A Message from... Nathan McKie, Community Lay Director "Go make disciples..." Matthew 28:19 Most of you are, no doubt, very familiar with the Scripture cited as the title of my message. Discipleship is the title of one of the talks on the weekend, and we tend to agree that it is important. However, I was struck at a board meeting last year as I read the by-laws of Missouri East Walk to Emmaus. Under the article entitled "PURPOSE AND AFFILIATION", the purpose is stated to be to "work to inspire, challenge, and equip church members for Christian action in their homes, churches, places of work, and the world at large." It goes on say that this is primarily achieved through the "Walk to Emmaus experience" which we generally know as the "weekend". Since I joined the board in 2012, I have witnessed the dedication of those who serve God and the community by being very involved in conducting the "weekend". I want to make sure that I honor that service. After the statements I cited above, the Bylaws go on to say that "the Community may sponsor or use other methods and programs...". A couple of ways that we do that is through "Reunion groups" and "Gatherings". Paul writes in 1 Thes. 5:11 to "encourage one another." Both of these are wonderful opportunities to do just that. Additionally, this encouragement should also lead us to disciple-making. At the weekend we hear more about action than anything else. Let's don't forget that making disciples is how we get more "workers". The object should be multiplication, not just addition. We have started having a Saturday session during the walks that is between the two activities that involve the community. The focus is to renew and encourage each other. It is directed toward disciple-making. Come join us, bring a sack lunch, and enjoy the fellowship and encouragement. The dates and locations for the walks are included in this newsletter. Email me at navigator.1@juno.com if you have questions or comments. Hope to see you there. De Colores, Nathan Missouri East Walk to Emmaus/Chrysalis/Kairos Newsletter, March 2015 3
A Message from... Cindy Patterson, Team Selection Committee We are working hard on updating our database of Emmaus team service, but we can t get very far without your help! One of the keys to having a great weekend team and an active, supportive community is making sure everyone is involved who wants to be, We all remember the overwhelming feeling of love and support that surrounded us during our pilgrim walks, and the best way to nurture that feeling is to do it again and again and again. Help us help you do that! No matter how many times you have filled out a service sheet before, please, pretty please, fill one out again. We promise to do a better job of keeping up with you, and whatever service to the Emmaus community you can give is a huge part of being an active, vibrant part of the Body of Christ. One of the new sheets accompanies this newsletter. Fill it in and get it back to me by either mail or email. Addresses are on the bottom of the sheet. This new sheet hasn t made it to our broken website so if you need another copy, just email me at cindy@qulin.net A Message from... Missouri East Walk to Emmaus Board of Directors Website Woes We have had all kinds of problems with our current website, moeastemmaus.org. There are a lot of technical issues with the software we are using which limits the web browsers and versions that can successfully view the site. We apologize for these inconveniences, and we are working hard at establishing a joint website with the Missouri East Chrysalis community, but it is going to take a little longer to get things ironed out. Thanks for your patience and we guarantee you that it will be worth the wait! Missouri East Walk to Emmaus/Chrysalis/Kairos Newsletter, March 2015 4
