We are called to embrace diversity and to connect all generations to God s family. July 22, :00 am WELCOME TO TRINITY! NURSERY Childcare for infants through kindergarten age is available during worship in Room 124. ACTIVITY & AUTISM BAGS Children s activity bags and autism bags are available to help your child keep his/her hands busy during worship. Pick one up in the lobby and return after worship. We re so glad that you will be a part of our worshiping community of faith today. In addition to this worship folder, you will need a red Evangelical Lutheran Worship (ELW) Book, located in the rack in front of you, where you will find the hymns. Singing together as a community is an important part of our Lutheran heritage, and so we encourage strong participation! Pick up a green Next Step card, also found in the rack, to share your special concerns, prayer requests, questions about Trinity, etc. If you are a visitor, please complete the Next Steps card and take it to the Welcome Desk, located in the Lobby, to receive a Welcome Packet. SIGHT IMPAIRED Magnifiers are available at the Welcome Desk in the Lobby. HEARING IMPAIRED Interpreter is available during our 9:00 am service only. Reserved seating first row on the font side. FELLOWSHIP Please join us after worship for coffee and conversation in Hyson Hall on Sunday mornings. 9TH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST Mark s gospel makes clear how great was the press of the crowd, with its countless needs to be met, on Jesus and his disciples. Yet in today s gospel Jesus advises his disciples to get away and rest, to take care of themselves. Sometimes we think that when others are in great need we shouldn't think of ourselves at all; but Jesus also honors the caregivers need. We are sent from Christ s table to care for others and for ourselves W. Main Street, Lansdale, PA trinitylansdale.com
GATHERING The Holy Spirit calls us together as the people of God. PRELUDE Emily Brands Shine, Jesus Shine Graham Kendrick Refrain Shine, Jesus shine, fill this land with the Father s glory; blaze, Spirit blaze, set our hearts on fire. Flow, river flow, flood the nations with grace and mercy; send forth your Word, Lord, and let there be light! 1. Lord, the light of your love is shining, in the midst of the darkness, shining; Jesus, light of the world, shine upon us, set us free by the truth you now bring us. Shine on me, shine on me. R 2. As we gaze on your kingly brightness, so our faces display your likeness, ever changing from glory to glory, mirrored here, may our lives tell your story. Shine on me, shine on me. R WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS The Lutheran Order for Worship has a basic pattern Gather, Word, Meal, Send offering a structure that allows for flexibility. Within the order, there are both essential and nonessential elements. It may be interesting to note that the Greeting and Prayer of the Day are the only essential elements in the Gathering. CALL TO WORSHIP We come to worship God in our need, bringing with us the needs of the world. We come to God, who comes to us in Jesus, who knows by experience what human life is like. We come with our faith and with our doubts, we come with our hopes and with our fears. We come as we are because it is God who invites us to come, and God has promised never to turn us away. HYMN OF PRAISE 2
GREETING The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. PRAYER OF THE DAY O God, powerful and compassionate, you shepherd your people, faithfully feeding and protecting us. Heal each of us, and make us a whole people, that we may embody the justice and peace of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. Please be seated. The Prayer of the Day or Collect, meaning the gathering of the people together is a short prayer that has a very specific structure of five parts: The Invocation or address (usually God the Father), the Acknowledgement (description of the Divine), the Petition, Aspiration (the desired result), and the Conclusion. All this is done while tying in the theme of the Scriptures for the day. WORD God speaks to us in scripture reading, preaching, and song. READING Ephesians 2:11-22 Response after the conclusion of the reading: Thanks be to God. GOSPEL ACCLAMATION The author of this letter is reminding his audience that originally they were not part of God s chosen people. Through Jesus death, however, they are included in God s household of faith, whose cornerstone is Jesus Christ. 3
GOSPEL Mark 6:30-34, Biblical Story teller: Lyn Dimmig Response after the announcement: Glory to you, O Lord. Response after the conclusion: Praise to you, O Christ. When Jesus sent his disciples out to teach and heal, they ministered among large numbers of people. Their work was motivated by Christ s desire to be among those in need. CHILDREN S SERMON SERMON Please stand. HYMN OF THE DAY 768 APOSTLES CREED I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. Pastor Chris Glod Lead Me, Guide Me I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION We join singing after each portion of the prayers: PEACE The peace of Christ be with you always. And also with you. The people greet one another with a sign of Christ's peace, saying, Peace be with you. Please be seated. 4
MEAL God feeds us with the presence of Jesus Christ. GATHERING OF GIFTS An offering is gathered for the mission of the church, including the care of those in need. MUSICAL OFFERING Carina Calvaresi, Noelle and Quira Crosby We Are Blessed by Andrea Ramsey SUNG RESPONSE OFFERING PRAYER The prayer concludes: we pray this through Christ our Lord. Amen. THE TABLE This is the table where everyone is welcome. This is the victory feast of God. It is Jesus Christ who is the Lamb of God, whose blood set us free to be people of God. All power, riches, wisdom, strength, honor, blessing, and glory are his. Alleluia! You lead us from death to life; from captivity to freedom. You lead us from the bondage of sin to eternal life. In this sacrament, you deliver us from sin and death, and remind us of the great feast at the end of time when you will come again. Just as we come to the table with gifts of our own wealth, so also we bring the fruits of the earth and human labor in bread and cup. These gifts also remind us that God is the true owner of all that we might claim. 5
HOLY, HOLY, HOLY The Eucharistic Prayer helps to make room for us to imagine justice and peace even where none seems possible. Most of all, it prepares us for the meal, awakening us to Christ s presence and the Spirit s activity in our midst. Taken from The Work of the People, What We Do in Worship and Why by Marlea Gilbert. EUCHARISTIC PRAYER + WORDS OF INSTITUTION The presiding minister continues. LORD'S PRAYER Our Lord Jesus Christ, present in this meal, invites you to His table. All are invited to come forward to receive the Sacrament. Communion is celebrated by intinction. Receive the wafer in your open palm and then dip it in the wine. 6
INVITATION TO COMMUNION + COMMUNION Please be seated. LAMB OF GOD Grape juice and glutenfree wafers are available for those with dietary restrictions. If you would like communion brought to you, please inform an usher. When giving the bread and cup, the communion ministers say: The body of Christ, given for you. The blood of Christ, shed for you and each person may respond Amen. COMMUNION MUSIC Hymn 496 Hymn 592 One Bread, One Body Just As I Am, Without One Plea Please stand. TABLE BLESSING The body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen you and keep you in his grace. Amen. 7
PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION The prayer concludes: for you are Lord forevermore. Amen. SENDING God blesses us and sends us in mission to the world. SENDING OF EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS BLESSING Response: Amen. SENDING HYMN Rejoice in the Mission Refrain: And we ll all share the vision, who in Christ we all shall be. Come, rejoice in the mission of a new community. In this place where we gather, Jesus still our restless souls; to your Spirit we will listen. We will go. Oh, the Lord came down from heav n, tiny baby, great physician, gave his body and his blood to live out a holy mission. His disciples, they went out to fulfill the great commission; with a seed of faith so small, learned a diff rent kind of fishin. Will we go? R As we ponder and we plan in this age of great transition, we will keep the word of God at the heart of each decision. Praise the Father, Lord of love; praise the Christ, in glory risen; praise the Spirit, by whose pow r we will share the gifts we re given as we go. R DISMISSAL We are called to embrace diversity. We are called to connect all generations to God s family. Go then, as called disciples, to make visible the Kingdom of God. Thanks be to God! Copyright 2018 Augsburg Fortress. All rights reserved.
