Notes for SAMUEL TERRY: Samuel Terry came over from England to the Massachusetts in 1650 in company wit h William Pynchon, and the two were among the planters of Springfield. It is r ecorded that in 1654 Samuel Terry was granted ten acres of land on Chicopee Pla in. He married Ann Lobdell of Springfield in 1660; they had ten children, one of which was stillborn and two of which died young. The eldest, SAMUEL TERRY, JR. (see #168) was a founder of the town of Enfield, eleven miles downriver fro m Springfield, at that time (1683) still within the bounds of the Massachusetts Bay Colony but later to become (in 1750) part of Connecticut Colony. Record s from the town of Springfield show the marriage of "Samll Terry widdower & Wid dow Sarah Scot" on Nov. 19, 1690. Sarah died in 1705, presumably in Enfield to where it is presumed she and Samuel removed in or shortly after 1700.[2836643.FTW] Samuel Terry came over from England to the Massachusetts in 1650 in company wit h William Pynchon, and the two were among the planters of Springfield. Sarah died in 1705, perhaps in Enfield with her husband, per haps not. Samuel lived into his early nineties. It is presumed Ann went with her sister and brother-in-law to Springfield Plan tation because it is there that she married Samuel Terry in 1661. Ann Lobdel l's marriage to Samuel Terry is recorded in John Pynchon's book* of births, mar riages, and deaths in Hampshire County (Hampshire was the original name of the county in which Springfield was situate). The date of the marriage is written "3d 11th mon: 1660."
