My Sisters and Brothers in Christ, Wow!! Where did the summer go? Schools have started, the harvest has begun, temperatures are starting to cool down, the Packers and the Vikings have started playing football again, all signs that fall is approaching. September always brings change with it even if it is only the weather. This year some of the changes that will happen are how we do communion. Over the past few months I have noticed that for some of us it is becoming more of a challenge to climb that altar steps and kneel down at the railing. Because of this I have made a decision to bring communion down to the floor, eliminating the kneeling and the steps. We will still use the little chalices of wine but it will be one continuous line. We have also ordered some different gluten-free wafers that are individually sealed for those of you with this allergy, just ask for them as you come forward for communion. With the education year beginning there are some important dates to mark on your calendar. First is that confirmation will begin on September 12 from 4:30-5:30 pm. Adult bible study will begin Thursday morning September 13 at 9 am. Sunday school will kick off with a rally day on Sunday September 16. We will be installing teachers, handing out Bibles, and blessing backpacks. There will be some fun activities downstairs after worship that day. Another thing that will happen is that I will be passing out laminated name tags to everyone, these will have a child s name printed on it and the premise is that you will pray for this child throughout the school year. My hope is that a relationship will start as you let the child know you are praying for them and engage them in conversation throughout the year asking how they are doing and if there is a specific thing they would like you to pray about. Thank you in advance for participating in this endeavor. One small way in which we keep our baptismal promises to the children. The Andover Threshing Show happens in September, from the 7-9 this year, and we will need some help serving ice cream. The confirmation class is small this year, only 5 students, so I can t cover all shifts with them. I need 4-5 for each 3-hour shift. The volunteer sheet will be up after I meet with the confirmation parents and students. Thank you for all you do in helping to support the ministries of Bethesda/Butler. God s Peace be with you all, Pastor Chris

Join us for Bible Study Beginning September 13 th we will meet at Bethesda from 9-10am Thursday mornings. We are using The Story as a guide through the Bible, we are nearing the end of the Old Testament and will be starting the New Testament soon. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rally Day for Sunday School will be on Sunday, September 16 th. We will be blessing backpacks, installing teachers and handing out Bibles during worship at Bethesda at 9am! Sunday School will be held each Sunday from 10:15 am to 11:15 am. If you are willing to share your time and talents with the Sunday School by helping or teaching, contact the office or Becky Hubsch. -------------------------------------------------- WELCA Fall Retreat Wednesday, September 19 th at NeSoDak. Registration from 9-9:30 The family of Lorraine Anderson is hosting an Open House in honor of her 90 th birthday on September 29, 2018 from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. at the Bristol Community Center. Please join us your presence will be your gift. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ James Valley Threshing Show The James Valley Threshing Show in Andover will be Sept. 7 th, 8 th and 9 th this year and once again the Bethesda/Butler and Bergen Luther Leagues will be selling ice cream floats and sundaes. Confirmation students and parents are required to help out as the money raised goes toward offsetting costs to attend various events and gatherings. The confirmation class is small this year, only 5 students, so I can t cover all shifts with them. I need 4-5 for each 3 hour shift. The volunteer sheet will be up after I meet with the confirmation parents and students.
