L a ke of the I sles Lutheran Church Commemoration of St. Luke the Evangelist Healing and Prayer Service October 21, 2018 St. Luke is traditionally identified as the author of both the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles. Many scholars believe that Luke was a physician who lived in the Greek city of Antioch in Ancient Syria. His feast day is commemorated on October 18 th. Inspired by Christ, living and growing in faith, we are a loving and open community of worship, witness, and service in God s world.

Gathering Following the call of God s Spirit, the community of faith gathers, welcoming one another and praying for God s mercy to fill the church and the world. We invite you to use the prelude time to prepare your heart and mind for worship. Prelude Welcome Call to Worship Gathering Hymn Apostolic Greeting Prayer of the Day Please be seated. Adagio from Sonata I in F Improvisation F. Mendelssohn Psalm 96 Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth. Sing to the LORD, bless the name of the LORD; proclaim God s salvation from day to day. Declare God s glory among the nations and God s wonders among all peoples. For great is the LORD and greatly to be praised, more to be feared than all gods. Worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness; tremble before the LORD, all the earth. Tell it out among the nations: The LORD is king! The one who made the world so firm that it cannot be moved will judge the peoples with equity. Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea thunder and all that is in it; let the field be joyful and all that is therein. Then shall all the trees of the wood shout for joy at your coming, O LORD, for you come to judge the earth. You will judge the world with righteousness and the peoples with your truth. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit As it was in the beginning is now and will be forever. Amen Great is Thy Faithfulness ELW #733 P: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. C: And also with you. Sovereign God, raise your throne in our hearts. Created by you, let us live in your image; created for you, let us act for your glory; redeemed by you, let us give you what is yours, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. Presentation Profession of Faith P: I ask you to profess your faith in Christ Jesus, reject sin, and confess the faith of the church. Do you renounce of evil, the devil and all his empty promises? C: I do P: Do you believe in God the Father? C: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. P: Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God? C: I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. P: Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit? C: I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Keeping their distance, 13 they called out, saying, "Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!" 14 When he saw them, he said to them, "Go and show yourselves to the priests." And as they went, they were made clean. 15 Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. 16 He prostrated himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him. And he was a Samaritan. 17 Then Jesus asked, "Were not ten made clean? But the other nine, where are they? 18 Was none of them found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?" 19 Then he said to him, "Get up and go on your way; your faith has made you well."
