PERSONAL INFORMATION Born to Velia Casas Acosta (Chichimekatl) and Pedro Daniel Acosta (Kickapoo) Born July 27, 1953 in Independence, Louisiana as my migrant worker parents, were traveling from Florida to Austin, Texas. At the age of seven I was given my introduction to the ancient knowledge when my cousin, Enrique Acosta gave me the volumes of Mexico atraves de los Siglos, and, at the same time, the realization that most of the information regarding it had been distorted and misunderstood. Through my teen age years I was being introduced to my responsibility and manifesting it by adopting our new indigenous identity as Chicano with my participation in cultural activities and social action. Through high school and in college I learned that the information being presented and taught was
incomplete and misrepresented...which contributed to a low self esteem, disrespect and violence amongst descendants of this original culture. When my children began bringing me information of our culture as presented to them in school I knew that I had to find the method to assure they would receive the correct information so they may claim their inheritance. After my research and review I developed the coloring book on the calendar that would give them an opportunity to see their culture in a favorable light with the true and positive meanings of the symbol.
In 1983, my precious mother had returned to nature. 10 days later in my first time in a sweat lodge led by the great teacher, and Lakota Elder, Ernie Peters Longwalker; I was reintroduced to my mother's womb and walked out of there to begin my conscious walk on the red road. In 1987 I began my travel abroad. In 1989, on my way to Nicaragua meeting my first teacher, Don Andres Segura, in Mexico City made me realize that this was one continent with one culture with many different customs and traditions. One continent with two spheres of influence and responsibility, one known as the Confederation of the Condor called Tawantinsuyo to the south and the other known as the Confederation of the Eagle called Anauak to the north. The line of influence is in Nicaragua, whose original name is Nikan Anauak, which means "up to here is Anauak"... now I was responsible to the whole continent. In 1992, in the ceremonies in Teotiuakan marking 500 years of resistance to the total annihilation of our life ways, I was fortunate to be re-introduced to the "Aztek calendar". I began once again searching out the elders that had this knowledge and wisdom in safe-keeping for 100's of years, as I realized that only by recognizing and respecting our roots could we expect to produce good fruit- children, and alleviate the suffering in our communities. In 1993 I was also re-introduced to my cosmic identity and responsibility, to plant the seeds of transformation of the Sun into the people and I was planted the name Mazatzin, which means respectable deer, in Milpa Alta, Mexico, by my Elder Teucli. We found the common denominator. One of my biggest realizations was that this information and this life way was neither exclusive nor limited by neither borders nor race and nationality. Rather, that this was a reading of the systems that exist in the universe that govern and influence life on mother Earth so it had no bearing on neither the color of your hair, eyes, skin nor place of origin. It is for all people, actually all life on earth, and this is how I have been teaching it and presenting it to students of all nationalities, and they all accept it and make it theirs. Now we know that this information has to reach the hearts and minds of all humans, if we are to survive and enjoy life on, this, our mother Earth we must first realize that we are all brothers and sisters under our father Sun. Because this ancient wisdom is based on recurring cycles our ancient astronomers knew how to prepare for what would be coming our way in the future. However, because of a lack of respect for it and its misrepresentation humans have not been able to appreciate nor learn and prepare. As a result humanity now finds itself in the brink of self destruction, wreaked with violence and depression...as the end of a cycle draws near, 2012 will be a determining factor, our time is short. But the key is to prepare now for 2012 and not wait for that date and expect, miraculously, that humans will wake up in the morning and love and respect each other. As one of the "new keepers" of this information, knowing my cosmic identity and responsibility has allowed me to understand that one person can and must make a difference once he or she realizes that within themselves they possess everything necessary to fulfill their mission on our mother Earth, to wit: promote and live in harmony so that our children can learn to live a permanently just and happy life. And, that this mission is painted in the ancient codices according to when you took that first breath of life it is not really about you, it is about time so it applies to everyone. These life ways and teachings have survived the test of time and the continued assault and attempted extermination because they were not based on the whims of mankind but rather on that special relationship between mankind and his respect and identification of himself as part of nature in the rhythm of the cosmos. In short, that very special duality of being an individual and cosmos at the same time can be achieved when we learn to see without our eyes as Ixkimilli Tezkatlipoka.
