Please be aware of an email scam targeting Catholics all over the country. Parish members and staff are receiving an email request that looks to be from their Pastor. The email has the Pastor s name in it but it is not their real address. In the email is a request for a gift card from ITunes or similar to be given to a person in need. They may ask to have the numbers on the card sent to them or to an alternative address. This has happened all over the country and in our Diocese. Here is an article from the DC area that discussed the scam: https:// wtop.com/prince-william-county/2018/05/policescammers-imitate-priests-via-email-to-defraudarea-congregations/ And one from Tampa last week: https://shar.es/an4mwt Please be careful and always confirm the facts over the phone with your pastor to insure that you are not getting scammed. Catholic Messenger is a real value! Each week, The Catholic Messenger reflects the life of the church throughout the world with an emphasis on diocesan news, parishes and our Catholic schools. Learn how other Catholics are living out their faith and the joys and struggles that come with it. Keep informed as Bishop Thomas Zinkula shares teachings that inspire as well as educate. The Messenger is a real value at $29 for 50 issues, print and/or e-edition. Subscribe through the parish office. To parents of young children: May we suggest...relax! God put wiggle in children. Don t feel you have to suppress it in God s house. All are welcome! Sit towards the front where it is easier for your little ones to see and hear what is going on at the altar. They tire of seeing the backs of others! Quietly explain the parts of the Mass and actions of the priest, choir, and other ministers. Help them find the hymns and prayers in the hymnal or booklets. Sing the hymns, participate in the liturgy and pray. Children learn about worship and liturgical behavior by copying you. If you have top leave Mass with your child, feel free to do so, but please come back. As Jesus said, L et the children come to me Remember that the way we welcome children in Church directly affects the way we respond to the church, to God and top one another. Let them know that they are at home in His house of worship. To the members of our parish: The presence of children is a gift to the church and a reminder that our parish is growing. Please welcome our children and give a smile of encouragement to their parents.

The Sixth of the Seven Virtues...Diligence Practicing the virtue of Diligence will help us not fall victim to the Deadly Sins of Sloth, Acedia...aka laziness. Diligence in its most practical sense is having a good work ethic, believing that work is good in and of itself. It describes thoroughness, completeness, and persistence of action, particularly in matters of faith. In Christianity, diligence is about doing one's part while remaining faithful to God, acknowledging that our abilities and talents to do work, whatever it is, comes from Him. Diligence and faith are part of the same mystery. We don't know how, despite our effort, it all works out. But diligence when combined with faith assures spiritual success. We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, in order to make your hope sure. We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised. Hebrews 6:11-12 Thank you to Vonda at Vonda's Flowers and Gifts for her donation of flowers for our dedication. They added beautiful bursts of color to the rooms. Flowers add a beautiful, classy touch to tables and rooms. Thank you Vonda! St. Mary Singles, Widowed and Divorce Support Group will meet June 26th at 11:30 at the Comeback Cafe. For more information contact Rosemarie Vicinanza at 236-1941. $1,046 to go! The Annual Diocesan Appeal is an opportunity for us to be good stewards of God s gifts as we share with other Catholics our treasure and our blessings and show our love for one another. The ADA gives us the opportunity to act together as a family of faith and support the programs and services no single individual or parish can offer by themselves. Your gift is important. Every gift, regardless of size, is vital to the success of the Appeal. Your blood donation with LifeServe will help save your neighbor, a friend, family member or a stranger on the street in YOUR community. LifeServe s next donation date is THIS Tuesday June 19th in the Parish Center beginning at 12:30 pm. ONE OF MY FAVORITE SAINT STORIES EVER Twinkie! You haven t changed a bit! What's your secret!? Today is the feast of St. Anthony of Padua, and stories about him never cease to amaze me. Like this one: Once, upon entering a town hostile to the faith, city leaders ordered the people not to attend a single Mass or talk that Anthony would offer. Instead of leaving, though, Anthony walked over to a river and started preaching to the fish! Suddenly, thousands of fish popped their heads out of the water to listen. Our Annual Rummage Sale is NEXT week June 22nd & 23rd. We have created a Sign Up Genius for work needed for the sale. We have several rooms full of items to sell and will need people to be present in each room along with other duties before, during and after the sale. If you have questions, feel free to contact Crystal, Jan McFee or Mary Arensdorf about needs we have. Left over items will be sorted and boxed Monday, June 25th and taken to Second Mile and Goodwill in town. What they won t/can t take will be picked up by and donated to the Disabled Veterans Association in Des Moines. Talking about our faith is not always easy. Even for the greatest of saints, there were roadblocks along the way. When that happens, simply take a lesson from St. Anthony of Padua, and talk about your faith anyway. Friends, be confident in Christ's mercy and love.

Last weekend we held our Parish Council election and we wish to congratulate Renny Crawford, Brad Donohoe and Jennifer Williams on their election to the Parish Council! We also wish to extend appreciation and thanks to Jan Phelps and Deborah Schulte for throwing their hat into the ring as candidates. May God s choice blessings be upon you all! Fr. Ron's surgery will be on Friday, June 29 at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Dr. Pehde is the surgeon. He will likely be in the hospital over night, probably returning home on Saturday, June 30, depending on the pain level. Fr. Bill Wiegand will cover the weekend Masses on 6/30-7/1, and July 7-8. There will be no daily Mass those two weeks. Father expects to return to saying Mass on the weekend of July 14-15 and daily Mass will begin again on July 17. WE NEED HELP! We would love to be able to do the Country Store at the Markets BUT we NEED HELP. We are looking for items we might be able to sell and workers. Please contact me ( Crystal ) if you would be interested in donating Iowa made products and/or working at the booth. A Sign Up Genius link can be found on St. Mary s website for current/updated information. Contact Crystal with questions. The surgery will involve removing all of the hardware that has been put in his foot, fracturing it in several places, and using an external fixator to pull the bones back into place and secure them. He will be non-weight bearing on his left foot and will wear the external fixator for at least 10-12 weeks. Dr. Pehde said that Dr. McKnight did a good job in all that he has done. Thank you for all of your prayers and concern. Please keep the prayers coming. The patron saint of foot problems is St. Servatius of Tongeren if you'd like to pray for his intercession. Join us for Eucharist Adoration in the Church from 5:00pm to 6:00 pm on Wednesdays.
