Voluntary Cantabile César Franck The Word of God All stand. The Hymnal 411 O bless the Lord, my soul! Priest People Blessed be God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. And blessed be God s kingdom, now and for ever. Amen. The Priest and People offer the Collect of Purity Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. Gloria At 10 am At 8 am Glory to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth. Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father; receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen. Hymnal S280 3

The Celebrant then says The Lord be with you. People And also with you. Celebrant Let us pray. Collect of the Day Almighty and everlasting God, increase in us the gifts of faith, hope, and charity; and, that we may obtain what you promise, make us love what you command; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. The First Reading Jeremiah 31:7-9 Thus says the LORD: Sing aloud with gladness for Jacob, and raise shouts for the chief of the nations; proclaim, give praise, and say, Save, O Lord, your people, the remnant of Israel. See, I am going to bring them from the land of the north, and gather them from the farthest parts of the earth, among them the blind and the lame, those with child and those in labor, together; a great company, they shall return here. With weeping they shall come, and with consolations I will lead them back, I will let them walk by brooks of water, in a straight path in which they shall not stumble; for I have become a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn. Reader The Word of the Lord. People Thanks be to God. Psalm 126 at 8 am 1 When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, * then were we like those who dream. 2 Then was our mouth filled with laughter, * and our tongue with shouts of joy. 4

Psalm 126 at 8 am continued 3 Then they said among the nations, * The LORD has done great things for them. Psalm 126 at 10 am 4 The LORD has done great things for us, * and we are glad indeed. 5 Restore our fortunes, O LORD, * like the watercourses of the Negev. 6 Those who sowed with tears * will reap with songs of joy. 7 Those who go out weeping, carrying the seed, * will come again with joy, shouldering their sheaves. 5

The Second Reading Hebrews 7:23-28 The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office; but Jesus holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. Consequently he is able for all time to save those who approach God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them. For it was fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, blameless, undefiled, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. Unlike the other high priests, he has no need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for those of the people; this he did once for all when he offered himself. For the law appoints as high priests those who are subject to weakness, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect forever. Reader The Word of the Lord. People Thanks be to God. The people stand. At 10 am The Hymnal 566 From thee all skill and science flow The Gospel Mark 10:46-52 Deacon The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark. People Glory to you, Lord Christ. Jesus and his disciples came to Jericho. As he and his disciples and a large crowd were leaving Jericho, Bartimaeus son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the roadside. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout out and say, Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me! Many sternly ordered him to be quiet, but he cried out even more loudly, Son of David, have mercy on me! Jesus stood still and said, Call him here. And they called the blind man, saying to him, Take heart; get up, he is calling you. So throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. Then Jesus said to him, What do you want me to do for you? The blind man said to him, My teacher, let me see again. Jesus said to him, Go; your faith has made you well. Immediately he regained his sight and followed him on the way. Deacon The Gospel of the Lord. People Praise to you, Lord Christ. Sermon The Rev. Nancy Webb Stroud The Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. 6

We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. The Prayers of the People Based on the Collects for Propers 22-25 Deacon: Almighty and everlasting God, you are always more ready to hear than we to pray, and to give more than we either desire or deserve. We come to you this day with minds and hearts open to receive your loving grace. Response: Lord, we pray that your grace may always precede and follow us. Almighty and everlasting God, preserve the works of your mercy, that your Church throughout the world may persevere with steadfast faith in the confession of your name. Lord, we pray that your grace may always precede and follow us. Almighty and everlasting God, you have revealed your glory among the nations. Fill our government leaders Donald, Elizabeth, Ed, Richie, Charlie and our local civic leaders with the power of your grace, that they may lead us in your justice and truth. Lord, we pray that your grace may always precede and follow us. Almighty and everlasting God, our world at times seems to be in darkness. We pray that our world and all the nations therein may be bathed in the light of Christ and know the joy of being your chosen people. Lord, we pray that your grace may always precede and follow us. Almighty and everlasting God, increase in us the gifts of faith, hope, and charity that we may be given to good works to the benefit of those in our communities who are not as fortunate as we here assembled. We pray for the people of the First Baptist Church of Wakefield that was destroyed by fire this week. Lord, we pray that your grace may always precede and follow us. Almighty and everlasting God, pour upon us the abundance of your mercy: we give thanks for our many blessings, especially for Finn Krok for whom the Altar memorials have been offered; and we intercede for those who are ill and in need of your healing love and grace. The Congregation is invited to add names. With hope in our hearts: Lord, we pray that your grace may always precede and follow us. Almighty and everlasting God, we pray for the departed, remembering especially Dave Koerber and Patricia Asiltine, recently departed; Geraldine Krok and Flora Reardon for whom the altar memorials have been given; Stuart Bates Webb, Julia Haas Webb, Samuel Shober Stroud and Judith Macy Stroud for whom the sanctuary lamp burns. Lord, we pray that your grace may always precede and follow us. The Celebrant adds a concluding Collect. Beggar God, you call us from the roadside to see ourselves in you: let us take heart and come to you, though your road leads to Calvary and absent sun, to love revealed for lightless eyes; through Jesus Christ, the image of the invisible God. Amen. 7

