Craig Dear Parishioners, Thursday is the Holy Day of All Saints. It is a day of obligation which means we are required to attend Mass. We will have Mass the night before at 5:30. Kids can come to Mass in their Halloween costumes. Mass on Thursday will be at 6:40, 8:00, Noon & 5:30. In 835 Pope Gregory IV moved the celebration of All Martyrs later called All Saints from May 13th to November 1st. The night before this celebration became known as All Hallow s Eve. The purpose of the feast is to remember those who have died, whether they are officially recognized by the Church as saints or not. It is a celebration of the Communion of Saints. In 1840 the tradition of Trick or Treat was brought to America from Europe. Europeans would go from house to house asking for soul cakes and in return they would pray for the dead. Halloween still can be a Christian celebration of honoring the Holy men and woman who have died. November is the month to pray for the dead. When you visit a cemetery during this week, those who have died will receive indulgences. This Friday is the feast day of All Souls. We will have our special All Souls Day Mass at 7:00pm when we speak all of the names of those who have died here at St. Leo s this past year and light candles for each of them. All are welcome. Please continue to send in your cards for the Archdiocese Annual Appeal. We are at 36% of our goal. Thanks for your help. Have a great week. Fr. Craig Feast of All Souls Mass Every year, we celebrate a special memorial Mass for All Souls Day. This year, the Mass will be held on Friday, November 2nd, the Feast of All Souls. During this Mass, we pray for all of the faithful departed, but especially those have died in the past year. We also light a candle for each of our parishioners and loved ones who have died in the past year. We send an invitation to the families of the deceased loved ones we are aware of. If you had a death in the family in the past year and you did not receive an invitation this week in the mail to the November 2nd Mass at 7:00pm, please call the parish office at 402-397-0407 or email dina@stleo.net. We wish to include all our beloved dead in this ceremony. 02 l St. Leo Catholic Church

Good News from St. Pius X/St. Leo School "St. Pius X / St. Leo School is a diverse community forming students in the Catholic faith to excel in academics and service to others." St. Pius X/St. Leo School Hello St. Pius X / St. Leo Community members, I hope you had wonderful week. I wanted to thank you all again for your support for our school s recent fundraiser on October 20th. It was such a wonderful night and I cannot thank our community enough for another successful fundraiser. We were able to raise lots of funding for our improving the safety of our school building and met many of our other fundraising goals. We will share more information and details at a later time in regards to the success of our annual fundraiser. The reason we had such a successful night was due to the hard work of many talented people. Some special thanks go out to our school fundraiser co-chairs Lora Hansen, Laura O Doherty and Denise Schumacher for their tireless work and dedication to our school community. I want to also thank Lynn Weist for all her hard work on our silent auction and business donations as well as all of our fundraiser committee chairs. I also want to thank the Wharton, Morris, Spencer and Hoarty/Gautchi families for hosting our underwriting parties for the event. One big highlight of the event was our new school recruitment video that the New BLK made for our school. Thank you New BLK for such a special video. Lastly and definitely not least, I want to thank Kim Ramsey, Michaela Smith, Lisa Brewster and Kathy Graney for all their behind the scenes work and organization for our very important event. Thank you everyone for making our school fundraiser such a great night. Also, I want to send out another reminder for our annual 5th and 6th Grade Musical! This year, our musical is Madagascar Jr. and it will be held on Thursday, November 15th at 7:00 pm in the school gym. Will we will provide more information as we get closer to that performance date. I highly recommend attending, even if you do not have a student performing in the show. Our musicals, especially our 5th/6th grade musical, is one of my most favorite things about our awesome school because of all of the hard work and preparation by our students and staff. Additionally, I cannot overstate how unbelievably talented our music teachers Mrs. Karen English and Mrs. Carol Drvol are and how much they mean to our school. We are so blessed to have them at our school and it is a lot of work and dedication to put on this 5th/6th grade musical. If you have seen one of the musicals, you will know exactly what I mean. If you don t know what I mean, please show up and watch a musical that you will think should be performing at the Rose Theatre and that is not hyperbole. I want to thank Mrs. English and Mrs. Drvol for sharing their gifts with our school and working so hard to help our students share their gifts with our community. Thank you also to all of our parents who have dropped off and picked up our students as we prepare for this wonderful event. Cory Sepich, Principal If you have children in grades Pre-Kindergarten (3-year-old and 4-year-old programs) to Grade 8 that you are thinking about sending to our school for this school year, please call our school office at 402-551-6667 to set up a time to come and visit, and, then enroll your child/ ren when you decide to come to our school. We are blessed that our grades are filling up, but would love for you and your family to join our school family this year! In Pursuit of Life, Love and Happiness By: Deacon Jim Shipman Have you heard someone say, I prayed to God for help, but He never answered my prayer! All of us who believe can say that we have prayed for something, but God s answer was not what we desired or expected. The Lord does answer our prayers, but we must pray to accept and understand His will. In our first reading today Jeremiah is prophesying that the Lord will console and bring his people back from exile. God is answering their prayer, but sometimes God allows us to endure hardship and suffering to help us grow in our faith. God always is doing great things for us, but sometimes we just don t recognize his presence working in our lives. In the gospel, the blind man Bartimaeus, recognizes God s presence when he crying out Jesus, son of David have pity on me. Jesus calls him over and asks him, What do you want me to do for you? The blind man replied to him, Master I want to see. Jesus tells him, Go your way; your faith has saved you. Two important points in this gospel can be easily missed. First when Jesus calls him over, the blind man threw aside his cloak, sprang up and came to Jesus. His cloak was his MOST important possession that he owned, he threw aside what protected him from the weather, kept him warm at night and what he treasured the most. Second he asked in humility for forgiveness; then in total faith came to Jesus with the prayer to receive his sight. Our prayers are answered if we approach God in humility and have faith that His answer is the best thing for us. You can view the monthly calendar on the St. Leo website: www.stleo.net. The newsletter is found on the forms & links tab. Check it out for updated info for November! ~ Praying For Vocations ~ Priesthood Sunday. A misconception among some Catholics is that the priest has an ideal job: he works one day each week, Sunday. They forget that the other six days a week, the priest works long and hard behind the scenes: bringing communion to the sick and elderly, counseling troubled families, visiting school classes, preparing individuals for sacraments. Often the job is frustrating, exhausting and thankless, but always of vital importance. Take some time this week and express appreciation to your priests for the difficult work they do. Blood Drive November 26 12:00pm-6:00pm at St. Leo The American Red Cross Blood Drive will be here Monday, November 26 from 12:00pm-6:00pm. To donate, visit www.redcrossblood.org.
