Vol 35, No 4 Oct ober 2017 New s of Unidos en Crist o Minnesot a CONVENOR'S CORNER By Cat hy Colm an (convenor@unidosencrist o) Fall is always a time of transition. I think we are so conditioned to the start of school, or the start of a new church year of activities etc, that we tend to expect something new and different each fall, yet sometimes what we see is more of the same. It was a busy summer for me of traveling back and forth to care for and help my mother who has several health issues. As I talk with friends and acquaintances I find that is not unusual and we all are bearing burdens and challenges of some kind. Therefore facing?more of the same? can feel daunting. I am reminded of Paul?s writing to the Corinthians:?This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone, a new life has begun!? It reminds me that each day and each season is a new one. God has a plan and a purpose for each of us and is teaching us anew in each season of our lives. He is walking the path alongside of us no matter what we face. So I am encouraged and look forward to facing whatever comes my way knowing the Lord is by my side! I hope you are too! Council Recognit ions I?d like to take some time to recognize a number of Council members who have served faithfully on Council over the last few years. God has used them mightily in their roles on Council. We will miss them and trust God will continue to use them according to his plan: - Tim Powell, Convenor Advisor - Pastor Mary Syrja, Clergy Coordinator - Julie du Lac, Treasurer - Steve Staloch, Leadership Development - Bonnie Clawson, Leadership Training - Sara VanderBent, Church Liaison Coordinator The following Council members will continue on Council but are transitioning to new roles. We thank them for their continued service on UEC Council: - Kathy Messerli, Convenor to Convenor Advisor - Mari-Lynn O?Brien, Member-at-Large to Co-Convenor - Jerry Low, Member-at-Large to Leadership Training We also welcome enthusiastically the following new Council members and look forward with joy to their gifts and talents on Council: - Pastor Rosemary Wood-Klass, Clergy Coordinator - Karen Wilson, Treasurer - Dan Everson, Leadership Development - Jen Severson, Church Liaison Coordinator Palanca Press Page 1

Convenor 's Corner Cont inued There are many devoted and dedicated servants who work behind the scenes to make the UEC ministry and weekends a reality. I?d like to thank all of you for your hours of dedication in service, in prayer, in sponsorship and reaching out to so many with love and grace! We are truly a community United in Christ! A special thank you to two new Council support people working on our database team: Brad Ziegler and Marie Wilson. Please also welcome, Lisa Robertson, who is joining our manuals team with Bonnie Clawson and Barb Laidlaw. Bonnie and Pastor Mary have agreed to continue to be involved with our Day 2 training as assistants to our Council Training coordinators. Our convening team is in the process of reaching out to all of our Council Support roles to get feedback and input as well as confirm their ability to continue in their roles. Please continue to be in prayer for the upcoming November weekends. For the weekenders to come, sponsors to invite, for the team in preparation and for the Holy Spirit to be at work in all. Please also pray for the January teams that are forming. Pray for your Council and support team. We covet your prayers. It is through the prayers of the faithful that God works. Psalm 65:5?You faithfully answer our prayers with awesome deeds, O God our Savior. You are the hope of everyone on earth, even those who sail on distant seas? WEEKEND HIGHLIGHTS UEC Weekends #287 and #288 Rochester Evangel Church 2645 North Broadway Rochester, MN 55906 As always, watch for the 4th Day signs directing to the proper entry door. When God kept placing 1 Peter 5:7 "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." in front of me while preparing for the weekend I knew this was the weekend verse and that it wasn't going to be easy. During the weekend there were a variety of things came up making this an interesting weekend from weekenders wanting to leave, team members not feeling well (me included), plumbing problems at the church, to an overall feeling of heaviness in the church and T h e peace of God, which tr an scen ds all un der stan din g, w ill guar d your h ear ts that's when I knew God was doing GREAT things. Throughout the weekend I was constantly reminded that God was in control and to "Let it be". God used everything from humor and music to palanca & rollos to remind all of us that he cares for us. As the weekend unfolded God placed special anmoments d m in ds. for me to stop, watch, and see how he was orchestrating everything. During this journey, God has stretched me and used me in ways I didn't think possible. It was such a blessing and honor to serve HIM in this way. Ph ilippian s 4:7 Palanca Press Page 2
