October 28, 2018 11:00 a.m. Reformation Sunday We welcome you to worship with us this morning, as we gather in community to draw closer to God, made known in Christ. We pray you will know the presence of the Lord, through our worship, and through the work of the Spirit. We invite you to take these moments before worship to calm your hearts and minds and open yourself to the quiet stillness of the presence of God! GOD GATHERS THE PEOPLE Prelude Sandra Perkins & Gail Rollings Chiming of the Hour Welcome & Announcements Passing of the Peace Rose Scott Rev. Jason N. Cashing Sharing of Joys/Concerns

Call to Worship One: I will bless the Lord at all times, All: God s praise will continually be in my mouth. One: My soul makes its boast in the Lord, All: Let the humble hear and be glad. One: O magnify the Lord with me, All: Let us exalt God s name together! *Opening Hymn #54 Make a Joyful Noise to God! Prayer of Confession (in unison) Merciful God, we have not been humble. We have discouraged others from seeking you. We have not sought your wisdom. Forgive us, O God, and teach us to boast only of you. Help us to celebrate when others seek after you. Give us the light of your wisdom and ways, through Christ our Lord. Amen. (A Moment of Silent Confession) Promise of God s Forgiveness One: Hear the good news of the gospel: All: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven, healed, and made whole. One: Know that we have been forgiven, and be at peace! All: The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting. Amen! *Congregational Response (Hymn #581) The Giving of our Tithes, Gifts & Selves to God - Offertory Congregational Response (Hymn #606) *Prayer of Dedication WE ENCOUNTER GOD S WORD Time for Children Jr. Sermon Susan Shockley Children ages 3 1 st Grade are invited to Junior Church after the Anthem; Worship Boards are on the front pew for older youth. Prayer for Illumination Almighty God, send your Spirit to open our hearts and minds as we listen to your word, hearing again of your holy mysteries and invitations to life, for the glory of your Kingdom. In Christ s name we pray. Amen. Scripture 1 st Reading: 1 Kings 3:4-28 p266 2 nd Reading: Matthew 6:9-10 p787 Sermon Whose Perspective? Rev. Jason N. Cashing *Reflective Hymn #465 What a Friend We Have in Jesus WE RESPOND TO GOD S WORD Affirmation of Faith We confess and acknowledge one God alone, to whom alone we must cleave, whom alone we must serve, whom only we must worship, and in whom alone we put our trust. Who is eternal, infinite, immeasurable, incomprehensible, omnipotent, invisible; one in substance yet distinct in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. By whom we confess and believe all things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, to have been created, to be retained in their being, and to be ruled and guided by his inscrutable providence for such end as his eternal wisdom, goodness, and justice have appointed, and to the manifestation of his own glory. Amen. (from The Scots Confession) Prayers of the People & The Lord s Prayer One: Lord, in your mercy, All: Hear our prayers. *Departing Hymn #772 Live into Hope *Blessing One: We have been blessed! All: We have met for divine worship, as God s people. One: We have been blessed! All: Our sins have truly been forgiven. One: We have been blessed! All: We go out into the world as the body of Christ, bearing the good news of the gospel. We are blessed, indeed. Amen!
