Grand Knights Report Dear Brother Knights and Families Grand Knight's Report Father Ed, Worthy District Deputy, Brother Knights, Family and friends. I want to thank everyone for being part of this installation tonight. First, I would like to thank my brother Knights for the trust you have placed in me by electing me as your Grand Knight for the upcoming fraternal year. It is a great honor and privilege to be selected from my peers and I am proud to know that you have the confidence in me to lead our council. I will give nothing less than 100 percent of my time and attention to our council to ensure that we continue to grow as Catholic Gentlemen and add to our charitable successes of the past few years. I realize we have some challenges ahead, but I assure you that with the slate of officers you have elected, and with your help we can overcome these challenges and we will have a successful year. I would like to recognize my wife (Jean) and thank her for her prayers and support, I could not do this without her. Thank you, I love you. Ladies and Gentlemen, Past Grand Knights, seldom get the credit they deserve. I like to change that tonight, I would like to thank all past Grand Knights and past officers for helping shape our council into the great council we are today. We owe these Brothers Knights a great amount of gratitude for their service, and hard work, in building and growing our programs in support of our parish and community. Would all past Grand Knights please stand! Thank you gentlemen for all you have done. I would also like to recognize our Program Directors. These are the Brother Knights who make sure we deliver on our projects to support our parish and community. Would all Program Directors please stand! Thank you gentlemen. Now I would like to thank our soon to be Immediate Past Grand Knight (IPGK), Jim Lovering. Jim was a great mentor to me, never too busy to talk to me or any of our Brother Knights. Thank you Jim, for your never ending enthusiasm and dedication to our council. Please join me in thanking Jim for his service. A job well done. As your Grand Knight, my priorities and vision (which I will address separately) will be guided by our principles of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity. I look forward to working with each of you and especially our program directors to continue and develop activities and initiatives which build on the success of the past and meet the challenges of the future. In closing, Brother Knights, I ask you to please remember WE ARE ONE, and WE ARE FREE TO SERVE, let us trust in the lord to guide our actions in the upcoming fraternal year. I ask for your prayers as I will pray for each of you. Thank You. Vivat Jesus! Hank Alves Grand Knight Service Awards The following members are eligible for the years of service award indicated. These awards will be presented at the regular meeting in the month of July. If you cannot be present for that meeting it will be your responsibility to contact the Grand Knight to make alternate arrangements. Harry Smieciak 20 Years

Deputy Grand Knight Dear Brother Knights, I am so very proud and humbled to be elected to serve you as Deputy Grand Knight for 2016-2017. I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience thus far as a Knight and look forward to what God has in store for our council as we enter a new fraternal year. Since I am new to the council here is a little about myself and my journey to becoming a Knight. I grew up in rural Ohio but not quite exclusively Catholic. My parents met in seminary and were both ordained in the Methodist Church. I was baptized Methodist and spent the first five years of my life as a pastor s son living in the rectory of First United Methodist Church. Unfortunately, my parents slowly grew apart and divorced when I was 5. Soon thereafter my mother found the Catholic Church and learned to forgive my father who overtime also grew closer to Catholicism. By the grace of God my parents remarried in the Catholic Church. This turbulent time in our family occurred around the same time that Marcus Grodi founded the Coming Home Network (CHN) which was created to help non-catholic clergy come home to the Catholic Church. My parents became members of the CHN and their full story of conversion is featured in the book Journeys Home by Marcus Grodi. Through the CHN my parents also became close family friends with Scott and Kimberly Hahn and our family attended Kimberly s homeschool group at their residence several times a year. My father became a 3 rd degree Knight and was also quickly elected to the position of Deputy Grand Knight of council #576. I remember attending many family, church, and community functions hosted by the Knights. My most vivid memory of the Knights of Columbus however, was when I received the sacrament of Holy Communion. Seeing the Knights in full regalia and walking under an archway of