Sound the Trumpet Even So, Come Lord Jesus! The Revelation Revealed A view from a sojourner A study from the heart. He that hath an ear, let Him hear what the spirit is saying to the churches 1

The Prophetic Word of God Unrest grows daily around the world. Terrorism mounts to staggering numbers Good people die and bad people live. Bad news increases, while good news is increasingly scarce. Conditions worsen daily! Not only that, man has tapped into the power of the atom. Science and technology have seemingly run amok and off the tracks of civility, producing more horrific new inventions. Now, more and more countries possess weapons of mass destruction and many of those nations are threatening to use them. This danger is compounded because mistrust and strife between nations has never been greater. Also, human decadence and immorality of every kind, famine, disease, racism and competition among ethnic rivals and crime and violence are exploding in our cities, towns, and neighborhoods. Where are these downward trends leading? Will human life survive? What does the future hold? All want to know. Many have opinions, but few recognize where to find the answers. God s last book of the Bible, Revelation, speaks of signs, seals, symbols, vials, visions, trumpets, thrones, plagues, angels, beasts, heads, horns, witnesses, woes, wars, numbers, multitudes, messages and mystery! The book of Revelation contains all of these terms. But what do they mean? Most believe that the book of Revelation is sealed, closed from understanding. It is called a mystery book without meaning. Yet it is an entire book of important vital meaning. It is filled with answers. The above terms can be unlocked! You will be intrigued even fascinated by the clarity of what can be known from the book of Revelation. Events are building to a final culmination a tremendous CLIMAX! You can know them. 1 Did you know...one-third of the Bible is prophecy the future written in advance? The Bible is approximately 750,000 words, with about 250,000 of those words devoted to many, many prophecies. I am not a prophet, priest, or king but, I am a member of the priesthood of believers. I am not a person who claims to know the future or even what tomorrow holds for you or me. 1. Revelation Explained at Last; David C. Pack, Founder and Pastor General of The Restored Church of God, Editor-in-Chief of The Real Truth magazine, and voice of The World to Come program, 2

However, I am sure of one thing, My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly lean on Jesus name. When darkness seems to veil His face, I rest on His unchanging grace; In every high and stormy gale My anchor holds within the veil. His oath His covenant and blood Support me in the whelming flood: When all around my soul gives way, He then is all my hope and stay. On Christ the solid rock I stand; All other ground is sinking sand. On Christ the solid rock I stand, All other ground is sinking sand. When the last trumpet s voice shall sound, O may I then in him be found. Clothed in his righteousness alone, Faultless to stand before his throne. 2 Yes. I know who holds tomorrow and I know Who holds my hand! Revelation Session 1 Get ready! Get Set! Go! Let s study and get to know the truth found in Revelation. The Solid Rock; Edward Mote, 1834, Hymn; In the Public Domain 3

The study of the book of Revelation will warm your heart as you perceive the true Christ and His ministry to the churches for the past two thousand years. Tim LaHaye Here are some basic truths we need to understand before we begin an exhaustive look at the final book of the Good Book (God s revelation to man). 1. The book of Revelation makes it clear that Christ and Christians are the ultimate winners in the game of life. 2. A study of Revelation is essential for a comprehensive view of the rest of Scripture. 3. This last book of the Word of God finalizes God s wonderful purposes for his favorite creatures in which He created mankind. 4. The proper understanding of Revelation motivates Christians to consistent dedication and service. 5. The study of Revelation will give the student of God s Word a vital love for Jesus Christ and the souls of lost men about you for it not only reveals the Lord and His wonderful plan to redeem His Church but also discloses the awful plight of this world and of those who reject Him. 6. No book in the Bible has been more discredited than Revelation except for its counterpart in the Old Testament, the book of Daniel. 7. Because Revelation deals predominately with prophecy and the future, and because it exposes Satan as a deceptive fraud, the archenemy of man has tried his hardest to discredit the book. The last thing Satan wants is for people to become aware of Christ s majesty, Satan s treachery, and the Christian s final triumph when this old world system ultimately fails. Tim LaHaye The study of Revelation should stir the heart of every reader and inspire him to greater service and preparation for the rapidly approaching day when we will see Him who said, BEHOLD, I COME SUDDENLY! 4

