University Presbyterian Church Order of Worship August 12, 2018 5pm 12th Sunday after Pentecost <<WE GATHER>> Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee music: Ludwig Van Beethoven; words: Henry Van Dyke Joyful, joyful, we adore thee, God of glory, Lord of love; Hearts unfold like flowers before thee, opening to the sun above. Melt the clouds of sin and sadness, drive the dark of doubt away; Giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day! All thy works with joy surround thee, earth and heaven reflect thy rays, Stars and angels sing around thee, center of unbroken praise. Field and forest, vale and mountain, flowery meadow, flashing sea, Chanting bird and flowing fountain call us to rejoice in thee. Thou art giving and forgiving, ever blessing, ever blest, Wellspring of the joy of living, ocean depth of happy rest! Thou our Father, Christ our Brother all who live in love are thine; Teach us how to love each other, lift us to the joy divine. Welcome & Greeting Time The Solid Rock music: William Bradbury; words by Edward Mote My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus name. On Christ, the solid rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand All other ground is sinking sand When darkness veils his lovely face, I rest on his unchanging grace. In every high and stormy gale, my anchor holds within the veil. His oath, his covenant, his blood support me in the whelming flood. When all around my soul gives way, he then is all my hope and stay. When he shall come with trumpet sound, O may I then in him be found. Dressed in his righteousness alone, faultless to stand before the throne. No Longer Slaves Jonathan David Helser and Melissa Helser You unravel me, with a melody You surround me with a song Of deliverance, from my enemies Till all my fears are gone
I m no longer a slave to fear I am a child of God From my mother s womb You have chosen me Love has called my name I ve been born again, into your family Your blood flows through my veins Interlude Ohhh, Ohhh... You split the sea so I could walk right through it My fears are drowned in perfect love You rescued me and I will stand and sing I am a child of God Open the Eyes of My Heart Paul Baloche Open the eyes of my heart, Lord, open the eyes of my heart; I want to see you, I want to see you. To see you high and lifted up, shining in the light of your glory. Pour out your power and love; as we sing holy, holy, holy. Holy, holy, holy; holy, holy, holy; Holy, holy, holy; I want to see you. Evening Prayers Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. <<WE HEAR>> Story of Hope: Olivia Cooper Offering Moment & Prayer of Dedication Tithes & Offerings: "Sing to the King Billy Foote & Charles Silvester Horne Sing to the King Who is coming to reign Glory to Jesus the Lamb that was slain Life and salvation His empire shall bring And joy to the nations when Jesus is King

No mortal man would dare to stand before your throne, Before the Holy One of heaven. It s only by your blood, And it s only through your mercy, Lord, I come. I bring an offering of worship to my King, No one on earth deserves the praises that I sing. Jesus, may you receive the honor that you re due, O Lord, I bring an offering to you. I bring an offering to you.

They matter to God, and they matter to the world. Jesus gave his life for ours. And Jesus wants us to give our lives to the world, so that we can and will do great things. Jesus promised those who believe in him that we would do greater things than he did (John 14:12). How is that possible? Through gifts of the Spirit. It s possible because he is alive and working through communities of people empowered by the Holy Spirit. And that Spirit gives you unique abilities to serve and to point people to him as the hope of the world. The adventure begins...
