Holy Spirit Catholic Church July 22, 2018 From The Desk of Father Eugene Feedback from the Mission The twelve had returned from the mission to preach repentance, drive out demons, and to anoint with oil those who were sick and cured them. Now they returned to give a report to Jesus. "The apostles gathered together with Jesus and reported all they had done and taught." (Mk: 6:30). Mark, being content with presenting Jesus as the Messiah, felt there was no need for details. That is why he was not interested in the family history of Jesus, either. To present the almighty Christ and his works are enough. Luke (10:17) gave us a little detail that when the seventy-two returned from their mission; they narrated how the demons were falling when they mentioned the name of Jesus. They rejoiced that they were able to cure the sick, and the demons subject to them. Jesus advised them to rejoice rather that their names are written in the book of life. They would get a feedback after their report. The feedback was to find more people flocking to them. So, the mission goes on. There is a practice among the Legion of Mary members whereby each member would recount during their weekly prayer meeting their Christian deeds ranging from evangelization to acts of charity that a member had performed during the week. The secretary notes all these down in the minutes. This is a way for each to be accountable to the call to live like a Christian on daily and weekly basis. These actions go into the book of deeds, as do all our good deeds, and by God's grace, our names go into the book of life. Jesus called the twelve to a deserted place to get some rest but the crowd could not stop coming. When he saw them, his heart was moved with pity for they were like sheep without a shepherd, and he began to teach them. Jesus is the good shepherd who was to come according to the prophets from the house of David. Previous shepherds were wicked and self-serving. Unlike the shepherds in the prophecy of Jeremiah who scatter the sheep, the Shepherd from the line of David would gather the flock, protect, restore, and heal those who were injured. There would be clean break between the failed and disappointing past and a future filled with new hope and promise. The imagery of shepherds was in reference to Kings who mistreated and abused their people, but the true shepherd who would even lay down his life for his people would come from the line of David. St. Paul reminds us that Jesus did tear down the wall of division and hostility through the cross, and putting that enmity to death. The purpose is to create One new person in place of two: One family of God. Jesus heart was moved with pity, and so are we called to be moved with pity, and be agents of God s mercy and compassion in our world torn apart by evil, hatred, and hostility. Matthew enjoins Christians To let your light so shine, before others, that they may see your good deeds, and glorify your heavenly Father. Matt: 5:16. Holy Spirit Catholic Church July 22, 2018.that FAITH FORMATION REGISTRATION is current underway, that s what! General Registration for the upcoming 2018/19 Faith Formation year continues through the months of July & August. You can contact Deborah, Devyn, Lindee or Lisa with any questions regarding Children s Faith Formation, Youth Ministry, First Communion/Confirmation preparation or RCIA. Just a reminder that a minimum payment of 50% is required for all new paperwork with the balance due by August 1 in order for your child to be placed on a class roster. Reminder statements have already been mailed so that you don t forget! Please don t wait till the last minute.it s so hard for us to plan for the appropriate number of classes needed and ensure we have the proper number of trained, SEP screened adult catechists available and ready to go if we re inundated at the end of August. Sometimes, we simply can t do it, and FYI the 11:00 Faith Formation time slot is filling up fast. Also, you have to pay your balance in full at the time of registration if you wait till August. So don t delay! You can pick up registration paperwork during the normal work week, Monday-Thursday between 10 a.m. & 4 p.m. (please, no FRIDAYS; it s our short, clean-up day). However, if these hours are not doable due to work schedules, please give our office a call so that we can work out other arrangements. Also, due to vacation schedules (since July is our only downtime), please feel free to contact the Faith Formation Office before heading over to ensure we are actually in the office to help you with your paperwork. On-Site Faith Formation registration will take place on Sunday, August 5 and Sunday, August 12 after all the MORNING masses in the dining room. We will have food & fellowship, courtesy of Community Life! On Sunday, August 5 at all the weekend Masses, there will be a special blessing of school backpacks! Children are invited to bring their school backpacks to Mass and Father will bless both the children and the backpacks for a special send-off before the new school year begins! For those of you without backpacks, we will have a few on-hand to distribute. Please contact Tammie in our Outreach Ministry for backpack and school supply assistance. Additionally, all school educators will be given a special blessing as they, too, begin a new school year. Additionally, please join us in the dining room after the 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Masses for an ice cream social and meet some of your fellow classmates and parishioners. And, if you haven t already signed up for Faith Formation classes, we ll be on-site registering for the upcoming year after all the MORNING Masses. Top Two Reasons to help out in Children s Faith Formation: (1) Help Nourish the Faith of Children The most important reason to get involved is so that we can help nourish the faith in children. If we don t get involved, who will teach them and prepare them to be active members in the parish as they grow? and (2) Meet Wonderful People I have met many wonderful people. If all I did was come to Mass, all I would know would be faces in the crowd. If you don t have children in the program, it is a great way to meet other spiritual people and become more involved in the activities and community of the parish. We provide you with training, materials and support; some classes only require a second adult aide, which actually means no teaching. Classes begin on Sunday, August 26. If you re interested in serving in our children s ministry or just want more information, contact Deborah!
