Lynch PGK 732-269-4405 Dear Brother Knights: May and June, 2010 GRAND KNIGHT S REPORT Another Fraternal Year is coming to a close and as I look back, I must say that it has been quite an experience to say the least. I'd like to thank everyone for electing me to serve as your Grand Knight and if I had the opportunity to do this again, to be honest with you, I would have to think about it, although I can say that if I did, I would know a lot more than I did when I first started, as this has been a learning experience for me. On a positive note we started our officers meetings again, we got our newsletter back, we started our first degree team again, which by the way, the team is doing a phenomenal job. Also our golf tournament will be back in July. Our summer concert series went as good as ever, our Knight at the Races was better than ever, and although we won't make star council this year we gained eight new brothers whom I am happy to welcome into our council. Unfortunately on a sadder note we've lost four of our brothers, Val Kornak, Dave Brittanik, John Kelly, and Ralph Hodges who helped bring our council to where it is today, united in charity, unity, and fraternity. Also let us keep in our prayers brother John Taylor who I miss very much and is continuing to improve. I would like to thank all our brothers who helped out at out at our annual tootsie roll drive for God s Special Children and our membership drive. A total of $1050.00 was collected which will be donated to the Arc of Ocean County. Let me close with this quote I saw once at a Wawa." Better a has been than a never was, but better a never was than a never tried to be." I would like to wish our new slate of officers all the best in the coming fraternal year. Vivat Jesus, Vincent Eckersley Grand Knight

Chaplin s Report Dear Brother Knights, This is the last letter I will be writing to all of you as your Chaplain. As many of you are aware, I have been asked by the Bishop to serve in the Parish of St. James in Red Bank beginning June 18th. My last Mass here at St. Barnabas will be June 13th at the 12 Noon Mass and there will be reception to follow. It will be a great joy to celebrate Mass with you one more time before I go. It has been a great blessing to serve in this Community and a great honor to be your Chaplain. Your dedication and love for the Church is an inspiration and I have greatly valued your support throughout my three years. As I leave you this final letter, please remember to keep the example of Fr. McGivney and all those first Knights ever at the forefront of your hearts and minds. They are for us wonderful examples of what it means to live as Catholic men in the midst of a world that is often unfriendly to the values of Christ and His Church. Be steadfast, always love the gift of the Church with which God has so greatly blessed us. Hold onto your identity as Knights, continue to stand by your priests as you have so generously stood by me. Set no limits on the love you show them and on all your Catholic brothers and sisters. Continue to be witnesses to the presence of Christ's deep and abiding love for all of us (even and especially when it is most difficult). Do this, and the gift of paradise is yours! I will remember each of you in my thoughts and prayers always. With much love and affection, Fr. Alberto Tamayo Chaplain Baptism Procedure 1- All babies receive gifts at the first Sunday mass. 2- Members of K of C St. Barnabas Council #8603 and their immediate families who have a baptism at the St. Barnabas Church, Bayville, NJ in a private ceremony will receive gifts at the ceremony provided that the Brother Knight gives the Council two weeks notice. Should the Brother Knight fail to give the Council two weeks notice the gifts will not be presented at the ceremony but can be picked up at the Parish Office when they are ready. 3- Members of K of C St. Barnabas Council #8603 and their immediate families who have a baptism at a church other then the St. Barnabas Church, Bayville, NJ can pick up their gifts at the Parish Office provided that the Brother Knight gives the Council two weeks notice.

Hospitalized Brothers If you know of a Brother Knight from Council # 8603 who has been hospitalized for three days or more, please contact George Vogt at 732-269-2916 so we can present him with our Council 8603 robe. INSURANCE CORNER This is a copy if a letter received by our Grand Knight. CONGRATULATIONS JIM Dear Worthy Grand Knight: I am very pleased to announce that your Field Agent, James Castrovilly was named the Agent of the Month for the month of April, 2010 in the McGeehan Agency. Our agency currently has 17 full-time agents servicing over 15,000 Brother Knights in southern New Jersey and Delaware. I am sure your members will join me in congratulating Jim on his accomplishments and wish him continued success in helping our Brother Knights protect their families in your council. Fraternally, Robert J. McGeehan NAME THE NEWSLETTER Bumper Sticker of the Month

Veteran s News Less than two weeks after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that, for now, the Mojave Desert cross could remain in its location, vandals have torn the memorial to World War I veterans down from its location, leaving only the bolts in Sunrise Rock as evidence of the cross. The incident sparked outrage among supporters of the cross, including The American Legion, which filed crucial amicus (friend-of-the-court) brief in favor of the cross staying put. "Reports that the Mojave Cross was illegally removed overnight are very disturbing," American Legion National Commander Clarence Hill said. "The American Legion expects whoever is responsible for this vile act to be brought to justice. While the memorial has been attacked, the fight will continue to ensure that veterans memorials will remain sacrosanct." The act also drew scorn from Liberty Institute, which has represented the Legion and other organizations in the fight to keep the cross in its current location. "This is an outrage, akin to desecrating people's graves," said Kelly Shackelford, president/ceo of Liberty Institute. "It's a disgraceful attack on the selfless sacrifice of our veterans. We will not rest until this memorial is reinstalled." Park workers noticed on Saturday that the box that has covered the cross during the ongoing lawsuit had been removed. "When a maintenance team went out on Monday to put the box back up, that's when they discovered the cross had been removed," said Linda Slater, public affairs officer for the Mojave National Preserve. "The bolts are still in the ground, but the cross itself is gone." Park law enforcement is investigating this crime and is asking for the public's assistance. Liberty Institute is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call (760) 252-6120. John J. Gallagher Scholarship Congratulations to Mary Beth Kornak as this year s winner of the John J. Gallagher Scholarship. Mary Beth will graduate from Monsignor Donovan High School and attend Delaware Valley College in the fall. Mary Beth will receive the award after the 10:00 AM Mass on June 27 th, 2010 Due to the high cost of having the News Letter printed and mailed to our members starting with the July 2010 issue we will be sending out the News Letter quarterly. Sending out the News Letter by email has reduced the cost but less than half of our members receive it by email.
