Come, let us worship on this Children s Sabbath day with love, hope and justice. *SONG OF PRAISE Here in This Place Number 401 PRAYER OF CONFESSION Spencer Jackson God and Divine Parent of us all, we confess that our world does not fully reflect your love and justice. We know that you want all of your beloved children to be given every opportunity to grow and learn and become who you created them to be. Yet there is much that keeps us from creating the change you desire We think about child poverty and want to place blame or feel shame. We get overwhelmed and feel hopeless. We seek distractions or distance ourselves from other people s problems. But we know we are all your people. Forgive us, O God. Help us to turn in a new direction. Show us how to move forward working with faith, love, and hope, to end poverty and pursue justice, to create the world you intend. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, hope of the world. Amen. ASSURANCE OF GOD S LOVING FORGIVENESS Listen! I have something to say! God sent God s own child, Jesus, so that we may know that we are loved and forgiven children of God. This is the good news: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Thanks be to God. *SONG OF FAITH These Treasured Children, verse 3 Number 487 We long to trust as children do and so entrust our days to you; in their young lives we clearly see a lesson in humility. SCRIPTURE READINGS THE GOSPEL READING: Mark 9: 35-37 (New Living Translation) 35 Jesus sat down and called the disciples around him and said, Anyone wanting to be the greatest must be the least the servant of all! 36 Then he placed a little child among them; and taking the child in his arms he said to them, 37 Anyone who welcomes a little child like this in my name is welcoming me, and anyone who welcomes me is welcoming my Father who sent me! READING FROM THE PROPHETS: Jeremiah 31: 15-17 (New Revised Standard Translation) 15 Thus says the Lord: A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation and bitter weeping. Rachel is weeping for her children; she refuses to be comforted for her children, because they are no more. 16 Thus says the Lord: Keep your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears; for there is a reward for your work, says the Lord: they shall come back from the land of the enemy; 17 there is hope for your future, says the Lord: your children shall come back to their own country. PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Lord, as your children call out to you, Hear our prayer. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
