T o Sharing Life e t h e r Salisbury District June 13, 2018 Volume 7 Issue 11 Greetings in the Name of Christ; To the Clergy, Laity, and Friends of the Salisbury District As I pondered what I would want to say in my last newsletter article to you as your District Superintendent, it occurred to me that I really hadn t written all that many newsletter pieces. Frankly, I ve never been a big newsletter contributor and have only written to you at special times of the year, like Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Then I got thinking about my five years here on the Salisbury District and how much it was like a long running TV show. The show that came to mind was M.A.S.H. You remember, that weekly comedy back in the 70s about the mobile army surgical hospital unit during the Korean War. It ran eleven years, from 1972 till 1983. I have to confess I wasn t a big M.A.S.H. fan at first and only watched a few episodes here and there, but millions of people followed every episode faithfully. Some, like myself, fell away from watching, having grown tired of the show after two, five or seven seasons. However, when final episode of M.A.S.H. was aired on February 28, 1983, a lot of the fans, current and former, including myself, tuned in to watch that final episode - 125 million people! Thank-You to Our Salisbury District Retirees Please thank and congratulate our pastors on the Salisbury District who are retiring this year. Pictured above are (l-r front) Rev. Joanne Maxwell-Jenkins and Rev. Joanne Hartman, (back row) DS Rev. Fred Duncan, Rev. George and Mrs. Vera Patterson, Rev. John Stark, Rev. Paul Holland, Mrs. Willie Mae and Rev. Tim Duffield, and Rev. Tina and Mr. Kenny Whaley. Our Best Wishes Wherever Your Journey Takes You!! In The... Transforming Lives Through Jesus Christ To be stewards of God s creation, in service to all mankind, in building an improved ministry for God s Kingdom. Mission Statement Metropolitan UMC 30522 Dr. Wm P. Hytche Blvd Princess Anne, MD Rev. Jamar Jackson

Continued from Page1 Well, we ve come to the final episode of our time together as your DS, effective July 1. It s a date that I m sure some of you will be sad, and others will be glad. Yes, I ve made some mistakes, for which I ask for your forgiveness. I also think that we ve done a lot of good together on this District, like improve our Lay Academy attendance and participation, create a District Board of Trustees to manage abandoned and closed churches, had successful training workshops and seminars, lively District Conferences, and the formation of a racism task force. I don t really think of my term as your DS as a TV show, but, if it were, I would hope you will think it had a successful and helpful run. I must tell you that I have mixed feelings about leaving the Superintendency. I ve enjoyed it, for the most part. Yes, it s had its share of challenges, but the joys outweigh the difficulties by far. Nevertheless, we come to the end of my term (albeit a year earlier than expected). As we think about the past and look forward to the future, let s remember that God is most fully present in the eternal now! God touches our lives right now. There are needs in our district communities and around the world that can only be taken care of, in the name of Jesus, right NOW. Praise God. Right NOW! As you look forward to meeting your new DS, Rev. Dr. Rob Townsend, I encourage you to extend to him the same courtesy and kindness you extended to me 5 years ago. Celebrate the gifts and strengths he brings to the District office. Rev. Rob is an anointed leader in every respect and a person after God s own heart. He will lead you well! One of my favorite hymns is This is a Day of New Beginnings (#383 UMH). The fourth verse goes: Christ is alive and goes before us / to show and share what love can do / This is a day of new beginnings / our God is making all things news. Celebrate this new beginning. God s love still grows for each and every one of you. The light still shines. Shalom. Peace. Adios. Rev. Fred Duncan If you have had a special event at your church, send a couple of pictures to the Salisbury District Office. We would love to share your events in the District Newsletter. I was sure by now God You would have reached down And wiped our tears away, stepped in and saved the day But once again, I say, Amen and it's still raining As the thunder rolls I barely hear You whisper through the rain, "I'm with you" And every tear I've cried You hold in Your hand You never left my side and though my heart is torn I will praise You in this storm Praise You in This Storm Casting Crowns CCLI 296167 One of Life s Little Lessons...
