Child of JOHN TERRY and MARY WHITE is: 2. i. STEPHEN 2 TERRY, b. August 25, 1608, Stockton, Wiltshire, England; d. September 1668, Hadley, Mass.. Generation No. 2 2. STEPHEN 2 TERRY (JOHN 1 ) 7 was born August 25, 1608 in Stockton, Wiltshire, England 8,9, and died September 1668 in Hadley, Mass. 10,11. He married ELIZABETH 12 1634 in Dorchester, Mass. 13. Child of STEPHEN TERRY and ELIZABETH is: 3. i. SAMUEL 3 TERRY, b. April 1632, Barnet, England; d. Bef. September 08, 1730, probably Enfield, Massachusetts Bay Province. Generation No. 3 3. SAMUEL 3 TERRY (STEPHEN 2, JOHN 1 ) 14,15,16 was born April 1632 in Barnet, England 17,18, and died Bef. September 08, 1730 in probably Enfield, Massachusetts Bay Province 19,20. He married ANNA LOBDELL 21,22 January 03, 1660/61 in Springfield, Massachusetts Bay Colony 23,24, daughter of NICHOLAS LOBDELL and JANE. She was born 1625 in Northam, Devon, England 25, and died May 15, 1684 in Springfield, Mass. 25. Notes for SAMUEL TERRY: Samuel Terry came over from England to the Massachusetts in 1650 in company wit h William Pynchon, and the two were among the planters of Springfield. It is r ecorded that in 1654 Samuel Terry was granted ten acres of land on Chicopee Pla in. He married Ann Lobdell of Springfield in 1660; they had ten children, one of which was stillborn and two of which died young. The eldest, SAMUEL TERRY, JR. (see #168) was a founder of the town of Enfield, eleven miles downriver fro m Springfield, at that time (1683) still within the bounds of the Massachusetts Bay Colony but later to become (in 1750) part of Connecticut Colony. Record s from the town of Springfield show the marriage of "Samll Terry widdower & Wid dow Sarah Scot" on Nov. 19, 1690. Sarah died in 1705, presumably in Enfield to where it is presumed she and Samuel removed in or shortly after 1700.[2836643.FTW] Samuel Terry came over from England to the Massachusetts in 1650 in company wit h William Pynchon, and the two were among the planters of Springfield. It is r ecorded that in 1654 Samuel Terry was granted ten acres of land on Chicopee Pla in. He married Ann Lobdell of Springfield in 1660; they had nine children, one of which was stillborn and three of which died young. The eldest, SAMUEL TERR Y, JR. Ann Lobdell died in 1684 and records from the town of Springfield show the marriag e of "Samll Terry widdower & Widdow Sarah Scot" on Nov. 19, 1690. It may be pr esumed this was not a satisfactory union, as the following court record suggest s: "Upon ye Petition of Sarah Terry ye Wife of Samll Terry who hath now abse nted himself & Left her in a helpless & distressed condition the sd Terry havin g not left her a sufficient nor no ways Supplys out of his Estate Comfortable & In as much as sd Terry in his wives Right hath administred on her first Husban ds Estate without 1

Dec. 26 1694 The Power of Administration Confirmed and granted as above sd John Pynchon" Enfield records show Samuel Terry in that settlement in or sh ortly after 1700. Sarah died in 1705, perhaps in Enfield with her husband, per haps not. Samuel lived into his early nineties. More About SAMUEL TERRY: Record Change: October 13, 2003 26 Notes for ANNA LOBDELL: Ann Lobdell's marriage to Samuel Terry is recorded in John Pynchon's book of bi rths, marriages, and deaths in Hampshire County (Hampshire was the original nam e of the county in which Springfield was situate). The date of the marriage is written "3d 11th mon: 1660." In today's Gregorian calendar, this translates a s January 3, 1661, since the Julian calendar of colonial days had the beginning of each year on or about the 24th of March. John Pynchon was the son of Willi am, the Springfield planter, and he served as a magistrate of Springfield from 1652 until his death fifty years later.[2836643.ftw] Ann Lobdell appears to have immigrated in 1645 as a young girl from Herefordshi re in the west of England, along with her brother, Simon, and elder sister, Eli zabeth. Simon immediately removed to Milford in Connecticut Colony and Ann and Elizabeth remained in Boston. In 1651, still in Boston, sister Elizabeth marr ied Jonathan Burt, son of Henry Burt and brother of Nathaniel Burt, both of who m will be found elsewhere in this compilation (#s 1480 and 740, respectively). It is presumed Ann went with her sister and brother-in-law to Springfield Plan tation because it is there that she married Samuel Terry in 1661. Ann Lobdel l's marriage to Samuel Terry is recorded in John Pynchon's book* of births, mar riages, and deaths in