leader should be It first to demonstrate how to play.) All of the children will walk, hop, skip, tip-toe, or do whatever movement you choose around the room while the music is playing. The person who is It will try and tag people while doing the same movement until the music stops. Once tagged, It must go to jail. It must say, I m a big fan of God s plan, three times to get out. (Note: Make sure you change up your movement throughout the game and allow the children to take turns being It.) What You Say: Before the activity: Have you ever heard of a jail? (Pause.) A jail is where people have to go when they break a law. Let s pretend this square is our jail. If I tag you, you have to go stand in our jail. But don t worry, all you have to do to get out is say, I m a big fan of God s plan three times. Let s start our game by tip-toeing around the room. Here I come! I m going to put you in jail! At the end of the activity: That was so much fun! It s good to be a fan of God s plan, isn t it? (Pause.) Our Bible lesson had a real jail in it, and had to go there. Uh-oh! That s not good! Do you remember why had to go to jail?

ACTIVITY PAGE Obstacle Course What You Need: Inflatable ball, laundry basket, hula-hoop, and masking tape. Before the activity: Set up your obstacle course in a straight line. First, tape a small horizontal line on the floor about three feet away from the laundry basket and place the ball at the line. Next, about two feet behind the basket, tape a four foot vertical line on the floor. Finally place the hula-hoop two feet behind the vertical line. During the activity: Have the children start at the line in front of the basket. Challenge them to toss the ball into the basket, giving them three tries if needed. When the ball makes it into the basket have the entire class recite the Memory Verse together: For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, Jeremiah 29:11. Next, have the children walk on the tape line toe-to-heel as if they are on a balance beam. When the last child is at the end of the tape line, have the class again recite the verse. Finally, have the children jump into the hula-hoop. When the last child jumps into the hoop, have the class recite the verse together again. Repeat as many times as desired.

ACTIVITY Follow The Sign What You Need: The classroom sign used during large group worship. Play a game of follow the leader with the children, giving the sign to the leader. Make sure every child gets a turn being the leader and holding the sign. What You Say: Before the activity: Today we re going to play a game called Follow the Leader. Have you ever played that game before? (Pause.) It s a fun game! The leader in our game today gets to hold this. (Hold up sign.) This is a sign. I ll be the leader first and then we ll take turns. Here we go! Follow me! (Lead the children through a series of actions. After 30 seconds or so, choose a new leader.) At the end of the activity: You make great leaders! Good job! There was another great leader in our lesson today. His name was! Yes! helped lead the people in Egypt. Do you think it was hard for to go from being a powerful leader to being in jail? (Pause.) Sure, it was! But trusted God s plan for him and did his best for God, even in jail. God wants us to trust His plan for us, just like did. Who has a plan for you? (Pause.)

ACTIVITY s Story What You Need:, and His Brothers, and story cards from the Activity Pages on the Website, crayons, markers, glue sticks and colored paper. During the activity: Retell the Bible lesson while children color, sequence their story cards and glue them to the colored paper. What You Say: Who have we been learning about today? (Pause.)! That s right! God made and had a plan for him. Can you find the picture of? (Guide them to the card if they re having trouble. Put the big picture on the wall if it s not already there.) There he is. Can you color? (Demonstrate.) Great job! was a big fan of God s plan. God had a plan for and He has a plan for you, too! Who has a plan for you? (Pause.) God has a plan for me. We also learned that had a great big family with eleven brothers! God had a plan for and his eleven brothers and He has a plan for you. Who has a plan for you? (Pause.) God has a plan for me. Find the picture of with his family and color it in. (Guide the children in finding the card if they re having trouble. Put the big picture on the wall if it s not already there.) s brothers were upset that God talked to him in his dreams and made go far, far away. still trusted in God s plan, even though it was hard. We have one more picture to talk about. Today we learned that worked for an important man named Potiphar. God had a plan for and He has a plan for us, too. Who has a plan for you? (Pause.) God has a plan for me. Even though was a good, hard worker, someone told a lie that got in trouble and sent to jail! Can you find the picture of in jail? (Guide them in finding the card if they re having trouble. Put the big picture on the wall if it s not already there.) There it is! Color this picture.
