Many: Many duties and tasks seek to lay claim on our lives. One: This day, in this place, let service to God be our choice. Many: This day, in this place, we open our hearts and spirits to God. One: Blessed be the God of creation who has called us here. Many: Praise be to God who sustains and nurtures our lives. One: Let us worship God! Becki Whitaker +Song of Praise God is Here! (vs. 1, 2, 4) Chalice Hymnal #280 God is here! As we your people meet to offer praise and prayer, may we find in fuller measure what it is in Christ we share. Here, as in the world around us, all our varied skills and arts wait the coming of the Spirit into open minds and hearts. Here are symbols to remind us of our lifelong need of grace; here are table, fount, and pulpit; here the cross has central place. Here in honesty of preaching, here in silence, as in speech, here, in newness and renewal, God the Spirit comes to each. Lord of all, of church and kingdom, in an age of change and doubt, keep us faithful to the Gospel; help us work your purpose out. Here, in this day's dedication, all we have to give, receive; we, who cannot live without you, we adore you! We believe! +Invocation +The Lord s Prayer (please play the version on your heart) Our Creator, who is in heaven, holy is your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Prayers of the People Children s Moment Deb Murphy Anthem Show Me Thy Ways Walter L. Pelz Scripture Becki Whitaker Joshua 24:1-15 Then Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and summoned the elders, the heads, the judges, and the officers of Israel; and they presented themselves before God. And Joshua said to all the people, Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Long ago your ancestors Terah and his sons Abraham and Nahor lived beyond the Euphrates and served other gods. Then I took your father Abraham from beyond the River and led him through all the land of Canaan and made his offspring many. I gave him Isaac; and to Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau. I gave Esau the hill country of Seir to possess, but Jacob and his children went down to Egypt. Then I sent Moses and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt with what I did in its midst; and afterwards I brought you out. When I brought your ancestors out of Egypt, you came to the sea; and the Egyptians pursued your ancestors with chariots and horsemen to the Red Sea. When they cried out to the Lord, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and made the sea come upon them and cover them; and your eyes saw what I did to Egypt. Afterwards you lived in the wilderness a long time. Then I brought you to the land of the Amorites, who lived on the other side of the Jordan; they fought with you, and I handed them over to you, and you took possession of their land, and I destroyed them before you. Then King Balak son of Zippor of Moab, set out to fight against Israel. He sent and invited Balaam son of Beor to curse you, but I would not listen to Balaam; therefore he blessed you; so I rescued you out of his hand. When you

went over the Jordan and came to Jericho, the citizens of Jericho fought against you, and also the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I handed them over to you. I sent the hornet ahead of you, which drove out before you the two kings of the Amorites; it was not by your sword or by your bow. I gave you a land on which you had not labored, and towns that you had not built, and you live in them; you eat the fruit of vineyards and olive yards that you did not plant. Now therefore revere the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness; put away the gods that your ancestors served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. Now if you are unwilling to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served in the region beyond the River or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord. Sermon Because God is Our God Laurie Feille Responding to the Word +Song of Invitation Lord, Whose Love Through Humble Service CH #461 Lord, whose love through humble service bore the weight of human need, Who upon the cross, forsaken, offered mercy s perfect deed: We, your servants, bring the worship not of voice alone, but heart, Consecrating to your purpose every gift that you impart. Still your children wander homeless; still the hungry cry for bread; Still the captives long for freedom; still in grief we mourn our dead. As, O Lord, your deep compassion healed the sick and freed the soul, Use the love your Spirit kindles still to save and make us whole. As we worship, grant us vision, till your love s revealing light In its height and depth and greatness dawns upon our quickened sight, Making known the needs and burdens your compassion bids us bear, Stirring us to tireless striving your abundant life to share. Called by worship to your service, forth in your dear name we go To the child, the youth, the aged, love in living deeds to show; Hope and health, good will and comfort, counsel, aid, and peace we give, That your servants, Lord, in freedom may your mercy know, and live.
