Regina Mundi Council #4052 Assumption B.V.M. Parish - Feasterville, PA 19053 OCTOBER 2017 ============================================================================================================= FROM THE DESK OF THE GRAND KNIGHT : My Brother Knights, Following up on my letter from last month and the charge given to us by our Chaplin, Father Mike, to Be Catholic I would like to thank you for living up to this call. This year we had 10 Brothers come out on a Saturday morning to participate in the Parish visitation. What a great way for our parishioners to see the love our Council Brothers have for Christ. The other outstanding outpouring of Christian values recently was the support many of you were able to provide for a Brother in need. Thank you again Brothers for what you do for God and your fellow man. I am so proud to call you Brothers! Welcome to our newest Brothers who completed their First Degree Exemplification on September 21. Brother Brandon Schmidt Brother Kevin Flood Brother Mike McMonagle Brother Robert Trommer Brother Nathan Witner Thank you to everyone who helped or supported our pancake breakfast on October 7. A special thank you to Brother Rick Saldutti for being the Chairman for this always fun and charitable event. Also thank you to our Worthy Recorder, Chris Dern, for handling the ticket sales and running the dinning hall. Thank you Brothers! Please continue to keep our Brother Knights and their families in your prayers. Also please pray for the souls of those victims of the Las Vegas shooting, their families, and friends. Vivat Jesus! Fraternally Yours in Christ, Brother Michael Page 1

CHAPLAIN S MESSAGE : In the year 1964, Pope Paul VI wrote of the family on the Feast of the Holy Family, and keenly recognized the beauty of the family and the challenges of family life. While much has changed in the years since 1964, is family life not beautiful and challenging? Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney, founder of the Knights of Columbus, was known as Apostle to the Young and Protector of Christian Family Life, and can be a powerful intercessor for all families. Issues common to families in the late 19 th century, like unemployment or under-employment, substance abuse, family divisions, and abandonment of the Catholic faith, are truly issues in our time. I have recently read of some who have prayed to Father McGivney for help in these areas with positive results. A grateful woman attested that her husband had persevered in prayer to Father McGivney that he find a new job, and he did! Of the many who pray to Father McGivney for help with alcohol or substance abuse, a relieved mother rejoiced that her son had entered a rehabilitation program after she had prayed to Father McGivney. A mother whose adult sons were on bad terms prayed for one week to Father McGivney, and knew in her heart that his intercession helped their relationship to be good again. Some Catholics have called on Father McGivney for his help for their fallen-away children. One person had prayed for 14 days that a family member would return to the Catholic faith, and after a 30 year period of being away, he has returned to the faith. Our belief in the communion of saints may be confusing at times, especially when it comes to intercession. Undoubtedly, God is the recipient of all prayers, including those of the saints, like St. Joseph, or of one who is venerable and on the way to canonization, like Father McGivney, or of one whom we believe is now in heaven, like a dear loved one, and our prayers. The belief in the communion of saints does not suggest that the saints replace God, Who answers all prayers; they and we ask God to help us and others in intercessory prayer. In the examples of individuals who had asked for Father McGivney to pray for their intentions, God answered in ways that were of great benefit to the under-employed man; the son suffering from addiction; the fallen-away family member and the two adult brothers. While family life is indeed beautiful, so it is challenging. When the challenges are overwhelming or at least too much to handle on your own, could prayers to Father Michael J. McGivney be of benefit to you? Vivat Jesus! Father Mike Davis Page 2

Missing Knights Dear Brother Knights, My name is George Benson, Jr. I am a fellow knight and the Community Director for our Regina Mundi Council 4052. I am writing to let you know of all the exciting endeavors our council has been involved with. We have had numerous work details around our Assumption BVM parish to help and improve the church and its grounds. We have been volunteering in several activities with the Special Olympics. We clean Bristol Road twice a year of all trash. We support our Brothers as they journey through the exemplifications toward full knighthood. We have a council picnic once a year for brothers and their families. Our council meetings have become so well attended that we are running out of chairs for everyone. Our council has grown with brothers who have been participating in every aspect of the council. For as much participation and activity that our council has experienced, we would love to have more brothers join us in our journey to serve all that need it. It would be my pleasure to talk with you to see if there is anything I can do to help you become more active in your council. HONOR GUARD Brother Knights, Recently I attended a viewing for a Brother Knight for which the Honor Guard was requested. Unfortunately, the only Knights to show up were our Faithful Navigator, Michael Arment and one other Knight from the deceased s council. Four other Knights from the council had promised to be there but, they didn t show up. To prevent such things happening in the future, we would like to create a core group of Brother Knights from which to draw for Honor Guard duty. This would be similar to the way that Color Corps works. The deceased s council would still have primary responsibility to provide coverage but this group would ensure that we show proper respect to the deceased Knight and his family. It would also prevent embarrassment to the Assembly. Anyone interested should provide his phone number and/or e-mail address to the following: Brother Bob Conrad 215-801-8320 / rac1375@msn.com Brother George Dolyncky 215-806-7654 / dolny#comcast.net Brother Jack Eagan 215-969-1788 / irishrover13@comcast.net C Vivat Jesus!
