In the brief time that Lisa has been with us, she has touched the lives of many members of our congregation, but nowhere more than within our Religious School, where she has enriched the lives of the students and enhanced their understanding of our Jewish tradition. Please join us on Saturday, May 15 at 10:00 a.m., as we express our gratitude to Lisa and wish her well, as she pursues her career in the rabbinate. 5 SHA' AREI TEFILAH- THROUGH THE GATES OF PRAYER Join us for a very special adult education opportunity being provided by Rabbi Brickman and Rabbinic Inter Lisa Izes. Study with us as we explore the origins of Jewish prayer, study the historic contexts of the prayers we recite and determine their meanings for our lives today. If you never opened a prayer book or if you have been dawening for years, this is the class for you! Topics to be covered include: May 5 - Why do Jews pray? How is the service arranged? Getting '~armed-up" to pray. May 12 - Why is the Sh'ma so important to Jews? How do we introduce the Shma, and what could possibly follow it? May 19 - Why is the Amidah the central part of the service? When is it acceptable to change our ancient prayers? May 26 - What is the Torah service all about? Where does the Aleynu come from? Why is the Kaddish so important to us. All classes will be held in the Temple library, beginning at 7:30 p.m.. Join us for any or all of the sessions, and bring your friends. JEWISH FAMILY SERVICE ANNUAL BRUNCH The Jewish Family and Counseling Service will hold its Annual Brunch on Sunday morning, May 23 at 10:00 a.m. at Congregation B'nai Jacob. The honorees this year will be Stanley Silver of Hoboken, Myrtle Levy of Bayonne and Sid Pepper of Jersey City. Your presence at this event will both pay tribute to these distinguished honorees, and help to support the work of the Jewish family and Counseling Service.