Deacon Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor. Silence is kept. God of all mercy, we confess that we have sinned against you, opposing your will in our lives. We have denied your goodness in each other, in ourselves, and in the world you have created. We repent of the evil that enslaves us, the evil we have done, and the evil done on our behalf. Forgive, restore, and strengthen us through our Savior Jesus Christ, that we may abide in your love and serve only your will. Amen. Celebrant Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen. The People stand. The Peace Celebrant The peace of the Lord be always with you. People And also with you. Welcome and announcements The Great Thanksgiving An offering of money is received (during the anthem at 10 am). Then the people stand to sing the hymn while the gifts of money, bread, and food are offered. At 10 am Choir Anthem Jubilate Deo Gordon Young Jubilate, jubilate, jubilate Deo. Jubilate, jubilate, jubilate Deo. Alleluia, Alleluia, all the bells on earth do ring! Alleluia, Alleluia, Ring the glory of our King! Hear the sound of jubilation, Pouring out in glad array; Peal on peal of exultation, Ring the bells this joyful day. The people stand. The Hymnal 671 The people standing, the Celebrant says Celebrant The Lord be with you. People And also with you. Celebrant Lift up your hearts. People We lift them to the Lord. Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People It is right to give our thanks and praise. 8 Happy sound of celebration, Brightly ringing roundelay; Endless songs of adoration, Ring the bells to say: Jubilate, jubilate, jubilate Deo. Jubilate, jubilate, jubilate Deo. Alleluia, Alleluia, all the bells on earth do ring! Alleluia, Alleluia, Ring the glory of our King! Words and Music: Gordon Young Amazing grace! how sweet the sound The Celebrant proceeds All thanks and praise are yours at all times and in all places, our true and loving God; through Jesus Christ, your eternal Word, the Wisdom from on high by whom you created all things. You laid the

foundations of the world and enclosed the sea when it burst out from the womb; You brought forth all creatures of the earth and gave breath to humankind. Wondrous are you, Holy One of Blessing, all you create is a sign of hope for our journey; And so as the morning stars sing your praises we join the heavenly beings and all creation as we shout with joy: At 8 am Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. At 10 am Celebrant and People The Hymnal, S129 The Celebrant continues Glory and honor are yours, Creator of all, your Word has never been silent; you called a people to yourself, as a light to the nations, you delivered them from bondage and led them to a land of promise. Of your grace, you gave Jesus to be human, to share our life, to proclaim the coming of your holy reign and give himself for us, a fragrant offering. Through Jesus Christ our Redeemer, you have freed us from sin, brought us into your life, reconciled us to you, and restored us to the glory you intend for us. We thank you that on the night before he died for us Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, gave it to his friends and said: Take, eat, this is my Body, broken for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. 9

After supper Jesus took the cup of wine, said the blessing, gave it to his friends and said: Drink this, all of you: this cup is the new Covenant in my Blood, poured out for you and for all for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. And so, remembering all that was done for us: the cross, the tomb, the resurrection and ascension, longing for Christ s coming in glory, and presenting to you these gifts your earth has formed and human hands have made, we acclaim you, O Christ: Celebrant and People Dying, you destroyed our death. Rising, you restored our life. Christ Jesus, come in glory! The Celebrant continues Send your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these gifts of bread and wine that they may be to us the Body and Blood of your Christ. Grant that we, burning with your Spirit s power, may be a people of hope, justice and love. Giver of Life, draw us together in the Body of Christ, and in the fullness of time gather us with all your people into the joy of our true eternal home. Through Christ and with Christ and in Christ, by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, we worship you our God and Creator in voices of unending praise. Celebrant and People At 8 am Blessed are you, now and for ever. Amen. Celebrant and People at 10 am And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say, Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. 10 Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen. The Breaking of the Bread At 8 am Celebrant Alleluia. Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us; People Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia. At 10 am Wonder, Love and Praise 875 The People sing the refrain after the choir and where indicated Refrain Be known to us Lord Jesus, in the breaking of the bread. GIFTED LIVES AT ATONEMENT For the past year we have been learning, discerning, and praying about our spiritual gifts, using The Spiritual Gifts Project, a book being developed by the Rev. Frank Allen, who was our stewardship preacher in 2016. Many of us have taken Frank s Spiritual Gifts Inventory and reported back on their strongest gifts. (And some of us have taken the inventory and not reported back, but there is still time!) But whether your name is on a chart in the Narthex or not, it is truth that God has given you, and me, and all of God s beloved, gifts for living our lives in God s love. This year, our Stewardship theme is Celebrating our Gifts. Last week, you may have heard our Presiding Bishop talk about following the Way of Love. (To see a video of his sermons, go to www.wmarevival.org.) In today s sermon, you have heard a little bit about how God s gifts give us the power to follow the Way of Love. Next week, we welcome The Rev. Canon Richard Simpson, who will tell us more! In this season of celebration of God s gifts to us, we are also asking very specifically for gifts from you to all of us who gather as the church. Your financial gifts allow us to maintain this building, pay our professional staff, and administer programs for the good of our members, the people of our surrounding community, and people in need around the world. You will receive more information about Celebrating Our Gifts in the mail, along with a pledge card. We ask you to pray in gratitude for all of the gifts God has given you and us, the Church. Then we ask you to pray about your financial gift to The Episcopal Church of the Atonement in 2019. We will gather your pledge on Sunday, November 11 at the 8 am and 10 am services, and then gather as the church for a celebration brunch, beginning at 11:30 am.
