From Rabbi Brickman I want to thank my colleagues Rabbinic Intern Lisa Izes and Student Cantor Sergei Schwartz for leading worship in my absence at our annual service of tribute to-dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Here is one of a number of tributes I received complimenting Lisa and Sergei on their work that evening. Dear Rabbi Brickman, Thank you for last night's beautiful Shabbat service honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Your inteill; Lisa, presided very well and was a joyful presence to all of us. the Cantor, needless to say, inspired all of us and together with Lisa brought a beautiful sound into the Temple. Please extend my thanks to them both. Sister Georgette, St. Aloysius Church SHABBAT ACROSS AMERICA Save Friday evening, March 12 for Temple Beth-EI's second annual "Shabbat Across America" observance. Those who were present for this event last year know that it was the biggest, boldest Shabbat experience ever held in our country. On March 12, Jews will come together to eat, drink, relax, enjoy, pray and celebrate Shabbat like never before. Shabbat Across America is sponsored by the National Jewish Outreach Program, Temple Beth-El will be one of over 600 congregations to celebrate Shabbat as part of this historic event. You will. certainly want to be among the tens of thousands of Jews in America who will be celebrating Shabbat that evening, so clear your calendar, and watch your mail for details of our congregation's Shabbat dinner and special service. Temple Office to Close in Observance of Presidents' Day The Temple office will be closed on Monday, February 15 in observance of Presidents' day.

Purim is Coming!!! This year, Purim begins at sundown on Monday, March 1, however, our congregation's observance of this holiday will begin on the day before Purim, Sunday, February 28, with our Purim Family Education Program. All families with children are invited to attend this exciting learning experience, which will include delivering "Shalach Manot" to homebound elderly members of our community who receive meals on wheels. "Shalach Manot" are traditional gifts given on Purim which include among other things, hamantashen. Parents should watch their mail for more infor.mation about.thisjamily education program, or'speak to our Rabbinic 'Intern Lisa Izes. The festivities on the eve of Purim, Monday, March 1, will begin with a Purim Carnival for the children in our school, after which the entire congregation is invited to join us for the traditional reading of the "Megillah." Of course, Hamantashen will be served when the noise of the "graggers" quiets down. Watch for the next ''Temple Bulletin," in which we will fill you in on the rest of the details for our celebration of this most joyous of all Jewish holidays. Our Trip to Israel is Right around the Comer The excitement is mounting for our congregational pilgrimage to Israel, beginning on Wednesday, March 10. It is not too late to join us, so if you want to come, please speak to the Rabbi or to Sandy Frank immediately. We don't want to leave without you! Rabbi Brickman to Participate in Lincoln Memorial This year, Rabbi Brickman has been invited to deliver the invocation at the annual memorial to Abraham Lincoln held on his birthday each year at the statue of President Lincoln on the Boulevard. The service will be held on Friday, February 12 at 12 noon and is open to the public. Just dress warmly!
