EAST MAIN STREET CHRISTIAN CHURCH NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 2017 Volume XCXVIII, Issue 9 SENIOR PASTOR: Roger Gardner YOUTH PASTOR: Steven Powless CHILDREN S PASTOR: Kim Marley WORSHIP LEADER/ ACCOMPANIST: Raphael Starr WEDDING COORDINATOR: Marcy Fry DIRECTOR of NOAH S ARK PRESCHOOL: Stephanie Hoel ELDER EMERITUS: Wilson Sherman TREASURER: Nedra Shepard FINANCIAL SECRETARY: Nancy Ritchie GROWING, GIVING, GLORIFYING During the month of September we will have opportunities as a church to do all of these things. Growing opportunities will include the women s Beth Moore Bible Study on the book of Revelation that begins on September 19 th. The Community Men s Group will meet the 1 st and 3 rd Saturday at 8:00 a.m. This is a time for breakfast, fellowship, and sharing our faith with each other through testimonies and discussion. Both men and women will have an opportunity to participate in a spiritual feast during the Great Banquet weekends. The men s weekend is September 21-24 followed by the women s weekend September 28-October 1. A special giving opportunity will take place on Sunday, September 10 th. One of our missionary families, Doug & Tammy White will be with us. Doug will be sharing about the work they have been doing with the Wycliffe Bible Translators in all three services, and we want to share in a special offering to help meet their need for a new vehicle. They have literally worn out their car (over 300,000 miles) and need help purchasing another one. Our mission ministry is donating $500.00 and we are asking our church family to match or exceed that gift. I also look forward to the fall and getting our church family back together in worship. We miss many of you during the summer months, and like any family, when people are missing it diminishes our fellowship. Please join us as we glorify our God in worship each Sunday. God bless, Pastor Roger OFFICE ADM. Cathy Cannon MINISTER OF MAINTENANCE Art Hensley Roger Gardner Steven Powless Kim Marley Raphael Starr Marcy Fry

The Peyton sisters are in town for the Gaither Fall Fest Hometown Spectacular and wanted to perform for us! They are a duet that mixes contemporary music, hymns, and a capella. They have been invited by the Gaithers three years in a row, and Bill Gaither has personally seen them perform at least eight times. There will be two services on September 24th, 2017. The first is a regular service at 8:30. The Peyton Sisters will fill in most of the 11:00 service. (There will be the 9:30am Sunday School, but there will be no 9:30am Worship service.) Join us for this special treat! COMMUNITY MEAL SCHEDULE 1st United Methodist Church :2nd Sat., 5pm East Main St. Christian Ch : 3rd Thurs., 6pm St. Joseph s Catholic Ch: 4th Wed., 5pm St. John s Lutheran Ch I am excited to announce that our church has a new partner in missions! Menge is the man who founded Hope Overflowing, a ministry that works to counteract hopelessness among orphans and street kids in Ethiopia. Menge works with American parents who want to adopt children from Ethiopia. He was instrumental in helping Wally and Heather Moody adopt their three children last December. Menge also works with the many kids in Ethiopia who live on the streets, seeking to provide shelter, food, clothing, and most of all, hope through loving, mentoring relationships with people like Menge. A third area of ministry for Hope Overflowing is the training and mobilization of Christians in Ethiopia to be more involved in ministry and missions. I am grateful for the opportunity to meet Menge and for our church to partner with Hope Overflowing. We are also excited that two of our other missionaries, Doug and Tammy White, will be with us on September 10 th. Doug will be speaking in all three services to give us an update on their work with Wycliffe Bible translators. EVERY ACT OF KINDNESS BENEFITS THE GIVER AS WELL AS THE RECEIVER.
