Retrouvaille Weekend Retrouvaille will be held on January 20th-22nd in the Acadiana area. Retrouvaille is a ministry for couples in troubled marriages. Retrouvaille is French for rediscovery or reawakening. You may be more familiar with marriage encounter, which is intended to enrich good, stable marriages. Retrouvaille is more like a lifeline for troubled or broken marriages and hurting couples. It is for married couples who are anxious about their marriage, alone or distant from their partner, disillusioned or bored in their marriage, or who are experiencing coldness or conflict. Locally, Retrouvaille of Acadiana hosts 3 weekends per year followed by the six post-weekend sessions on Sunday afternoons. The weekends involve intensive work on communication skills and provide the foundation for the forgiveness and trust essential for rebuilding broken marriages. The six post-sessions frame up the concepts and provide practical solutions such as a method to resolve conflicts in a way that avoids the hurts of the past. Retrouvaille is a peer ministry, meaning that all of the presenting couples are past attendees who came to Retrouvaille with marriages in trouble and who have firsthand experience of the benefits that can result. Retrouvaille is a Catholic ministry and encourages individual and spiritual growth and the ultimate goal is to reinstall in hurting couples the joy and satisfaction of sacramental marriage. Life Teen We have Life Teen next Sunday November 27th after the 5:30pm mass in the Family Life Center. ALL 9th-12th graders welcome. What is EDGE? Edge is a Catholic middle school youth ministry program. It provides a safe fun place for youth to find solid Catholic community, to get answers to their questions about faith, and, most importantly, to experience Jesus in a profound and personal way. Edge speaks to the physical, psychological, cognitive, relational, and spiritual maturation of middle school youth. Edge nights present Catholic teachings in a way that young people can understand. At Edge we build a foundation of faith in fun, transformative, dynamic ways which will pave the way for the growth of your middle school student. Edge is youth group for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. It doesn t matter whether or not you already attend Catholic school, home school, or public school. All junior high age students are welcome! To register your middle school student in the Edge program and for a calendar of events please visit the parish website at stjoerayne.org/registrations Youth Spotlight Even though I m a fairly new member of Rayne Life Teen, I can say without a doubt I have definitely found a new home. Of course, this all started when our little Iota crew tagged along for the Steubenville 2016 retreat this summer, and we were so thankful that Rayne Life Teen took us in! It was such an amazing experience and we seemed to fit right in. Everyone was so welcoming! Ever since I officially joined youth group, it has been a true blessing. It s great knowing that there s a place where other teens like me are seeking out God s will for their lives, and long for a relationship with our Lord. I love that it s a place where I know I can be accepted as I am, a daughter of Christ. True joy has entered my heart and I am so blessed and grateful to Rayne Life Teen for giving me that. God is good! ~Corinne Fruge Church Humor High School & Jr. High Ministry You are always welcome! It s never too late to sign up for Youth Ministry. Registration for EDGE and Life Teen is OPEN. All High School and Jr. High students welcome. Registration is available online at: stjoerayne.org/registrations

Guard Your Hope Pope Francis We Christians are to guard and take care of our hope, and not be swayed by show or entertainment religion that constantly seeks novelty and revelations. According to Vatican Radio, during his morning Mass at Casa Santa Marta today, Francis made these exhortions, comparing this type of religion to fireworks that provide us with a fleeting brightness before dying. The Holy Father drew his inspiration from today s readings about Jesus reply to the Pharisees question on when the Kingdom of God would come and he stressed how Christians must guard hope every day whilst waiting for the fullness of the Kingdom. Francis compared Jesus telling the Pharisees the Kingdom of God is among you, to a small seed that is planted and grows on its own over time. Without drawing attention to it, God helps the seed grow. The Kingdom of God is not a show religion: one that is always seeking new things, revelations, messages, Francis stressed, reminding those present that God spoke through Jesus Christ: this is the last Word of God. The other one is like fireworks that lit you up for a moment and then what is left behind? Nothing. There is no growth, there is no light, there s nothing: just an instant. And we have been tempted many times by this entertainment religion of seeking things that are extraneous to the revelation, to the meekness of the Kingdom of God that is among us and which grows. However, the Pope pointed out, this is not about hope, but about the desire to have something in our hands. Our salvation comes from hope, the hope of a man who sows the seed or the woman who makes the bread, mixing yeast and flour: a hope that grows. Instead, this artificial brightness only lasts an instant and then it dies away, like fireworks: they are not needed for giving light to a house. It s just a show. Francis then asked those present to think about what should we do as we wait for the fullness of the Kingdom of God, and recommended we must guard and take care of our hope. Asking what we should do whilst awaiting the fullness of the Kingdom of God, Pope Francis explained that we must guard and take care of our hope. Guard it with patience. Patience in our work, in our sufferings Guarding it like the man who has planted a seed and who takes care of the plant, ensuring there are no weeds close to it, so it will grow. Guard our hope. He then put some questions to those present: If the Kingdom of God is among us today, if all of us have this seed inside us, if we have the Holy Spirit there, how do I guard it? How do I discern this, how can I discern the good plant from the seed of the darnel? The Kingdom of God grows and what must we do? Guard it, he answered. Grow through hope and guard that hope. Because we have been saved through hope. And this is the thread: hope is the thread in the history of salvation. Our hope of meeting the Lord for sure. Hope, he explained, is what strengthens the Kingdom. Let us ask ourselves: Do I have hope? Or do I go ahead as best I can without knowing how to tell the good from the bad, the darnel seed, the light, the meek light of the Holy Spirit from the brightness of this artificial thing? Let us ask ourselves about our hope in this seed that is growing inside us and on how to guard our hope. The Kingdom of God is among us, the Pope reaffirmed, but we must, through rest, work, discernment, guard the hope of this Kingdom of God that grows until the time when the Lord will come and everything will be transformed. In a brief moment: everything! The world, us, everything will be transformed, Pope Francis stressed, noting that as Paul said to the Christians of Thessalonica, We shall be with the Lord for ever.
