As children grow, their interests change and develop, and they meet many new people along the way. But as children make new friends, mutual respect should be the guiding principle of these relationships. Parents, talk to your children about how they should feel in a friendship. True friends care about each other and respect each other s thoughts and feelings and personal boundaries. If your child isn t receiving respect from his / her friends, s/he is learning to accept less than s/he deserves in a relationship. And if s/he is the one who doesn t give respect to her friends, s/he is learning emotional power. For more information on teaching your children about true friendships, email jvienna@la-archdiocese.org.

The school does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, disability, medical condition, sex, or national and/or ethnic origin in the administration of educational policies and practices, scholarship programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs, although certain athletic leagues and other programs may limit participation and some archdiocesan schools operate as single-sex schools. While the school does not discriminate against students with special needs, a full range of services may not always be available to them. Decisions concerning the admission and continued enrollment of a student in the school are based upon the student's emotional, academic, and physical abilities and the resources available to the school in meeting the student's needs. This Catholic Elementary School publishes the above policy in the staff and parent/student handbooks, public relations/recruitment brochures and in other publications such as the parish bulletin and school newspaper. The school also publishes applicable grievance procedures in the staff and parent/student handbooks.
Pope Francis invites the faithful to pray the Rosary in October! The Holy Father has decided to invite all the faithful, of all the world, to pray the Holy Rosary every day, during the entire Marian month of October, and thus to join in communion and in penitence, as the people of God, in asking the Holy Mother of God and Saint Michael Archangel to protect the Church from the devil, who always seeks to separate us from God and from each other. The prayer the Pontiff affirmed a few days ago, on 11 September, in a homily at Santa Marta, citing the first book of Job is the weapon against the Great Accuser who goes around the world seeking to accuse. Only prayer can defeat him. The Russian mystics and the great saints of all the traditions advised, in moments of spiritual turbulence, to shelter beneath the mantle of the Holy Mother of God pronouncing the invocation Sub Tuum Praesidium. Sub Tuum Praesidium We fly to thy protection, O Holy Mother of God. Do not despise our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always from all dangers, O Glorious and Blessed Virgin. Prayer to Saint Michael The Holy Father has also asked that the recitation of the Holy Rosary during the month of October conclude with the prayer written by Leo XIII: Saint Michael Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil; may God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
