Anima Christi Soul of Christ, sanctify me; Body of Christ, save me; Blood of Christ, inebriate me; Water from the side of Christ, wash me; Passion of Christ, strengthen me; O good Jesus, hear me; Within your wounds hide me; Separated from you, let me never be; From the evil one protect me; At the hour of my death, call me; And close to you bid me; That with your saints, I may be, praising you forever and ever. Pastor s Notes THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST Each year after the Easter Season and Pentecost, the Church celebrates the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi). This is a special celebration to reflect on the great gift Jesus has given the Church: the gift of His real presence in the Eucharist. Jesus did not just leave us a set of miracle stories or a moral code; rather, by the reception of His Body and Blood, Christ unites us with Him while we live on earth, looking forward to being united with Him in Heaven. Spend some time today thanking our Lord Jesus for the way He has strengthened you by receiving Him in Holy Communion. CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR GRADUATES This spring we have many young people from our parish graduating from universities, high schools and grammar schools. Congratulations to all of our graduates. I ask for your prayers for all of them, that God bless and protect each one. Special congratulations to the School of St. Mary Class of 2016. I am proud to see how much they have grown and hope that they will keep growing in their love for Jesus and our Catholic faith. Thank you to the parents who do so much to support our school. Thank you to Dr. Biancalana, the teachers and staff, and all who support our excellent Catholic school. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION Peter Lesniewski, our Director of Religious Education for the past two years, will be departing from our staff this summer. We wish Peter every blessing in his new job connecting high school athletes with colleges. Peter has made a great impression not only on the youth in the Religious Education program, but also in the School of St. Mary, COR and SOL Youth Ministry and the Young Adult Ministry in Lake County. I am in discussion with our staff about providing good leadership for the catechetical program while working to fill the DRE position. If you have thoughts or ideas about the role of the Director of Religious Education, please contact Fr. Grzesik or Fr. Guilfoil. Thank you. MAKE IT MATTER Two years ago General Martin Dempsey gave the commencement address at Duke University. At one point in his speech he referred to a wooden box that rests on his desk in the Pentagon. The wooden box contains 129 small laminated pictures of soldiers under Dempsey s command who died in Baghdad in 2003 and 2004. On the box are inscribed three words: Make it matter. In the history of our nation, thousands of men and women in the armed services have sacrificed their lives so that we can live in a free country. As we observe Memorial Day, let s resolve to make their sacrifices matter: by the way we live as citizens, by the way we exercise our freedom, by our contribution to the common good, and by enriching our society by living our faith well. Make it matter. TRANSITION UPDATE This past week I wrote a letter to all parishioners about the change of pastors. I trust that by now most everyone on our mailing list has received the letter. Please note that the letter will also be posted on our website and includes my new contact information for after June 30. Also, please note that on the weekend of June 11 and 12, we have added a reception after the Sunday Noon Mass in addition to the reception on Saturday evening after the 5:00pm Mass. I am grateful for the opportunity to say "thank you and farewell" to the wonderful people of our parish. Please continue to keep me and Father Mike Nacius in your prayers as I continue to keep you in my daily prayers. In our Lord, Father Mike McGovern mmcgovern@archchicago.org