A special blessing is promised to those who read this book (Rev. 1:3) In fact, there are 7 Blessings found for the Christian in Revelation. 7 Beatitudes in Revelation (Blessed are..) Blessed. 1. Are those who read, hears and keeps (obeys) ; Rev. 1:3 2. Are the dead who die in the Lord ; Rev. 14:13 3. Is he who is awake, keeping his garments, Rev. 16:15 (Who watches and is ready!) 4. Are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb ; Rev. 19:9 (Invited guests of God) 5. Is he who shares in the 1 st Resurrection ; Rev. 20:6 (Is the man who death cannot touch) 6. Is he who keeps the Words of the prophecy of this book ; Rev. 22:7 (Is the wise reader of God s Word) 7. Are those who do His commandments ; Rev. 22:14 (Are those who hears and obeys) Every Christian has the opportunity of the seven (7) blessings of God! It is open to you and me. It is a decision all of us have to make! Key Verse of Revelation: Revelation 1:19, Write, therefore, what you have seen, what is now and what will take place later. 5

Attitudes about the Book of Revelation Two (2) Extremes: (1) Book cannot be understood, and therefore should not be studied, taught or preached. (2)Those that are so sure of every detail of the book that they set dates and propose highly fanciful interpretations. To them, Revelation seems to be the only book in the Bible worth studying. Proper Attitude----- Important and profitable as is all scripture (II Timothy 3:16) Worthy of all the Spirit directed study we can give Focusing every God given ability on its words Not theoretical but personal and involved Knowledge of this book should effect our living in the present. Where we can declare as John declared Even so, Come Lord Jesus, Come. This book completes the circle of Bible truths. As the Word of God, the Scriptures predictably reveal superb planning and organization. Revelation completes the great truths begun in Genesis and in other passages of the Bible. 6

Why is Revelation considered scripture? Why at the end of the Bible? The Bible is all one Story------------ The last part in the last book reads like the close of the story in the first part of the first book. First Words in Genesis Almost the Last Word in Revelation In the Beginning God created I saw a new Heaven and a new earth. the Heavens and the Earth. Genesis 1:1 (Revelation 21:1) The gathering together of waters He called the Sea. Genesis 1:10 And the sea is no more. Revelation21:1 The Darkness He called Night. There shall be no night there Genesis 1:5 Rev. 21:25 God made the two great Lights The city has no need of the Sun nor the Moon. (Sun and Moon) Genesis 1:16 Rev. 21:23 In the Day you Eat thereof Death shall be no more. you shall surely die. Genesis 2:1 Revelation 21:4 (First recorded death, Genesis 4:8) Genesis shows the beginning of the curse Revelation shows the curse lifted (Rev. 22:3) (3:15-18) Genesis shows how man lost his chance Revelation shows man will eat of that tree (22:3) To eat of the tree of life (3:22-24) Genesis introduces the devil for the first Revelation shows the final doom of Satan (20:10) Time as the tempter of men (3:1-18) Genesis reveals the tragic sorrow that Revelation promises, God shall wipe away all Results from sin (chapters 3 and 4) tears from their eyes. (Revelation 21:4) 7

The Book of Revelation Various Schools of Interpretation Preterist Latin meaning past. Revelation has already been fulfilled in the early history of the church. They feel that the entire book was fulfilled by the time of Constantine, A.D. 312 Continuous Historical Panoramic view of the history of the Church---from the days of John to the end of the age. Note: They believe the book is being fulfilled throughout the whole Christian era. Idealist/Pictorial View: Pictorial unfolding of great principles in constant conflict. No actual events recorded. It merely portrays the age long struggle between good and evil. They believe most of the book is allegory. (Allegory: a story, poem, or picture that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, typically a moral or political one). Futurist or Plain Interpretation: From chapter 4 on as yet to be fulfilled (In the future). Do not claim to be able to explain every detail with certainty. No judgments in history have ever equaled those described in chapters 6, 8, 9, and 16. The resurrections and judgments described in chapter 20 have not yet occurred. They understand that the symbols in the book have certain meanings. Such as: Lion (power); Colors: white (pure); black (evil); red (power and strength) But, know that everything in the book was true, is true and definite------and the truth will be revealed by God himself. 8