Hampshire County (Hampshire was the original name of the county in which Springfield was situate). The date of the marriage is written "3d 11th mon: 1660." In today's Gregorian calendar, this translates as January 3, 1661, since the Julian calendar of colonial days had the beginning of each year on or about the 24th of March. SAMUEL, Jr. (see #168) was the first of nine children of Ann Lobdell and Samuel Terry, of which at least three died you ng. SAMUEL, Jr.'s birth was attended by legal consequences, as witness this re cord in Hampshire County Probate Court: "Court at Springfield Sept. 24 1661 Samuel Terry & his wife beinge presented that they beinge marryed on the 3d of January last they had a Son born the 18th of the 5th month beinge about 12 wee kes short of the ordinary tyme of womans goinge with child : This Court conclud ed it manifest that they did abuse one another before marriage : & therefore di d adjudge Samuel Terry for his offence & misdeameanor eyther to pay as a fyne t o the County the summe of 4sh to be paid wth 20 days or that he & his wife shou ld be whipt on their naked bodyes wth 10 lashes appece : Sam : Terry chusing th e punishment by fyne, his choyce was accepted." It will be noted that the co urt had appparently abandoned the Julian calendar and was using the Gregorian c alendar in its minutes. *John Pynchon was the son of William, the Springfield planter, and he served as a magistrate of Springfie ld from 1652 until his death fifty years later. More About ANNA LOBDELL: Record Change: October 09, 2003 26 Child of SAMUEL TERRY and ANNA LOBDELL is: 4. i. CAPT. SAMUEL 4 TERRY, JR., b. May 18, 1661, Springfield, Massachusetts Bay Colony; d. 1730/31, Enfield, Massachusetts Province. Generation No. 4 4. CAPT. SAMUEL 4 TERRY, JR. (SAMUEL 3, STEPHEN 2, JOHN 1 ) 27,28,29,30 was born May 18, 1661 in Springfield, Massachusetts Bay Colony 31,32,33, and died January 02, 1730/31 in Enfield, Massachusetts Province 34,35. He married (1) HANNAH MORGAN 36,37 May 17, 1682 in Enfield (Freshwater Plantation), Massachusetts Bay Colony 38. She was born February 11, 1655/56 in Springfield, Massachusetts Bay Colony 39,40,41, and died January 17, 1696/97 in Enfield, Massachusetts Colony (later Connecticut Colony) 42,43. He married (2) MARTHA (NEE BOARDMAN) CRANE 44,45 January 04, 1697/98 in Enfield, Massachusetts Colony 46. She was born 1666 in Wethersfield, Connecticut Colony 46,47, and died May 29, 1743 in Enfield, Massachusetts Bay Province 48,49. Notes for CAPT. SAMUEL TERRY, JR.: Samuel Terry, Jr., (referred to as "Capt. Samuel Terry" on his grave marker in Enfield Cemetery) was among the group of first settlers in Enfield. Enfield' s planters arrived in 1680 from Salem and from Springfield when this area was s till within the territory of the settlement of Springfield, Massachusetts. In 1683, when the population had reached a number large enough for Freshwater Plan tation (as it was then called, after Freshwater Brook) to be a town in its own right, the thirty-or-so families of the area successfully petitioned the Genera l Court of Massachusetts for the incorporation of the plantation with Town priv ileges by the name of Enfield (an English place name meaning cleared land). Al though a 1695 survey put this area south of Springfield within the territory of Connecticut Colony, it was not until 1750 that the surveyed boundary was recog nized by the legislatures of the two colonies, and it was only then that Enfiel d and its environs became part of Connecticut. Samuel Terry, Jr., married Hann ah Morgan, the first of his two wives, on May 17, 1682, in Freshwater Plantatio n. She was the daughter of Isaac Morgan who was celebrated locally for his bra ve actions in the defence of Springfield in King Philip's War. Samuel and Hann ah had six children, the last of which was only nine months old when its mother died in 1697. Samuel's second wife was Martha Boardman Crane of Wethersfiel d, widow of Benjamin Crane, Jr., who had drowned in 1693. Samuel had six more children by Martha: Benjamin, b. 1698, m. Hannah Pease; EPHRAIM (see #180); J ACOB (see #84); Martha, who died as a baby; Jonathan, who married Sarah Pease, who was a sister to his brother Benjamin's wife, Hannah; and Isaac, who married Margaret Downing. Samuel Terry, Jr., was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives from Enfield from 1708-1710; 1713; 1717-1720; and 1724. He was a town selectman in 1687 and a captain in the militia.[2836643.ftw] Samuel Terry, Jr., (referred to as "Capt.
