QURBANI 1432 A.H. (2011)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY It is neither their meat nor their blood that reaches Allah, but it is piety from you that reaches Him Surah Hajj 22:37 The Prophet (saw) was asked, What is Qurbani? and he answered, It is the Sunnah of your father Ibrahim. For every hair of the Qurbani you receive a reward from Allah. Tirmidhi The blessed occasion of Qurbani (Udhiyya) is enjoyed by Muslims worldwide. Muslims celebrate the day of Qurbani of a healthy sheep, goat, buffalo or camel during the Islamic month of Zhul Hijjah, in pursuit of the Sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.) every year. Observance of this tradition is compulsory for Muslims. To bring cheer and joy amongst the destitute and needy in the society during the celebration of Eid-ul- Azha, the second most important festival of Muslims, is one of the main benefits of qurbani, but ultimate basic objective of qurbani is to invoke the spirit of self-sacrifice shown by Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.) and to submit oneself to the will of Allah. Due to the extreme poverty conditions experienced by our brothers and sisters in India, enjoying a meal comprising of meat is considered a luxury. Human Welfare Trust (HWT) each year performs Qurbani on behalf of its supporters/well wishers and distributes meat in the areas where the need is greatest. Altogether 56,952 people, including widows, children, orphans, destitute, aged and disabled people from Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and other north Indian states, benefitted from this project worth INR 17.32 Millions during the last three years. The beneficiaries were selected with an active support of the local humanitarian organisations and community leaders. More than 1,34,500 kilograms of buffalo and goat meat was distributed. The distribution of qurbani meat was made in strict compliance to the Islamic injunctions. A just and equitable distribution of qurbani meat has enhanced the HWT s trust, respect and networking in different stakeholders alongside helping underprivileged households enjoy the happy moments of the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Azha by providing them enough meat for three days. 2 Qurbani 1432 A.