swords is something I will cherish forever. From that point on I knew I wanted to be Knight! I hope to attend the 4 th degree exemplification this September. While my family went through some troubling times during my youth, ultimately God prevailed through adversity and set me on a lifetime journey of faith. Fast forward to today, I am a Chief Warrant Officer in the U.S. Army and we moved to Cibolo in June of 2015. I am married to my best friend Kate who is a U.S. Army Nurse Corps Officer and we have three children; Alexander age 4, Konner age 2, and Lucas who is 11mo. My devotions are to my family, my church, my community and my country. As your Deputy Grand Knight I promise to devote myself to serve and keep the promises of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism of our order. I hope we all strive in keeping these promises and continue to work together for the benefit of our council, church, and community. Again I would like to thank the members of Council #6358 for welcoming into the Knights of Columbus and for the trust you have placed in me to serve you, our church, and our community. Ladies Auxiliary Ladies, We won t be meeting as a group during the months of July and August. The officers will be meeting in early summer to develop an agenda for the 2016-2017 year. We will discuss what charitable work projects will be presented to the general membership at our first meeting in September for a vote. We will also be brainstorming ideas for social events. Wishing everyone a safe and blessed summer! Pat Mantor, President; 945-9276 Lectors Corner Happy Fourth of July! I would like to wish a Happy Independence Day to my entire brother s. This also brings to mind the fireworks and BBQ, s associated with this celebration. Speaking of fireworks it reminds me about the Big Bang Theory people keep talking about. Well if God is almighty I guess he could have just snapped his fingers and Bang God created the Heavens and Earth. But he didn t according to Genesis chapters 1 and 2 God took 6 days and rested on the 7 th. Our catholic beliefs say he is the LORD of Heaven and Earth, so on this Fourth of July weekend take some time to enjoy God s creation. Amen A Divine Mercy Moment in this The Year of Mercy In this Year of Mercy let us take time to pray for our priests. The following is St. Faustina s prayer for priest: O my Jesus, I beg You on behalf of the whole church; Grant it love and the light of Your Spirit, and give power to the words of priests so that hardened hearts might be brought to repentance and return to You, O lord. Lord, give us holy priests; You yourself maintain them in holiness. O Divine and Great High Priest, may the power of Your mercy accompany them everywhere and protect them from the devil s traps and snares which are continually being set for the souls of priests. May the power of Your mercy, O Lord, shatter and bring to naught all that might tarnish the sanctity of priests, for You can do all things. (Diary 1052) Membership Activities Knights Choir The Knights Choir will sing on Sunday July 17, 2016 at Good Shepherd Church at the 8AM Mass. Rehearsal is at 7:15AM. Interested Knights and friends may contact Jack Sullivan, 210-273-7189. Deadline for submitting applications and money is Monday, 8 July. I have particulars on costs and lodging when you contact me. To date, I have only 3 knights who have signed up. "First Degree Team needs help Have you come to take new members for granted? They do not just magically appear at a meeting one month. They need to first go through the First Degree Exemplification. Our council has had enough members agree to participate so that we can conduct our own First Degree Exemplifications by memory rather than depending on other councils to exemplify our candidates for us. We also have had help from other members of the council that have agreed, pursuant with guidance from Supreme, to participate in the Exemplification ceremony when specific members of the team could not participate for some reason. However, the team needs substitutes or backups committed to fill in for specific members of the team. This makes the ceremony much more fluid and effective for the candidates. Currently, there are no designated substitutes for any of the 8 members of the team. Some of the positions are not particularly difficult or complicated. But the council needs members to participate on the First Degree Team on a substitute basis. If you have the time to view the ceremony and decide which member you could substitute for, they are held on the Thursday after the 3rd Degree Business Meeting. Candidates arrive at 7:00 pm, the ceremony begins at 7:30 pm and only takes about 30 to 40 minutes. PLEASE COME AND HELP. Jerry Trahan, Team Captain" INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITY WORKSHEET This information will help us prepare our Fraternal Survey for Supreme Council office for 20.
