Lutheran hurch of the Resurrection Sunday, October 28, 2018 Reformation Sunday The presiding bishop of the ELA, Elizabeth Eaton, has been focusing our identity with four We Are statements. During these four weeks we ll use these to guide our worship and remind us what makes us unique as Lutherans. The statements are: we are church, we are Lutheran, we are church together, we are church for the sake of the world. The beauty of this is how serendipitously these statements work with Reformation, All Saints, and the God s Work. Our Hands follow up. God has certainly given us a rich and meaningful identity through hrist. Join us for worship as we explore our calling as hristians who identify as Lutheran more. + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + (Silence please for prayer and meditation) RELUDE Shepherd s Farewell Berlioz/Garner Let Us Break Bread Together Traditional/Stamp ower Medley Everson Resurrection Brass (lease stand as you are able) ONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS Blessed be the holy Trinity, the one who fashions us, the one who heals us, the one who reforms us again and again. Amen Let us confess our sin, calling for God s transforming power. Silence is kept for reflection. Source of all life, we confess that we have not allowed your grace to set us free. We fear that we are not good enough. We hear your word of love freely given to us, yet we expect others to earn it. We turn the church inward, rather than moving it outward. Forgive us. Stir us. Reform us to be a church powered by love, willing to speak for what is right, act for what is just, and seek the healing of your whole creation. Amen. Source of all life, God hears our cry and sends the Spirit to change us and to empower our lives in the world. Our sins are forgiven, God s love is unconditional, and we are raised up as God s people who will always be made new, in the name of Jesus hrist. Amen. 1

Amen (lease be seated) SHARED MINISTRY REMINDERS FIRST READING Ephesians 2:1-10 A A reading from Ephesians 1 You were dead through the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once lived, following the course of this world, following the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work among those who are disobedient. 3 All of us once lived among them in the passions of our flesh, following the desires of flesh and senses, and we were by nature children of wrath, like everyone else. 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he loved us 5 even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with hrist by grace you have been saved 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in hrist Jesus, 7 so that in the ages to come he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in hrist Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God 9 not the result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are what he has made us, created in hrist Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life. HYMN OF THE DAY God of Grace and God of Glory Arr. Joel Raney Festival hoir with Resurrection Brass and Make a Joyful Noise (ongregation join in singing final verse when directed) Guide this church to true commitment, let your vision be our own; Faith and love our earthly mission, Jesus hrist, our cornerstone. Take our lives for joyful service 'til our journey leads us home, 'Til our journey leads us home. A A A A A A A Let us confess our faith, and ponder its meaning, using the words of the Apostles reed and Luther s explanation of the 2 nd article. I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. We believe In Jesus hrist His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under ontius ilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; and on the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. What does this mean? I believe that Jesus hrist true God, Son of the Father from eternity, and true man, born of the Virgin Mary is my Lord. At great cost he has saved and redeemed me. Each of us, lost and condemned. He has freed me from sin, death, and the power of the devil not with silver or gold, but with his holy and precious blood and his innocent suffering and death. All this he has done that we may be his own, Live under him in his kingdom, and serve him in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness, just as he is risen from the dead and lives and rules eternally. This is most certainly true! RAYERS OF INTERESSION (After each petition concludes with Lord, in your mercy, the congregation responds, hear our prayer.) It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God, through our Savior Jesus hrist; who on this day overcame death and the grave, and by his glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. And so, with all the choirs of angels, with the church on earth and the hosts of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn: ONGREGATONAL SONG Holy, Holy, Holy 11
EUHARISTI RAYER Holy, mighty, and merciful Lord, heaven and earth are full of your glory. In great love you sent to us Jesus, your Son, who reached out to heal the sick and suffering, who preached good news to the poor, and who, on the cross, opened his arms to all. In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. hrist has died. hrist is risen. hrist will come again. Gather our prayers with those of the apostles, prophets, martyrs, and all the faithful who have gone before us, and unite them with the unceasing prayer of the One who lives in us and in whom we live, Jesus hrist. 12
Make us bold, O merciful God, to address you as our Abba as we pray: (Abba is an intimate word used by Jesus to address his Father as we might say, Daddy) LORD'S RAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen INVITATION TO OMMUNION Speak to us, O Lord, in the breaking of the bread, and make us one with you. (lease be seated) 13

RAYER AFTER OMMUNION A Holy and compassionate God, in bread and wine you give us gifts that form us to be humble and courageous. May your words come to life in our serving and in our witness, that we might speak a living voice of healing and justice to all the world, through Jesus hrist, our rock and our redeemer. Amen. BLESSING God, creator of all things, speaking reformation into being; Jesus hrist, savior of the world, raising the dead; Holy Spirit, living voice, calling and enlightening the church: Almighty God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, bless you now and forever. SENDING HYMN rown Him with Many rowns rown him with many crowns, the Lamb upon his throne; hark, how the heav'nly anthem drowns all music but its own. Awake, my soul, and sing of him who died for thee, and hail him as thy matchless king through all eternity. rown him the virgin's Son, the God incarnate born, whose arm those crimson trophies won which now his brow adorn; fruit of the mystic rose, yet of that rose the stem, the root whence mercy ever flows, the babe of Bethlehem. rown him the Lord of life, who triumphed o'er the grave and rose victorious in the strife for those he came to save. His glories now we sing, who died and rose on high, who died, eternal life to bring, and lives that death may die. rown him the Lord of Heaven, Enthroned in worlds above, rown him the King to whom is given The wondrous name of Love. rown him with many crowns As thrones before him fall; rown him, ye kings, with many crowns For he is King of all.
