Congregation: All the time! WL: And all the time, C: God is good! WL: This week we begin our journey as we Stay the Course of following Jesus, and going where he asks us to go. Today we have come aboard because we begin our journey through worship. Let s face it, sisters and brothers, we start here because it s the easiest thing to do: spend an hour with God on a Sunday morning. But is that all there is to worship? Is that worshipping God in spirit and truth or is God asking more from us? Come aboard, and let s set sail by worshipping God together. SMASH NEXT WEEK Next week in SMASH students will meet at the Paxtonville Park for another baptism service for some of our youth who will be practicing obedience to God s command. Everyone is invited to join us. The service will begin at 9am. CHILDREN AND YOUTH MINISTRY NEWS One of the goals of the children and youth ministry is to have a presence in the community. We cannot think of a better place to be than in the schools. Over the course of the summer we have been meeting with the principals within the district. Our question to each of them was how can we help? We continue to work on a plan for each of the schools but for now we have a student recognition program in motion for the middle and high schools. We plan on recognizing two students from each grade, each marking period. The students will be picked by the teachers. The plan is to recognize students who aren t necessarily A or even B students but students who work hard. They might do extra credit or ask for extra help but they are always invested in doing their best. Another qualification would be that they are students with integrity. The students will be provided with a special lunch and will be presented a certificate and gift card to an area restaurant. We continue to work with the principals to have a presence and have a positive impact on our community. We will keep everyone updated and will certainly be looking for people to assist with some of the school programs that we will be leading or assisting. SNYDER CTY. EMA ACTIVE SHOOTER TRAINING The Snyder County Emergency Management Administration will be presenting an Active Shooter Response training designed for Houses of Worship by the DHS. It is being offered two times in two different locations both on Monday, September 10: at the MACC from 10 until 1; and at the CAA on 713 Bridge St, Selinsgrove from 5 until 8. If you would like to attend either presentation, you must RSVP to Trish Treaster at tscholl@snydercounty.org or by calling 570-452-7013 no later than September 7 by 4:00 p.m.

*HYMN #64 Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty MISSIONS TEAM Dietrich Bonhoeffer called Jesus "a man for others" meaning he thought more of others than of himself, and as disciples of Jesus we are called to be men and women for others; some of the ways we do that are through missions and outreach. We will be having a Missions Team organization meeting on Monday, September 10th beginning at 6:00 p.m. where we will look at what/how we have done M&O in the past, and what/how we will do in the future. We will also be looking for someone to lead this team into the future. If you want to be involved in missions in any way and want to be a part of this conversation, you are encouraged to come out on the 10th. CALLING ALL SINGERS! Although choir rehearsals began again this last week, it s never too late to join us. There are no requirements, just that you love to sing and are open to trying new things. We will be keeping the same structure as least season; sharing our music during worship the second Sunday of each month, and rehearsing the two weeks prior. This makes it an easier commitment, and gives you more time to plan other things on your calendar. If you've always wanted to join, but were hesitant, come check us out. We have a great time together. And if you're already a member, perhaps you've heard a good voice from your pew. This is a fantastic opportunity to invite someone from outside our walls that perhaps doesn't have a church home. Thanks, and see you soon! *PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Unison) UMH#12 SILENT MEDITATION WORDS OF ASSURANCE WL: Hear the good news: Christ died for us while we were yet sinners; that proves God s love toward us. In the name of Jesus the Christ, you are forgiven. C: In the name of Jesus the Christ, you are forgiven. ALL: Glory to God! Amen. *SHARING GOD S LOVE CHILDREN S MESSAGE UNDERSTAND GOD S LOVE (Please join in singing the first verse of O How I Love Jesus as the children come forward.) PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION HEBREW BIBLE LESSON 1 Chronicles 16:23-31 GOSPEL LESSON John 4:19-21 & 23-24 SERMON All Aboard Rev. Brian Lucas, Pastor PASTORAL PRAYER THE LORD S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING SERMON TEXT PRACTICE GOD S LOVE *HYMN OF PARTING #77 *PARTING BLESSING How Great Thou Art FLOOD RESPONSE As you have seen on TV and the internet, some of the areas in our district have been hit quite hard with flooding, and you might be wondering how you can help; there are three ways for you to do that: 1. Be in prayer for the churches and communities that have been damaged; 2. Consider volunteering your time and labors with a work team when those are formed; and 3. If you are feeling lead to financially support the response, mark "Advance #8055" on the memo line of a check or on the outside of an envelope. *TAKING THE LIGHT OF CHRIST INTO THE WORLD *POSTLUDE Portions of today s liturgy come from The Abingdon Worship Annual 2017 edition copyright 2016 by Abingdon Press. Used by permission. Next week we will continue our series Stay the Course with our theme, Bon Voyage based on Luke 14:25-33. What will Pastor Brian talk about? SERMON "TEXT If you have a question about today's sermon, Scripture, theme or series, PB wants to help. In fact, he asks that you text your question to 570-351-1619 before the end of today's worship service so he can answer it before we leave. Based on the number of questions (and the length of the answers) he will answer up to three questions each week. If the answer requires too much time or is of a more personal nature, he will do his best to answer you at a different time.

1 Chronicles 16:23-31 (CEB) Sing to the Lord, all the earth! Share the news of his saving work every single day! Declare God s glory among the nations; declare his wondrous works among all people because the Lord is great and so worthy of praise. He is awesome beyond all other gods because all the gods of the nations are just idols, but it is the Lord who created heaven! Greatness and grandeur are in front of him; strength and joy are in his place. Give to the Lord, all families of the nations give to the Lord glory and power! Give to the Lord the glory due his name! Bring gifts! Enter his presence! Bow down to the Lord in his holy splendor! Tremble before him, all the earth! Yes, he set the world firmly in place; it won t be shaken. Let heaven celebrate! Let the earth rejoice! Let the nations say, The Lord rules! John 4:19-21, & 23-24 (CEB) The woman said, Sir, I see that you are a prophet. Our ancestors worshipped on this mountain, but you and your people say that it is necessary to worship in Jerusalem. Jesus said to her, Believe me, woman, the time is coming when you and your people will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. But the time is coming and is here! when true worshippers will worship in spirit and truth. The Father looks for those who worship him this way. God is spirit, and it is necessary to worship God in spirit and truth.

September 9th SMASH will be practicing the greatest commandment love thy neighbor by preparing something in the kitchen to share with neighbors and congregants. Student will also be learning about how food is its own ministry. September 16th The kids will be in the classroom doing an activity to really dig in deeper into the meaning of each of The 10 Commandmants. September 23 There will be no SMASH next week. We will be having Family Huddles. Everyone is welcome. Your family can consist of whomever you like and we will have a group for you to join if you come alone.
